    Tip 1: Get to the venue early
    Tip 2: Bring back up supplies (strings, battery, power supply etc)
    Tip 3: Have at least 2 hours of music ready to play
    Tip 4: Expect the unexpected and be ready for anything
    Tip 5: Thank the host

      I agree with the "be ready for anything".
      Over the last 20 years, I've played drums and vocals with several (local, small) cover bands, and we've all seen crazy shit go down 😂
      The majority of our gigs were just, everybody having fun and pretty uneventful, as far as brawls/violence.
      But we also had some standing sets in a few redneck bars, and one biker bar........ like I said earlier, we saw some shit😮
      I'm 58, and about to try my luck doing some solo acoustic gigs.
      I'm just a little timid about it though, I'm used to being "comfortably" behind my drums 😉
      Wish me luck 🍀🤞

    Do you sometimes use playback or beats (like a boss RC or a beat buddy) ? Or do you find it useless ?

    • @RichBischoff

      Not for wedding or acoustic gigs. Just my looper. Sometimes I smack my guitar to get some beat sounds going into the looper.

      It used to be in the studio. Now it sits downstairs waiting for gigs... I've never reviewed it. It's almost to loud for a lot of stuff I do. But I've had it for ever and know how to make it sound good.

    Very helpful video. I’m starting out and not sure what to charge per hour for acoustic gigs. What’s a ballpark fair price per hour for bar gigs?

    • @RichBischoff
      @RichBischoff  Před 2 lety +2

      Depends on the bar. But maybe ask to $200-300 per night. A lot of times bars already have a set amount they are willing pay per night, bur it depends where you live.

    Thanks for this brother. Great content! How many songs per set would be the norm? Im old school with a band, and soloing is different. Some say 5 to 6 songs, and leave them wanting more, and some say 10 songs per set. I do exclusively covers, and improvising to backing tracks. Love it.

    • @RichBischoff
      @RichBischoff  Před 3 měsíci

      In bands, it just depends on the venue and crowd. Gig like this, I don't take a break. Some places the band plays 45 min sets.

    Love the advice! Thank you for a newcomer this is so useful! What would be your advice on someone who is singing along with backing or being accompanied by a guitarist - I always find it difficult to move on stage with my stage freight.

    • @RichBischoff
      @RichBischoff  Před 2 lety +5

      The more you do it the less stage freight there will be. Just be yourself. Try to read the gig. Should you talk to the audience? Or are you just background music? Stuff like that. If you know exactly what the client or venue expects it will make it easier.

    • @syn707
      @syn707 Před rokem +4

      I hate saying this but it’s sooooo true. Most people, at least 85% do not know if a musician is good or not. If you play mostly popular music, known songs, people will love you just for that alone. So when you think about, what’s to be fearful of? The answer, it’s just you not being confident. Maybe knowing these simpke facts will help you relax. Try looking like you’re excited a little just to be playing, which is true, right? Let that shine. If someone approaches you, talk to them a little….
      Once I stopped playing and hiding in a band and went solo I became nervous before each gig. In one sense an old old old, lol, saying comes to mind. “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” One more. “The greatest challenge we all face in our life, is ourselves.” Meaning, yes, we are affected by outside pressures. But the majority of obstacles come from within.
      Good luck to you. Hope things are getting better for you!!, 👍👍

      @@AksoHeart Rich is right on. Now, I just go out and I don't even think about the things that used to make me nervous. You could be the best singer in the world. There will always be people who do not like you. ALWAYS. So forget about that. Actually, you, you know when you do well, and when you don't. We are our worst enemies. LOL.
      There is a famous jazz musician who said this, "About four or five times a year, everything seems to come together. The tone of my horn, the band...I don't know what that is but its like magic" The best to you Akso!
