The January 16 & 23 showings will have English subtitles, while the January 17 & 24 showings will be English dubbed!

The 15th anniversary project to celebrate the movie releases of GURREN LAGANN is now here!
GURREN LAGANN (aired from April to September 2007) was Director Hiroyuki Imaishi’s (known for PROMARE, KILL la KILL, and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt) first TV anime series. The series won the 11th Japan Media Arts Festival Animation Division Excellence Award; with a striking style of direction and unforgettable dialogue, the series captivated and charmed audiences in Japan and abroad. The first film premiered in 2008, with all the lines re-recorded and new scenes added to release as GURREN LAGANN THE MOVIE Childhood’s End and later in 2009 with GURREN LAGANN THE MOVIE -The Lights in the Sky Are Stars-.
Kazuki Nakashima, known for his work on PROMARE, KILL la KILL, and Batman Ninja, worked on the screenplay while Atsushi Nishigori was responsible for character design. The mecha designs were brought to audiences by genius You Yoshinari.
In addition to bringing back GURREN LAGANN THE MOVIE - Childhood’s End - and GURREN LAGANN THE MOVIE - The Lights in the Sky Are Stars - to theaters again, this project will, for the first time ever, see the movies come to audiences in 4D.
[ STORY ]
This is the tale of a man who has yet to realize what his destiny is.
Far in the future, a young boy named Simon digs holes in an underground settlement called Giha Village. With his older brother figure Kamina and a young woman named Yoko who’s fallen underground from the surface, the three set out to pursue their dreams of the surface world. As the group makes new friends, they are joined by a mecha in the shape of a face called Lagann. Together, they set out for Teppelin-the headquarters of the Spiral King, the king of the beastmen and ruler of the surface world.
After overcoming intense battles with the Spiral King, humans, now having regained control of the surface world, are faced yet again with another unknown enemy. To save humanity from this predicament of absolute despair and hopelessness, Simon and Team Dai-Gurren push their way through the galaxies for a heroic fight.

I wasn't fast enough i missed them in theatres.. All I've ever wanted was to hear Simon say "Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann!" right after he and everyone else slipped into the anti spirals dimension and rescued Nia..

This is actually a dream come true for me. I always wanted these movies dubbed, already bought tickets for me and a few friends to watch both showings. Heaven and Earth couldn't stop me from watching this masterpiece.

I could be wrong but It seems the Anti-Spiral who used be voiced by Dave Mallow is now gonna be voiced be Crispin Freeman. If so I'm not surprised since Dave assumedly retired so a replacement was a possibility and Crispin does fit the role so I'm not complaining. Everyone else of course sounds fantastic Yuri Lowenthal & Kyle Hebert will always be Simon and Kamina to me.

I hope he at least does the Infinity Big Bang Storm attack justice. Dave's version, along with his "NEVER!!" clip, were flawless.

The most surreal thing happened when I was watching the first movie in theaters. This isn't a meme.
On the frame where Kamina dies, I got a call from my dad saying my mom had stopped breathing. Later at around 11, She passed away. I don't even know what to think of something so surreal. I took a picture of the frame and it's weird having a picture taken 2 seconds before she stopped breathing on my phone.
Can anyone tell if Kittan's voice is still the same? I guess not being able to tell is a good thing but I'd still love to know. He's my favorite side character in Gurren Lagann

Are the movies worth watching for a first time fan?
I'd say not really, the anime should simply be a rewatch session for those already acquainted to the show.
It will lose some of the impact by going straight to the movies instead of seeing the anime. That in mind, I still believe it would make for a fine experience.

Watched them both and rather enjoyed them. The things they changed were done better than I had anticipated. However there is just one thing that needs to be addressed with the director as I cannot sleep now. Why, why, WHY!? DID YOU REMOVE SIMON TELLING ROSSIU TO "GRIT THOSE TEETH!"???

@@Zak-bv4qmTechnically he was in the actual original. ADV had the rights to Gurren Lagann before the company went under and they had actually dubbed the first 5 episodes. Vic voiced Viral. The full ADV dub is unfortunately "lost" now, but you can find clips here and there floating around the internet.
I love Vic, super cool dude. Got to meet him years ago and he is truly a nice guy to his fans, but I'm happy with the dub we got from Bandai. I personally like Sam as Viral more than what I had heard of Vic voicing him to be honest. But if they did ask him or if he was able to have been apart of this new dub for the movies, it would be awesome to hear him as a background character or something.

I've seen it and they do a decent job ngl. In the first they basically use all the villains from the first half at once.
I thought the ending is different but it's not. All that struggle then the main heroine just disappear.

..its completely disgraceful that we're practically 2 months out from the absurdly limited screenings, with no indication of a possible further release. in dvd or streaming formats. seriously aniplex; do you just hate money? two days only for each of these, with a DUB for the first time ever on the movies and you don't give it a home release?
So if you haven't seen yet, I mean I just found out about it last night; they are doing a home release for it. Buuuuut Aniplex being Aniplex it's insanely expensive. Soo they do love money, they love overcharging that's for darn sure and the release is kinda dumb in my opinion as it's 4K HD Blu-Ray only and for god knows why, there's 2 discs for each movie. 1 for the Japanese Audio and 1 for the English Dub. The extra discs aren't for extra features... But for audio differences. Aniplex has screws loose that's for sure.

Yeah, my only gripe with this show is the ending like wtF was that, you're telling me a tale about bs friendship powers and the mc's can't even land a life partner, and they just get pushed aside from the story, if that was the lesson of the show then I'd rather they failed the battle against the anti-spiral.
