“I didn’t drink spirits so I couldn’t be an alcoholic.” I heard the same thing growing up and I hear the same thing now. So proud of Jackson’s mum for quitting. January 2022 my mum quit drinking for the month and it was the best our relationship had ever been. Don’t know why I dumped this in a CZcams comment.
Obviously, you needed to. Perhaps you need to talk to someone, a friend, or a therapist. May God bless you.
I like how you had the nerve to let others know how good it was when your mom quit drinking. Perhaps that knowledge will encourage someone else to quit. Thankyou.
Thanks for your courage in speaking up, speaking out.
Sometimes telling a room full of strangers is easier than telling somebody you know.
I think you needed too without realizing it, maybe someone else will read this and it'll ignite some sort of change ❤
That young Indian dr was so lovely to that mum. What a great way to be with someone when they are facing such horror. I am sure his mum must be very proud of him. I know I would be. He must have been brought up to respect everyone, well done.
When my sister was hit by a car while on her bike our mother couldn’t think of anything else except her daughter was hurt.
So honest of Jacob’s mom. Being a parent is so damn hard and there is no let up, no help. She is a hero.
Western societies are very hard on mothers: isolating, with very little help. It's crazy to expect one woman to look after three kids under five 24 hours a day. The sleep deprivation alone is horrendous. So-called primitive societies know that it really does take a village to raise a child, or at least a whole lot of friends and relatives to give the mother a break.
@@sarahsnowePerfectly said. A lot of people need to read that.
Try being a single mom. The Supreme Court told my husband he had to pay $10 a month child support and every cheque bounced. I worked a full-time job and two part-time jobs just to make it every month. I wouldn’t want to be a single mom now trying to make it with what the price of rent and groceries are.
People should not have children that they cannot afford. If you're single and pregnant, make plans to place your child for adoption. And in no case should anyone have more than two children. The biggest problem that our planet faces is over-population. We are running out of clean water and clean air, and trees to produce oxygen. Without enough oxygen content in our air, all animals will die, including humans. The decision to have a third child, is extremely selfish, and should be illegal.
I can’t imagine an ER doctor in the US ever going to get water for a family member of a patient. At least I’ve never seen it.
Dr's in the UK and NZ get a hard time if they think they are above everyone else. The nurses would put them in their place and their bosses won't tolerate it. I had a consultant (head dr) once who told his juniors when they started, "There are several hundred years of experience within the nursing staff, when you are working with them the collective experience is several decades, you listen to them always. They know what they are doing."
@@Neutronia1GREAT advice!!
Looks like you have crappy hospitals! My main hospital I go to is SO amazing and they’ll get you anything. Warmed blankets, pillows, ice water, literally anything.
He was so kind. Wish we had such in USA
.
Yup that never happens here ! Even the nurses never offer anything at all our medical system has no sense of hospitality.
RIP Joan, her children and grandchildren were lucky to have her.
Jackson is a credit to his parents. What a darling!
So courageous of Jacob's Mum to admit her flaws on TV. Not too many folks come to this type of realization on their own. Kudos to her, she's admitted to things I don't know if I would. My prayers for a most happy life!Very sad her son drank, but his Mum knows what he's going thru. He's certainly learned a valuable lesson!
I admire the mother discussing her alcoholism. To just look at her, I’d never have imagined that. But alcoholism doesn’t discriminate 🥴. I’m happy for her and her family that she realized she had a problem and worked on it
I can’t imagine why anyone taking in a small child because they were being bombed out during the war would lock them in a cupboard for any reason. What a cruel thing to do. I am so glad Joan had a beautiful husband daughter and granddaughter. May she RIP.
Joan and her daughter and granddaughter are so precious----lovely personalities.
i think that it’s admirable that the Mom realized that alcohol caused her to exist and not to live, and she trying to pass those lessons on to her children…..Jackson is so brave an$ i love his hat!
RIP Joan. My thoughts are with her family. I know how hard it is to lose your mom.
The mom being so honest and translucent about her addiction and how it affected her was so inspiring and her getting the help. I hope All the best for the family and I'm very glad nothing worse happened to him
I have been binging this series over the past couple of days. And the biggest takeaway that I have from this, is that I can't believe how much doctors over there actually care about their patients. In the US, you would not find this level of compassion and just pure humanity. Doctors here, especially ER doctors, are so condescending and rude and act like all you do is waste their time is there time, as if they aren't on the clock to help you. They don't even bother to actually listen to you, and if they do, half the time they don't believe whatever you say anyway because there's no way that we could possibly know anything going on in our own bodies without a medical degree 🙄
I was T-boned in an accident. A car hit mine in the driver's door and flipped my Jeep. In the emergency room, I barely saw the doctor. He came in and rocked his knuckles on my chest and I screamed. He said I was alert and walked out. It hurt to breathe or move my torso. A week later I saw my G.P. and he caught that I had fractured my sternum. The doctor in the ER was too busy to do a full exam and ignored my pain and anything I said. I now have a ridge in my sternum because it didn't heal correctly. I will never go back to that ER if I can help it.
Unfortunately I totally agree
@@karenj.5910That’s so terrible! I’m sorry you were treated so poorly.
I end up spending a lot of the time in the hospital in ER. I live in the US I have been blessed to have many many doctors and nurses who are gentle compassionate kind and willing to listen and look and save my life at least twice.
@@anastasiarose9003 well your experience seems to be rare. I live in the US and I'm in and out of doctors, specialists and ERs all the time. They treat me less than human and honestly don't seem to care if I live or die. They are rude, don't take me seriously, and have caused more issues than they have fixed.
Love this program🥹 watching from Australia
Me too, Melbourne
Me too. Perth. Western Australia.
Me three -Brisbane
Likewise. And we have our own version.
The treatment I have received in the public health system here in Australia has been over and above exceptional. Yes waiting times can be a pain, but once through those doors excellence and compassion reigns. Queensland Health, Toowoomba.
I'm so very impressed with all the doctors that really take care of there patients
I’m impressed with all the staff. It’s not just the doctors who are outstanding in the A&E.
She is a very good mother. To go through all the drinking and to say she’s done is a hard thing to cold turkey herself. My heart is out to Joan’s daughter. It’s hard to loss your mother. Bless them all
Sadly, as a medical professional, if somebody admits to drinking three drinks, we always double it, because nobody will honestly admit how much they’ve had to drink or how many drugs they’ve ingested. Although I will say from the state of Jacob, I would tend to believe him that it was closer to three than six.
RIP to grandma Yager she seemed amazing, and she reminded me of my own Nan
Saying that nobody will be honest is a harsh opinion. I realize people lie but there are those who speak truth still.
@@ItzBrittKneeBish would you want to be the one who causes a OD, because you didn’t error on the side of caution & experience…because that’s what emergency treatment has to do. Yes, there probably are some people who are honest but in life sadly the many pay for the actions of a few. Besides honestly… I would rather be in pain than accidentally given way too much medicine.
@@cobramom3just another example of MINORITY ruling.....upside down & stupid .....as usual🙄
I don't drink but I do use cannabis (legal recreational), and I was very careful in calculating the amount of use when I was filling out new patient history when I changed providers recently. I want them to be as informed as possible when they are making medication decisions for me.
Aww Jackson is such a sweet kid!
The more I watch these videos, the more I think a national health system might work better in the US than employer-based health insurance.
It works all over Europe and in NZ, Aus and Canada. We all pay a part of our income into a national scheme to fund it all. I just can't get my head around people dying because of lack of health care in the US or going bankrupt. It's immoral.
Good luck with that....US healthcare is just a money machine
indeed because the NHS treats everyone, working or not. I'm back in Europe but I lived in the US long enough to know that for-profit-healthcare sucks big time.
You do realize that tax payers will be the ones paying for everyone’s healthcare.
I agree ❤
😢I had 3 babies under 5,was a RN, came from an addictive family whether it was drugs or alcohol..but it was only social on the weekends...but thank God I do not have an addictive personality...I had lots of energy always, did not know what it was like to not going 200 mi.a hour through the day..worked 2 jobs,etc...loved it.Then I developed lupus, fibromyalgia, arthritis,in high school I was a cheerleader,in the band, every club around...all 3 of my kids r different..more like their dad, laced back etc...I am glad I didn't turn to drinking or drugs and neither has it been passed to my babies, even though their dad's Father also was an alcoholic..
Good job Mom for staying sober!
Joan was a TOUGH fighter. Faced her health issues with dignity and strength. We can all take a page from her book.
45:31 I’m sobbing. It’s so sad but so comforting at the same time knowing they are together again
Oh Jake we all make stupid when we are young but call an Uber man!!!
A thought - in the Relatives' Waiting Rooms, there should be easy chairs that recline, dim lights and soft music. That way people can sit and relax as they await word of their loved ones.
Love this program but why the hell don't people say that the DRIVER drove into a wall instead of saying the car drove into the wall.
The message will never get through until the news readers say the truth - the driver was speeding or drunk and drove off the road!!!!!
Good point!!
Oh, I agree 100% 😊
Wow Jackson did incredibly well with that blood draw, what a superstar ❤️🩹
That’s one thing I’m glad about being a type one diabetic for 53 years now, is that I didn’t like the way alcohol made me feel. Even after one drink when I would feel the alcohol working in me it felt like I was having a diabetic Lo blood sugar, and I hate how they feel. I very very seldom drink. And I don’t smoke. I feel bad when people get addicted to anything, not being able to walk away from it. Like with smoking, to think that that one cigarette has control over you or that one drink has control over you, it’s incredible. That cigarette you could step on and crush, that drink you could pour it down the sink. For those to have control over you to the point that you’re shaking because you need it, is just so sad.
I’m glad that the boy realized that he was on the path to becoming what his mom was, an alcoholic. It was a very good lesson for him to learn from and thank goodness he walked away without any real serious injuries. I’m so happy for his mom that she went and received help with her drinking problem. She’s a very humble woman to admit to the public that she had a problem and that she had to go for help. Nothing is wrong with asking for help when needed. I look up to people like her because she’s very strong to have quit drinking.
I’m so impressed by that little boy’s manners and just how well he dealt with what he was going through. I’m glad he responded to the antibiotics very well. Now his poor dad could go home and have a good nights sleep in his bed.😃
My condolences to the family that lost their mom and grandma. Like the daughter said, she knows her mom couldn’t live forever.🥺
New episode yay!thank you Banijay
Those metal chairs look like torture de ices! Lol!
Where is the episode where the child says i am going to be fine i am going to be very fine
Older episode I seen it a few weeks back
She's just the cutest.
@@JillABaker970 do you remember what episode it was
@@louiseleonard1992 if you’re still interested, it’s season 2, episode 11
There is an aspect that can never be fixed, and that is the scars left on the children of alcoholics . She says “I am a bloody good mom” like past never existed. Both my parents were alcoholics, the damage they did to us took years of therapy and cutting them completely out of our lives.
Adult children of alcoholics can and do get better if they join Al-Anon. After 10+ years of sobriety, I find myself on both sides of the issue. My brother, a person I love more than anyone else on earth, is an alcoholic, as are two cousins. The best thing a loved one can do is cut off the drinker -- it's essential to keeping one's own sanity. Good on you for getting therapy and talking with others who have had similar experiences. I hope that you have found peace..
@@josi7955 Thank you, well said!👏🏼
Poor little boy. I am the same way with blood draw. I can watch it happen to someone else. However, I have passed out more than once if I see it happen to me. Always look away Jackson.
When she told him he could watch...I thought, uh-oh, big mistake. Poor little thing turned absolutely white. Bless his heart.
Have been in hospital in USA Canada and Ireland. Best kindness people were in Ireland I loved them!
Jacob's Mom probably had postpartum depression after having 3 children in 5 years and didn't realize it so she used wine to help her cope...glad she's in recovery.
Joan was so cute, rip to and prayers for all
bless her heart and your family 🙏🏻❤
The lady that fell could have been my mommy.my mommy grew up not being shown love so even though she showed us 5 kids love in her own way it was daddy that taught us true love.
♥️🥺🥹 Breeeathe innnn and Hold your breath...
♥️🙏♥️
Yes, today in fact
How cute are all 3 patients in their own way. And my heart broke at the end, I was not expecting that 😢
Thank you for this episode all the best to these great families ❤
The stories of the family members are so interesting in this show.
Like people who opt to consume alcohol anywhere in the world and mj where it's LEGAL, either do it at home and not drive for a minimum of twelve hours after your last partaking episode while if you're going to partake outside of the house- get a fucking safe ride home from someone who has not partaken in your activities...... 🤦♀️
I've seen too much heartache because of poor decisions. 😢 I'm a retired helicopter RN.
I love that Joan swears a little bit LOL
Blessings to one and all...sigh.
May God bless you as well. ✝️ 🕊 🌹 ❤
Nothing good happens at quarter to four in the morning!
You British love your tea!
Yes we do.
Yes we do.
I like tea,and I'm from Finland.
*VERY GOOD*
Bless you
I heard that if one person is an alcoholic one parent is an alcoholic then you have 50% chance of being an alcoholic too if you’re their child and 90% chance of being an alcoholic if both of your parents are alcoholics
Regardless of the substance or behaviour.....addiction is an attempt to ease emotional pain.....Address those issues...(often very difficult)...and it goes a long way to solving that problem.
I pray that Jacob gets help with his drinking problem
Bleh. I knew that ending was coming, but it still sucked. At first I didn't like Joan, but then you hear what she went through, and you saw the genuine love the family had for each other, and you saw that there was a sense of humor under that gruff exterior, her passing hit hard.
I find it strange how people have loved ones in hospital and the interviews end up all about themselves and their problems.
They are trying to show how alcoholism effects a whole family, how it starts, how it effects innocent bystanders. Mom is a recovering alcoholic, now the son is driving drunk and he may have hurt others. They are showing the cycle of alcoholism.
Its how this show works. About how these things affect families as well as the person
i suppose just answerin questions asked
It's good that Jacob's mother has quit drinking. Now, she needs to quit smoking. Nicotrol products can be a great help, I had a great result with the Nicotrol Cartridge Inhaler System.
I have never drank alcoholic drinks in my life nor have I ever smoked in my 30 years of living but I have seen how it has affected some of my family members and friends not good a waste of money and life !
The mom of the 20 year old is on a rant about caring for 3 very young children? Not related to the 20 year old in ER??
I am happy to hear that she recognized she was in trouble and took some positive action. Kudos!!!
Narcistic 19:47
It is the name Jacob. Our Jake has been much the same as has been every Jacob I have met or seen
I went to the er super sick, in a lot of pain, sicker than a dog.... they accused me of being a drug seeker... tried to send me home for some stomach virus. Um I had sepsis and was knocking on deaths door. The united health care system is broken.
She traded one addiction for another vapping.
I have noticed that in England snd Australia, at least, people can touch each other in reassurance and caring manners. It is such a nice change from the US where a touch could result in “harassment “ accusations. 😊
To Jacobs mom - boy, do I hear you on that one. One's too many, and a hundred's not enough.
What is the little tab on the nasal canula for?
Pillows scarce there? We fight over pillows here in Utah USA!
Would love the show to be about Jacob not the drunks in his life.
30mph is high speed? Apparently the definition is extremely different in the UK
Someone please tell Jacobs’s mum what calling someone “cracker” means 😂😂😂
Please realizethat Dads have a stressful time raising children as well as Moms. They work hard and long. They try to have family time. They worry about the future. They have their dhare of stress with family life. 😊
They might not offer water or tea but they offer juice
Does anyone in that country have brown eyes? They r all beautiful shades of green and blue...
The mother, although a problematic period in her life, she needs to call a spade where Jackson is concerned, wrong time for the gorgeous talk, the seriousness of that accident needs discussed in terms endangering others, if he doesn’t start taking responsibility for the privilege of having a license.
@27:25 Must be awesome to stand around laughing doing no work yet being paid for it.
You can drink alcohol and not be a alcoholic
Easy to become addicted to alcohol
They might not offer water or tea but they offer jucie
I think Jacob's mum's comments on all mums being the same is very much off the mark. Not all parents treat being a parent as the privilege it is. That is one of the many things wrong with this World..... Everyone should be good parents, unfortunately they arent.....
they really milk the drama on this show lol
This isn't the I'm an alcoholic show. It was about the kid being in a car crash. Why the frig make it about the mother?
sadly, she passed it down to the son
This is the "alcoholic episode" though. They usually have some kind of theme for their episodes and here they had alcoholism and the parent child relationship foiled against the relationship between a young parent and child and an older parent and child. Very well done and executed.
This was not an alcoholic episode it was a parent and child episode lol
I can't imagine my grandma ever drinking like that. I pray that she knew Jesus as her Savior before she died 17:22
Sigh.
