Great stuff. One thing I like so much about these woodworking videos is that they're timeless. I'm watching this 4 years after it was posted and the information and tips are just as true and accurate, and useful, as they were when it was made. And that'll be the case 4 years from today.
Good tips, good explanations, no mumbling and no interfering background music.

Love the tips - some I haven't seen before.
One that you might want to try (related to clamping) is that when edge-joining boards, they tend to slide around a lot as you tighten the clamps. Literally a few grains of salt (not sugar as it's not sharp enough) added to the glue before joining eliminates this & does not impact the strength of the joint.

Just have to say thank you very much for showing those miter corner clamps made from a small block of wood to clamp and glue together corners. I made several of them to glue various corner joints for drawers I'm making for family dressers and vanity tables. These simple wood clamps have made it so much easier to glue-up tight and consistent and accurate corners every time. Thank you again for posting your tips and hacks for the rest of to see and use on our own woodworking projects.!!

OMG🤯 I’ve been overthinking this!! Thank you 🙏. I have a strap especially for frames but I have more scrap wood and extra tie downs straps than I do money😂 so I’m definitely trying this out. I usually have a few frames I need to do at once but have to clamp them a couple of hours in between. Huge time saver man!!
Great tips, I especially love the helping hands thing, I’m constantly fighting with falling boards. I really like how these are actual things we could do, I hate seeing “simple do it yourself hacks” and they use like a lathe and a full workshop of stuff to make the perfect project.

Another great video! I’ve watched several of your instructional videos and have never been disappointed. I’ve been doing renovations and tinkering for over 30 years but only recently started to get into finer woodworking (started with a really crappy ash tray hahaha) and every time I watch one of your videos I find myself in my garage/shop making something that puts your techniques to use. You end your videos with “thanks for watching” - I end them with “thanks for the help”!
The extra set of hands... seriously, brilliant.
I wish I'd found this even a month ago before building my outfeed table, or end table, or cat litter hutch, or countless other things where having a nice right angle could have been done without screwing a block in place temporarily.

Never comment on youtube videos. This is hands down the most useful video Ive seen on woodworking to date so had to give you props.
Simple but clever - the spare hand was the best and original - to me anyway.
The corner clamps are well known but never realised how quick and easy to make your own...don't buy one...make it.

@tgmforum Don't think that's true. Let's number each side of the corner elements starting top left going clockwise: 1,2 then 3,4 for top right, 5,6 for bottom right and 7,8 for bottom left. As far as I can see the pressure applied to 1 drives the top bar to the right, seating it into corner point 3. Pressure applied to 3 drives the right bar down towards us into corner point 5, and so on. The forces cascade around the frame in both directions ultimately pushing the miter joints tight, even though the forces at each corner do not appear to force the joint on that particular corner, they do on the neighboring corners. The 1 inch gap you propose would close when you tightened the strap. Make sense?

Well, as usual, Colin, you showed me two things (clamps, in this case) that I just went downstairs and made. I’m making a box for a friend and need some way of getting a good clamp on all four corners. I do have one of those wrap-around straps with plastic corners, but it doesn’t do a great job by itself. I added in some of my new corner clamps and BAM! A great set of miter joints! Thanks, Colin.

How do you ensure they’re really 90 deg? Just keep fiddling with your table saws mitre gauge till you get it right?
The corner clamps and 3rd hands are an awesome idea. I was looking at buying corner clamps today, but I'm going to use your tips and tricks. This saves money and proves to my wife that all my scrap wood isn't useless.

Genius hacks good for all time. I work in IT and software changes every 3-6 months. Its a challenge to keep your skills current. But in woodworking, the same skills are good 100 years from today. What a joy! Thank you for sharing.
Great tips on clamping mitered corners, also the clamping squares when more hands are needed...these will come in handy, especially when using pocket screws and you don't want the mating piece to shift when driving the screws. Simple and effective.

OMG Thank you for this video. I’m not making a picture frame but an Asian lamp, so the base and the top are basically the same concept as a picture frame. I bought a corner clamp at Harbor Freight, it just doesn’t seem to pull the 2 pieces of wood together as tight as I would like. Those jigs and the ratchet strap are going to be my ticket I believe. This video is 3 years old and I clamped a joint yesterday. I just watched this video today. I had 3 years to learn how to clamp a joint properly and just had to come across this video the day after I struggled. Lol.

I’ve been a joiner for nearly 20 years and always used the straps to glue 4 mitres, the corner blocks are a great idea I’m definitely going to make myself some. 👍🏻.
