    The Dad-Bot stayed away from Lorne so he couldn't read him. It was subtle, made it look like he just didn't trust demons.
    This was another perfect opportunity for Wesley to tell Fred how he feels about her.

    Lineage was a superb episode. Now we can see why Wesley really is the way he is. He was nurtured in such a way that shaped his early character, and in his Father here we see an almost carbon cutout of the irritating stuck up Quentin Travers from The Council. A banger of a start here with Wesley showing how his has developed his warrior skills, and a great sideways shooting scene when he does his PC Nicholas Angel bit from Hot Fuzz in the pub, copied of course from Bad Boys, but great nevertheless. Wesley unfortunately get chided by both Angel and Fred, it seems both are in the wrong here blaming him, and then his Father having to witness Fred chiding him. We see the bullying tone of his father here, saying how embarrassed they were with Wesley as Watcher. Great retort from Wesley when he replies I thought getting blown up was their most embarrassing thing to happen. Hilariously funny when Lorne says to Wesley's Father you could be the love child of Winston Churchill and Richard Harris. Very funny too when Spike says people having sex with robots is more common than you think, and then even more hilarity when Spike says to Wesley's father how have you been after the events in Vienna in 1963, brilliant comedy! Then we have the awkward scene with Wesley witnessing Fred and the 'sus' Knox flirting. The father usurps Wesley in the bomb scene. Super scenes on the roof in the end, when Wesley confronts his Father as he was trying to take Angels will. As the Father belittles Wesley again we see how Wesley has grown in confidence and will not listen to it anymore. When his Father grabs Fred, Wesley does not hesitate to open fire in one of the best scenes in The Buffyverse, his love for Fred is total even prepared to kill his own Father to protect her. Wesley of course did not realise his Father was a Cyborg, and feels immediate remorse over what he has done and gets physically sick, but he sees his Father is a Cyborg in a twist at the end. Again at the end hilarious comedy with Spike saying I killed my mum, well she tried to shag me. A painful scene for Wesley at the end with Knox going off with Fred. So poignant with Wesley ringing his real Father at then end just to see his was OK. This was one of the very best character centric episodes from the whole Buffyverse, this is why he became such a fan favourite I think he definitely had the best character arc of all Buffyverse.

      Dude! Wall of text is hard to read. Put in some empty lines to separate into sections/paragraphs and it would be a lot easier to keep one's place and absorb all the content. Thanks!

    Umm when she says Ruby is she referring to Gwen?
    Spike is referring to him having sex with the Buffy bot.
    Just being a big asshole is not justification to kill someone.

      "The Buffy situation with Warren" is the Buffybot that Warren built

      @godmagnus I was thinking if she meant the Buffy bot, she would have said buffy bot. But all she said was the situation with Warren, which led me to believe she is talking about Warren and April, the robot he made to have sex with.

    they either die early on, or are reason for your internal issues, or both.

    It's interesting that by the end of this episode we still have never actually seen Wesley's father and he's still just a voice on the phone to us and yet we feel like we know him, but do we? Would he have turncoated or was that the unseen bad guys who made the robot? It's an interesting way to tell the story of Roger, Wesley's father.

    Where is everyone complaining about this just being a "filler" episode?

    • @zemoxian
      @zemoxian Před 5 měsíci +1

      I think she has a tendency to call a lot of episodes fillers and some of the viewers find it annoying. The problem is the Buffy series came about at a time when shows were experimenting with extended arcs. Nearly all shows were much more episodic back then. So between that and the monster-of-the-week format, the stories are not as tightly woven as nowadays. However calling them filler without knowing what impact they’ll have or how they fit in the overall plot and character development can sound like putting the episodes down.
      Like, you could easily call The Wish a filler episode. By the end nearly everyone is dead and only the monster-of-the-week remembers what happened. How are you supposed to guess that she’d become a main character, Vampire Willow coming back, Sandy, Halfrek, the world without shrimp, bunnies, trolls, etc.
      Sure, that’s an extreme example but it’s a problem if when reacting to the episode you’ve decided it’s not important and irrelevant to the plot. There was no way to know what that episode could bring about.
      Don’t know why I’m going on about it now, it’s the last season. I guess Buffy was the first show I actually started to care what order I watched the episodes in or spoilers, etc. I grew up watching series in reruns. It didn’t matter what order you watched the show in. So the first episode I saw was when I caught “Band Camp Girl” rambling and Oz didn’t stop her in Hope, Faith, and Trick. (I never knew episodes had titles back then, either.) I was hooked from that episode and watched everything. Unfortunately it was a bit confusing starting in season 3 while season 5 was airing. But at least I was able to catch up on TiVo. So that kind of story telling was relatively new to me at the time.
      I guess it’s painful when episodes we like are tossed aside and we get overly emotional about it. Different people have different tastes and takes on episodes. So sometimes there’s disagreement.
