I feel like we all know how bad fast fashion is at this point. So why can’t we actually quit it?? It’s a bit more nuanced than you think, and in today’s video I’m breaking it allll the way down for you.
My hope is that by naming and understanding the subconscious things that have control over us, we can choose differently and finally break up with fast fashion.

    Important topic!
It is hard though because at least where I live I´ve noticed that second-hand stores have cranked up their prices even for shein and fast fashion pieces that rich people don´t want anymore and it is ridiculous. Somewhere low-income people have to find clothes to look representable, which used to be stores like second-hand.
Don´t get me wrong it´s so good that Second Hand has become more popular but we still have to battle the overconsumer mindset and start thinking more about clothes that last and bring back the culture of sewing skills, repair stuff and learn how to make things last.

Yes!! Super important in breaking our old consumption patterns and thinking “that’s just the way it is” and why I say we need to do better. I’m also glad to see the rise of secondhand, but again, that doesn’t mean consuming more just because it’s cheaper than buying new. We absolutely need to love what we already have and take care of it so it lasts a long time and we don’t need to constantly replace our wardrobe!!

Good video! I've been buying my clothes secondhand in my attempt to curb my carbon footprint. Some positive side effects I didn't expect is that my clothes are better quality, due to being from a time when clothes were made to last, and I've developed a style unique to me. Just a tip: try holding the microphone a little farther away from your mouth.

Such a good point that clothes were meant to last back then!! Aaaahh as soon as I went to edit I realized I was basically screaming into the mic🙈🙈🙈 Definitely adjusting for the next time around🩷

What are your tips for finding higher quality items? I’m not interested in designer, just good quality. I already have limited my purchasing of new clothing significantly, and a lot of my clothing I do have is thrifted, but I find that I have a lot of low quality clothing that is wearing out. I try to make it last as long as possible (I have have one shirt I’ve been wearing for a decade haha and I’m only 22) but half my wardrobe is worn out, and my sweater I bought only three months ago is worse for wear than the shirt I’ve had for a decade.

I’d do as best you can to avoid clothes made from oil byproducts. Those tend to have cheaper construction and less emphasis on quality. What’s helped me is shopping in person and actually feeling the clothes. Once I get a gauge for the materials/thickness/stitching/cuts that I like, then I can look for clothes with similar qualities online if I ever need to online shop. It might be worth trying to repair your worn clothes! Lastly, I try not to wash my clothes after every wear (unless it’s obviously dirty/soiled) and that’s also extended the lifespan of my wardrobe. Hope this helps🩷

@@EarthOrNothing oh yeah, I almost only search in person bc I have texture sensitivities

@@EarthOrNothing also, there are people who wash their clothes after every single wear?! That’s crazy. That’s so much work and waste haha
