Hi, thanks for such a good overview!! Do you happen to know if the a-198 would work to control software as smoothly as in eurorack ? Im thinking of getting it and a midi/cv module to use as a vst controller, but im wondering if in the cv to midi the pitch/v per octave transformation there might be some stepping or issues like that... could there be any issues or am i just worrying too much? Thanks a lot!!

Hi there, I honestly wouldn't know if this is possible. This is something you would have to try out.

Is there a way of getting rid of the short jumping pitch signal as soon as you lift your finger?

Hi psynamite, made a video about this, you can find it here: czcams.com/video/p5TLhmnPMJo/video.html

huh so you can change how far apart the notes are with the top "scale" knob, looks like!? that makes sense to me for practicing to perform with it .. you can start with a small range and plenty of room to find the notes & then graduate to a larger range with closer notes
i think someday i'm going to have to find room for one of those somewhere .. i was imagining it as just a ribbon but i guess it's actually a little box with a ribbon in it, hm! where could i squeeze in a little ribbon box hm :)

Hi mungojelly, sorry for the late response. Yes, the scale knobe changes exactly that. Fully turned to the left it only plays one note, fully turned right it covers several octaves. And yes its a box with a ribbon and a pressure sensor, pretty cool. Hope you find some space for it ;-)

I saw these units on thomann and i'd LOVE to create my very own Mixtur Trautonium with these modules since i am a HUGE admirer of Oskar Sala and his subharmonic compositions. I wonder if there's anything similar available (and preferably not too expensive) to Sala's specially made Frequency Shifter that was one of his secret weapons for his unique Sound.

There’s certainly less expensive freq shifters available these days, but I don’t recall what made Sala’s different?

@@jdanielcramer Well it was i think custom made for him by Telefunken. Very complex and expensive at the time when nobody else was building things like that. But it was something he really needed. However it turned out that it was what was really giving him a bit of a signature sound. Not just for his tube based Mixtur Trautonium but also the one made of Transistors and ICs in the late 80s. So yeah, i wonder if the available frequency shifters out there are somewhat close to the sound-altering features like the one he had.

@@KRAFTWERK2K6 cool, I’d love to learn more about its design, also checkout my video on the Freak Shift, a made in Canada frequency shifting module with some unique features!

Why does the pitch goes back to the original value once you release the finger?
