  • This week on ATGLive, the Star Wars gaming community finds itself embroiled in controversy as Ubisoft's upcoming release, 'Star Wars Outlaws,' faces backlash over its season pass model. The focal point of contention is the exclusive Jabba's Gambit mission, accessible only to players who purchase the premium editions priced at $109.99 for the gold edition and $129.99 for the ultimate edition. This move has sparked a heated debate among fans, with many questioning the fairness of locking significant content behind a paywall and expressing frustration at the perceived monetization of essential gameplay elements.
As tensions rise, Ubisoft attempts to quell the unrest by highlighting Jabba the Hutt's integral role in 'Star Wars Outlaws' regardless of the edition purchased. A spokesperson's reassurance to IGN emphasizes the narrative importance of Jabba and the Hutt Cartel, promising involvement for all players. However, the vague nature of the Jabba's Gambit mission leaves standard edition buyers in the dark about what they might be missing, fueling uncertainty and discontent within the community.
With 'Star Wars Outlaws' set for release on August 27, 2024, anticipation runs high as players await clarification on the scope and significance of Jabba's Gambit. As Lloyd and the ATGLive crew dissect the controversy, emotions run high, with passionate opinions and concerns shaping the discourse surrounding Ubisoft's handling of premium content in the Star Wars gaming universe.

The concept of creating extra content and budgeting the creation of that content as part of a "Bonus/DLC" is fine. People don't like it when they know, at release, that this stuff is already planned or made. But I think that's done because so many of the sales are made during the release week/month and selling as much as they can during that time is important to maximizing revenue for the game and also funding a sequel or just more content; because it takes a while to create that stuff.
They do it that way because it works. What I recommend to any player; pay what you think it's worth. If the price is too high; wait till it's cheaper. I will almost definitely buy the standard edition, pending reviews, and just wait for the extra content to get cheaper or just ignore it and never buy it. That's what I have done with many other games (I have Game pass so in most cases, I NEVER buy DLC).

I'm personally more concerned about the supposed online requirement just to play the game.
