      This collision happened due to a lazy crew/captain, unconcerned with safety. They lost engine power as they were turning to go under the bridge, and began drifting towards the bridge support, powerless for around a minute and a half.
      They were able to regain power, and instead of trying to abort the turn completely (which would've easily avoided the collision), they got greedy, and tried to finish the turn to go under the bridge, and not lose any time on their schedule. But they lost engine power AGAIN like 30 seconds after getting it back up and running, they were given a final push towards the bridge support, with no steering control. And then collided.
      The cargo ship that caused the crash (the "Dali") has been in two previous collisions with similar conditions that could be easily avoided, given proper procedure. The people who crew this ship are NOT good people.
      They more than likely knew their engines were faulty and unsafe, especially for such a huge vessel. And they chose to leave the port anyways.

Something has to be done to prevent this from ever happening again. People lost their lives for nothing. I’m sick actually. This is absolutely terrible. I want to share my thoughts on this. It is a tragedy that the bridge collapse in result of a boat hitting the bridge. Personally I don’t believe that they said the engine stopped. I think that the fault was cause by the person driving but of course that’s my opinion. My grievance is with Biden and the media on how they put this on the news immediately and covered it and called it a tragedy and Biden spoke on it hours after it happened. Biden did not do nothing for the Hawaii fires that offered a few months back. He busted the victims of that fire months after it happened and worst than that never spoke on it and did not sent aid. $400 is nothing. If I lived in Hawaii I would not vote for Biden but instead vote for Trump but of course this is my opinion. My mind is made up.

      @tolishel Před 2 měsíci +1

      We will know for sure after the investigation is done.
      Ships have redundancy systems but, sometimes even those fail, one of the problems is that when you loose power, main engine can still run for a minute or so, but the steering and bow thruster don't work. It takes about 30sec or so to get the emergency generator online to get steering, of course if no one forgot to put it in "standby mode", but the bow thruster still won't work, which would be critical in this situation, to attempt to steer away the bow to avoid the collision.
      Back to the ME (main engine), it is connected directly to the prop shaft, no gearbox, no clutch, so during the blackout presuming ME was still running, that means ship was still pushing ahead, but no steering for at least 30 sec.. maybe they have tried to pull back and slow down, meaning main engine has to come to a complete stop and then start in reverse, again this takes some time, also just speculating the system did at least that, but who knows... even if it did, it will take a long time before it stops. The too much black smoke was strange, maybe was a generator that failed.
      But the crew? I can only imagine how panicky the crew was running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to get things back online. At least whoever called for mayday chose to do the right thing instead of trying to help get it back on course with the rest of the crew. The crew knows how dangerous it is in a situation like this in the harbor. Too bad about the 6 people lost. It is an absolute tragedy.
