Damn! You're good! I never thought there would be so much of 'er indoors's stuff you've used - does she watch these videos to find out what you've 'borrowed'? Keep up the good work.
lol - I was thinking the same, or "Sorry Charlie, it was supposed to be a white cake but for some reason when I sifted the flour it turned green" :) :)
One day I’ll have my own kitchen! I’ve got most of the stuff. Regards Charlie
lol, probably only when things are missing...
I’m waiting for the rolling pin to go flying across screen!😁
Correct comand An dus beutiful video.
HC Treintje Belgium Herman.
I could sense the stress of deadlines in this episode, Charlie, which none of us would want you to feel. Having said that, this is one of your best scenery results so very much a double edged sword!
We got there in the end, thankfully!
Why the hell have 9 people give this a thumb down? that scenery looks identical to the real thing, in fact so good on the video thumbnail i thought it was real.
Shall we put it down to jealousy? Heaven only knows. Regards Charlie
Further to the references to ones other half: while I was watching today's excellent episode, mine opened an eye from where she was napping on the sofa, and said, 'he's very calming' [as you were in the process of raiding the kitchen utensils] and promptly went back to sleep. Well of course mine's not bothered, I do all the cooking in this house and the kitchen is my domain. That's why I'm three years into planning my layout and still have nothing to show for it but a box of track!
Come on Tony, buy the timber.
I am the master of my kitchen and I have my own knives that my other half never ever uses. She has a set of knives that she uses on the rare occasions she does the cooking. I was making some hills for my little layout and thought I would use her carving knife, after all I have plenty of time to finish the job, wash and return the knife, the perfect crime. After the initial section my wife decided that she wanted a new chicken run and patio so my layout went onto the back burner. Fast forward a couple of months and we decide to clear out some of the junk our daughter had put in the garage. One problem, I had forgotten about the knife and as we cleared a work table, my wife spotted the offending item and I had some fast talking to do!
@@daviddyer2607 Sounds like you need a knife set just for carving scenary and doing dirty jobs :)
The closer you get to your rock faces, the more impressive they look! A real transformation of that area!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it pmichael73. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
I just love watching you do stuff like this - you are the Bob Ross of modelling.
You're too kind DJ
Being an absolute beginner, I have learnt so much from your videos and hope that I do justice to what I have seen. Keep up the great work Charlie.
What a heartwarming comment, many thanks, regards Charlie
So so so grateful that you don't feel the need to use background music in your videos.
I do very rarely during time lapse HJ
The new hillside looks great, the highlight of my Friday morning (in the USA) to see the progress on the layout.
Thanks Chris, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
What a fantastic transformation!! Great job Charlie, Thank you for your time and talent.
Thanks Steve, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, as a newcomer to model railways I just want to thank you for guiding me through the daunting challenge of building my first layout. Your videos are always very helpful and great fun. You have given me the confidence to have a go and following your videos my results have surprised myself . Many Thanks
Thanks John, for such a heartwarming comment. Good luck with your project, regards, Charlie
Expected nothing less from a retired Navy man! Another solid installment on the books, yea! Got the old escarpment Squared Away & Ship Shape! Bravo Zulu!
🇬🇧🤜🏽🤛🏽🇺🇸 🤟🏽🤠 ✝🛐
Thanks “me hearty”.
Hi Charlie, that cutting is looking very proto. Oops realistic! Finish off with a bit of static grass and it'll be the bee's knees. As you said, it is amazing how a bit of grass layer transforms the scene. Regards till next Friday, Bobby 'T'.
I'm so pleased that you found the video useful Bobby.
Regards Charlie
Charlie, as I may have said before scenery brings a model layout alive. I really get a lot of satisfaction out of doing scenery, so consequently I really enjoyed this video. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg, scenery really is something special.
Peco LK-85 Flexible Field Fencing. Love the stuff!
Thanks Mark I couldn’t find it anywhere. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway LK-85 out of stock until later in 2020. (Used to be LK=45)
It's coming along nicely, Charlie. Don't worry about the shirts. A good modeler has one messy work shirt for every 'going shopping' shirt. A GREAT modeler doesn't even know what a 'going shopping' shirt is!
Thanks for the tip Frank!
I used to have a model railway as a child. Still have some stuff in boxes and going to attempt a railway scene with my son soon. Thank you for these excellent tips and looking forward to having a go myself. 🥰
That’s great news Andrea, share the joy. Regards Charlie
Wow Charlie looking so good by the way nice plug for luke seen all his video's like you said he is amazing at what he dose I look forward to next friday
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Adam. Yes Luke is a God of scenics. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie. Always look forward to Friday evenings and watching your videos. Much appreciated.
Thanks For your loyalty. Regards Charlie
Love when scenery comes together. brings life into the baseboards.............great to watch............cheer's Tony
Thanks Tony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it
Hi Charlie
How about doing something on signalling, especially shunt signals and the black art of understanding them. You could also include the automation of either colour lights/semaphores as the trains pass them.
Best regards
Ian
Hopefully that will be next week Ian
Awesome as always Charlie, although the brown in the sculptamold was too light, there is a positive out of it,it acted as an undercoat
I’m so pleased you’re looking on the bright side.
and it was useful to show the coverage on the video
@@ChadwickModelRailway hope you and the family are well, and most importantly staying safe, oh i forgot to say yesterday, but on the new bit of scenery, theres a bit of brown been left showing, was it intentional?,i didnt know how to raise it without sounding like a jerk
A portable fan would help dry the scuptamold faster. Old drywallers trick. Great job Charlie!!
A very good point, thanks mate, regards Charlie
I didn't hear "the easiest way to apply this is by hand" but rather; "the easiest way to apply this is by making a mess"! Great video, Charlie
It reminded me of my childhood, playing with mud.
Seeing all that Celotex has made me want some cheese!
A fair point Bill.
The hillside looks great 👍, love the attention to detail. As for suggestions for vids twofold I'm quiet interested in the wiring aspect for the point motors on the new section in particular the power supply you use and connecting everything up to I assume bus wires that go around the whole layout?
Secondly I've been racking my brains at how to turn around a train locomotive, do you use a turnstile? Shunter? Or a custom section of track? And can it be automated in a dcc layout?
I Will be wiring again in a week or two. No I don’t need to turn any of my diesels around so therefore I don’t need a turntable. Regards Charlie
Fantastic scenics once again. brilliant to watch
Thanks Kevin you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
I love "before the Mrs finds out", I would think most model train guys have been "caught" using something they shouldn't have lol. Another great video!!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it David. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
HI Mr Chadwick Sir. Please forgive me for this remark, no offence intended, It would be such a shame to place the signal box from your daughter with the back outwards, Would it not be possible to place it in the space between the crossing and the tunnel entrance. I Love all your work.Reg Mark.
An interesting observation Mark. I’ll certainly look into it. Regards Charlie
That top is a smashing idea, could I make a suggestion selling them like Chadwick on side and as seen on CZcams on the other?
I’ll be looking into it next week Rebecca. Regards Charlie
You do like flying into the wind with 'er-in-doors. Great Hill and cutting. Well filmed and good interest. Thank you Charlie.
Thanks Duncan, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, regards Charlie
Very instructive, certainly helps greatly a new modeller !!
Thanks Dominick, regards Charlie
I hope the other half doesn’t watch your episodes, too many confessions with video evidence 🤣🤣🤣
I think I’m safe on that one CB. Regards Charlie
Looks great Charlie! I love that you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, The layout is really shaping up.
Thanks Lou, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Great Tips! Your patience in your videos makes the layman not so prone to mistakes!
Only because I’ve made them instead! 😜
Congratulations on a clear and honest how to do it. You make it all look so straightforward. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful John. Regards Charlie
Thank you for adding the woodland scenics numbers.
Great video as usual.
Thank you
You are most welcome Stewart. Regards Charlie
Dang you make it look to easy. Where were you 25+ years ago when I was try to build my train set up when in my teens. Now might be the time to try again. Thanks for the video.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Here we go , favourite time of the week 😁😁👍👍
What a heart warming comment Pjanic. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Nice to see all the great scenery work on the layout.

That rock face is awesome Charlie. You are in dire straits if Mrs Charlie ever watches this one 😂
Life on the edge Clive.
Absolutely brilliant! I’m just starting out with my 0 gauge train set, can’t thank you enough for your presentation and clear instructions! Thank you
What a heartwarming comment Jackie.
Amazing results and another inspiring "How to" guide. Thanks Charlie
Thanks Steve. Regards Charlie
Just at this stage now - I found your video very informative and helpful. Your delivery and the odd bit of humour thrown in adds a little extra to the whole thing - Thank you . 🤩
Thanks Graham, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the channel mate. Regards, Charlie
Another cracking video. It's certainly given me a much appreciated lesson in landscape scenery construction and I do like your self deprecating humour.
I’m so pleased you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Great kitchen skills Charlie, just make sure you don't get your rocks mixed up with the rock cakes by 'er in doors... LOL. At least if I come around for tea and the bums are a bit gritty I will know you've been using the shive again. Your defiantly a man of many talents. I wee tip I recently heard about is if you have anything stuck down with a hot glue gun and it is set. If you need to remove the glued item to another place or fix a wrongly placed or broken item. Then dab neat IPA around the edge of the glue and give it a few seconds to work its way under. The IPA will eventually separate the glue from the surface it is stuck down on. It is a good way to release and reuse objects without forcing them up with paint scrapers and damaging the items. Though I don't know if it works on all surface types.
Thanks John, that’s a very interesting tip. I will certainly try it out. Regards Charlie
Hi charlie i am at the same stage as you with my layout { three bridges} and same method bit like cooking all different ingredients great video again mate thank you. God sake don't let the wife catch you out with her stuff been there me self .LOL .
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Tony
A great job on your new cliff Charlie, looks utterly amazing as you brought it to life.
Thanks David, I’m so pleased you enjoyed it
Absolutely brilliant!
Andrew Lees I'm so pleased that you found the video useful.
Regards Charlie
Another brilliant piece of model making Charlie
Thanks Alex, you’re too kind, regards Charlie
That hill and Rock face is just what I want to achieve on my OO layout 👍🏻😀
Then I suggest you get on and build it, it’s easier than you think
Well done Charlie another great how to video, always look forward to Friday lunchtimes now. Keep up the good work, cant wait to see this layout finished and running.
Thanks Chris, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
So jealous of the branded polo top, they look so nice. Great video Charlie. This is very helpful as I am building my own.
Stay safe Charlie.
Glad you like it Dan.
I have always had trouble using plaster of paris, so I have used casting plaster, just it comes in 25kg bags and lasted me for a few years, really like the idea of putting black paint in it, thanks from us down under in Wairoa New Zealand
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting Jed. Regards Charlie
Brilliant Charlie I get so much out of your videos, look forward to Fridays.
Thanks Rod, you’re too kind.
Thank you for sharing this. Just ordered everything to build a motte and bailey castle with my daughter for her school project. Really appreciate your passion, expertise and generosity.
What a heartwarming comment James, thank you very much. Good luck with your build. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie another great video. I will be starting landscaping my layout soon, with inspiration from yourself and Luke Towan complete with a viaduct inspired by the one you built. Keep up the great work Cheers Andrew

More like supidity!

Amazing - looks so realistic
Thanks Kris, that’s most kind.
Great shirt Charlie looking good 😀👍
I’m so pleased that you like it LJ
Lovely result - the drybrushing technique really works well for rocks. I agree that the greenery on the rocks makes a big difference.
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
It turned out great Charlie. Your videos are giving me plenty of ideas and techniques for when I start my first layout in 30 years
Come on Ashley, you know you want one.
Fantastic Charlie, I kept getting flash backs to Gerry Anderson’s back drops from Thunderbird’s, just shows what can be achieved.
Great demonstration. Keep up the excellent work.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Paul. Regards Charlie.
Great job Charlie !!!!
Thanks Bert
Great video as usual and encourages me to know that I have used the right materials at the start of my layout.
You’re the lucky one Roy, most of us learn from our own mistakes. Regards Charlie
Great video I use shed and fence to colour the rocks works a treat
We have so many options in this hobby. Regards, Charlie
Another smashing scenery lesson! You capture the rolling hills and meadows so very well with your technique. Can't wait to see this scene ballasted and hosting trains! Keep up the good work! Nice shirts!
Yea, I was looking forward to the aggregate work myself...what a
scenic punch-up when done well!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it Pat. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Bloody brilliant Charlie ..!..!
Thanks Peter you’re too kind
Another fine job Charlie, looking forward to seeing a train come across the viaduct and fill and pass through the cut. The changes in elevation in the scenery really bring the scene together.
Thanks Samuel, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Great bit of scenic work Charlie - great to see your better half playing such a key role in your modelling exploits by supplying those vital accoutrements (even she doesn't know herself)! Another classic video from you - Friday's wouldn't be the same without a dose of Chadwick. Euan
Thanks Euan, I’m so pleased that I’m keeping you entertained. Yours Charlie
This was really straight forward and looks brilliant , now for my attempt
I’m sure you’ll make a cracking job of it Nigel. Regards Charlie
Great work.....aid i have to admit, I never thought about adding paint to the plaster mix.....will try that on the next batch!!!!!!!!!!!
It was my first time of trying it too.
Just one word describes that hillside, Charlie... Brilliant!
Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
You’re too kind David thank you very much regards Charlie
Another Masterclass Charlie, thank you.
TonyS
Tony, you’re far too kind, regards Charlie
I just simply love the way you explain and do it to show detail. Looks very good.

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it David Sheriff. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Brilliant. !!
Thanks BP.
A great job there Charlie and it’s so life like. The fence is PECO it’s LK-45
Thanks Andy
These videos always remind me of the tiny 5' by 3' board I had a couple of years ago...it'd be nice to have the space for a full-size layout like this someday.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Tom.
Another great video Charlie. Thank You. Keep Safe.

My pleasure GRE. Regards Charlie
I will be on the lookout for more to come.
That rock formation and hill looked so trashy at the beginning of the video, but then it looks super amazing at the end of the vide. Great work!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it stressball. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
An excellent and informative video Charlie. Handy for me as I will hopefully get to this stage in a place or two in a couple of weeks. Love how you detail the rockwork and use the scratch plaster.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Spence.
My preference loved the white rock face.Rgds Don
A good choice Don.
Brilliant as always Charlie, like your style.
Thanks Steve, you’re too kind mate.
Thank you. This is very informative and takes some of the mystery out of realistic scenery. Your results are inspiring !
Thanks Terrence, you’re too kind.
Top video once again keep it up that area will look good when done looking forward to seeing it thanks mate keep them coming high light of my week
What a charming thing to say Rowan. Because Charlie
Another great video thanks Charlie, just a small tip for people who don't want to buy moulds to make rocks I use tinfoil. I take a piece and crumple it up like the shape of a mould then open it out and pour in your mixture. You get a different design every time and it only costs for a roll of tinfoil, keep up the good work .
Cheers Bryan
A good tip Bryan thank you
An outstanding presentation. Clear speaking and looking at the camera so I was able to lip-read. As an aside, I use top quality kitchen paper towels painted with 50/50 diluted PVA glue instead of Plaster cloth. Two layers over cardboard lattice formers and its amazingly strong once coated with full strength acrylic paint. I’ve even used it direct laid in layers in WS rock moulds - very easy to handle and no plaster dust. Working the texture with the end of the paint brush gives great rock face effects. I have “subscribed” and will be watching many more of your presentations. I have modelling since 1964!
Greetings from New Zealand! another very informative video, thank you so much! Love the use of different grey paints to get the shadow effect. I have never tried the Woodlands moulds, instead "freestyled" with plaster of paris etc. There are so many ways to create an authentic rock face like this....great video indeed!
Thanks Stephen, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
Looks great Charlie! Indeed what a difference some greenery makes when you add it to a layout! I can't wait to put some scenery on my layout. Clint
I’m sure it will turn out very well Clint. Regards Charlie
The rock face looks superb Charlie
Thanks very much John, regards Charlie
Hi Charlie-Thank You for your brilliant video !
I have just found your channel and you have opened my eyes .I had model trains years ago
my first trains where a" Blue Pullman "set and a "Britannia" steam engine with a oil smoke generator !
That was a long time ago ! The electronics is not a problem,- but the scenery is !
Thanks once again
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it AS.
