EVERY KID had a Carter jersey, all of a sudden you walk down the street and every other house or apartment building has a basketball net outside instead of a hockey net and kids are just shooting balls at it. 22 years later, Canada now has the highest amount of players born outside of the US in the NBA and it is almost solely because of Vince Carter He was our Michael Jordan.

Vince Carter went to college at the University of North Carolina in the state where I was born and still live, and yes I'm Tar Heel fan. He got the nickname of "Sarge" because of Sergeant Vincent Carter in Gomer Pyle, USMC. He retired in 2020, after being the last player in the NBA coached by the legendary Dean Smith. Kobe Bryant said that if he would've gone to college, even though it was thought he would go to Duke, he said he wanted to go to North Carolina because he would get the chance to play against Vince Carter every day in practice.

  • @mrgiannopolis

That Olympic dunk is the best dunk in basketball history. Shame him and TMac couldn't have stayed in Toronto, think both of their careers would have been so much more successful in the sense of playoff success. The fact that he was able to extend his career so long (just retired this year) by making the switch from an athletic attack the rim type to a mostly shooter shows the dedication he had to the game. He also didn't just latch onto championship teams (Warriors) at the end of his career to ride coattails to a cheap ring. He wanted to still have a chance to play. I started my NBA fandom his rookie year, so to see him retire is bittersweet for me. So much respect for this guy and the game will miss him.
