The lyrics (and music) are written by Cat Stevens. They didn't even understand the song. The father sings to his son and gives him advice in a calm way. The son reacts in a heated way because he is young and frustrated. They sing the line "From the moment I could talk, I was ordered to listen" as if he is telling us that he had a cup of tea with breakfast.

I remember one of my sisters had this on cassette tape for Christmas '95. I think this was one of Boyzone's best singles, and sure there'll always be that argument from those familiar with the original that that's the best but regardless of who sings it, a good song is a good song.
