  • Guide for replacing Garret turbo on a 2006 Volkswagen Caravelle/ Transporter. Be sure to check whether you have a Borg Warner or a Garret, as the mounts are different. I asked Volkswagen for adrawing which I will post later. Plz excuse my rotten pronounciation; I'm Norwegian

Hello Bjørn, Thanks for this great movie.
I am going to do this job. Did you have a Diesel particle filter? If so... Did you have to remove it? (I read it is not easy to remove it on 4motion)

Hi. Can't recall removing particle filter, no. I just removed the front part of the exhaust. It goes on the turbo - it's held onto the turbo with a v-shaped metal clasp which you tighten by turning a screw on the clasp itself (it kind of holds the two flanged edges together). It was a bit of a pain to put together again on my own; you would do well to have someone hold it for you.

Hi Mike :) That depends whether or not you have the Garret turbo. There are two kinds on these cars and the top and bottom mounting differs. In any case you will need the m10 and m12 multi-spline bits for your socket wrench

What do you mean by triple-square? Nevermind, I see now that you mean the 12 spline. Cost me about $35 for a set. The 4 top bolts which go onto the mainfold are the m10´s. The 3 bottom ones which go onto the engine block are the m12´s

You may need to use some CRC and maybe heat the bolts with a blowtorch before trying to loosen them, as they are on quite tight. The multi-spline has 12 teeth, as opposed 6 teeth on the regular one. It´s all explained in the next couple videos, and you can get a good look on the splines. Just click the links; good luck! :)

How did you get the turbo out? I am really struggling to get it out the bottom!

Hi I unscrewed the exhaust and the bolts from the bottom bracket of the turbo first. I then pulled it out from the top. Did you undo the airfilter-box and the hoses? You will have to, as you need the extra room it provides.

Hi The trick is.....move the dip stick.
      not remove.
the dip stick has a bolt on the triangle support undo that and move stick about 45 degrees the the right.
      get the turbo out.
      hope this helps 🖖
