    Guys please dont follow her advice That cage is way too small. They need enough room to fly around and play. I would recommend a bigger cage. You can move up in size ones it's older. But never do it in that size.

      I totally agree! The cage in this video is too small for a Parrotlet. Did you happen to have a chance to see the video notes where I mentioned this is a temporary size during the training process? A permanent cage would need to be significantly larger. Thanks for your comment!

    One little thing, you shouldn’t use smooth perches. It’s like you holding onto monkey bars all day. It’s hard for them to grip without slipping and can lead to several foot problems. That doesn’t mean use sandpaper perch covers either, parrots don’t need grit in their diet like other species of birds, their gizzards don’t work that way, and them ingesting grit can cause injuries to their gizzards. Just use things like rope and natural branch perches, the more variety the better. 😊

    hey i just found this channel while trying to look for parrotlet taming tricks and i have some questions.
    i just got my girl on sunday (shes abt three months old, her hatchday was april 9) and the breeder told me to take her out every 4-5 hours for thirty minutes so i can bond with her, talk to her, handle her, etc.
    my number one question is- what else can i do? the breeder told me to do just that and peggy, my child, keeps biting and yelling whenever my hand goes near her. we have made progress during our sessions, ie. she ate treats out of my hand today! and she sorta knows what step-up is. the breeder also implied to hold her as frequently as possible so she can get used to human contact.
    what else can i do to help improve our relationship?

    I appreciate you trying to educate others on parrotlets and birds etc. But please do your research and know what you're talking about first! Plastic perches are NOT good for their feet. AT ALL. EVER. As well as stainless steel bowls being BETTER because they don't harbor as much bacteria as plastic bowls do, not just because they're easier to clean. Also that cage is way too tiny. I realize you're training your parrotlet right now which is totally fine! But you shouldn't be recommending those cage sizes for birds that are any bigger than a Finch or canary. UNLESS it's truly just a cage for sleep. And again! Sigh... The thing you said about the beaks is just not true. Beaks are beaks and just because there is a budgie on the packaging doesn't mean it's solely for the budgies. Plastic toys aren't good for ANY kind of bird. They need toys they can DESTROY AND PREEN. Foraging toys are ideal for ALL BIRDS and it's extremely good for their mental. Things they can shred. Shredding toys made of natural materials! Please please please do more research before trying to educate others! I'm not being negative in any way but there are probably kids watching these videos and you're giving false information and information that isn't ideal.

      Parakeet World• plastic perches should only be used if it's for let's say a travel cage. Taming can take some time so there's no excuse for there to be one of those in that cage. Having a plastic perch is like being on monkey bars for humans. It only take a few times swinging back and forth and gripping the monkey bars for blisters and sores to start developing on our hands.

      Olivia Jachim It's not impossible, however, it can take quite a bit longer and require a lot more patience. Depending on the birds as well, they may always retain a bit of flightiness as well, but not always. Definitely try, just be prepared to be a lot more patient. All the best! 😊

    shouldn't parrot cages be taller rather than longer?

    • @PippyPets
      @PippyPets  Před 6 lety +4

      Dana Tellier Thanks for your question. It really depends on the species. Softbills (finches, canaries, etc.) do better in longer enclosures as they need the space to fly back and forth. Some hookbills (parrot) species don’t climb but are avid fliers such as Bourkes Parakeets. For birds like these, length is more important than height.
      For other hookbills, length is not quite as necessary when compared against height, however, the bigger the cage the better is always the general rule.
      The cage in this video is a temporary cage used as part of the taming process. Parrotlets needs taller and longer cages as their permanent home.
      Hope that answers your question.

    I have an eight month male blue parallette I'm baffled by way he acts with me. For instance he will eat seeds from my hand while he's in the cage on his perch he'll come out on the cage door to eat see them by hand seeds for my hand. he actually flies from the cage
    over to me. He wants to be with me it sometimes you know. He we'll fly over to me or nearby me he wants me to put my finger up which I do leveled out and he goes on to my finger and quickly sometimes he stays on my finger sometimes he likes to go stay on my wrist most of time she likes to stay on my shoulder and or if I'm sitting down sometimes he likes to stay in with my arms like the Bentley near my hip joint section by my cuddling Mike's in my sweatshirt in that corner against my stomach and my arm. So clearly is comfortable with my contact with him. What baffles me is when I put my hand in the cage to get something or just something to fix something he completely runs and hides in the high part of the Cajun and if I have to put my hand up there and not section he will he will try to bite me and it has and has bitten me but not hard not hard at all. I'm baffled that the bird could fall asleep on my shoulder hand or when I'm sitting down against my stomach and I might want and on my arm in my bent elbow section I actually falling asleep there. And he also likes me too when he's sitting on my finger elect my little finger to scratch his head and his neck under his jaw and under the front of his jaw specially but the side roads are real good knee fluffs its feathers are real real real wide and closes his eyes and puts his big down into against the the sofa and just lets me pet him it completely I guess that must feel so good to him. So it's baffling to me that when I go to put my hand in cage she acts like he's never seen me before like he doesn't know like I'm a stranger going to hurt him what's the reason for this?
    throughout the day on and off he goes right on my finger regardless of very good and you fly back to the cage of flies say to the wall unit and I'll go I just put my finger down over there and he jumps on my finger and I put it back on the cage question is he's very comfortable with getting on my finger yet when I go in the cage to pet him and or to fix something in the cage he's very scared of me how can you be scared of me when he very call me once he sits by me he likes to be on my arm and shoulder so why is he so afraid when I go in at with my hand in the cage? And he wants to bite me try to or will bite me. Not hard but when he's attempting to bite me outside now and healed. He's looking at me and you looking at my finger my knuckle on my bent finger that I'm going to pet him or if I have to get a perch or move something and he gets aggressive I just say no and he freezes most of the time I just find it baffling that he is very aggressive in the cage when I'm moving things around specially if it's near him he goes too far away is in the cage is possible for my half of my head in the morning he flies over to me to be wants to be by me when I open the cage door sometimes go to his playground or go up on top of the cage with his another Purge when that's open as well and usually goes down to the playground next to his cage and swings and multiple purchase and various chewing toys and sometimes he'll just fly over to me as I mentioned before and I put my finger near him and it gets in my finger goes up my shoulder and next and maybe likes me to pet him his feathers on his back of his neck and under his I can feel his job only likes to my finger to go under there and scratch under there and under the very very bottom of his bottom because he likes to be scratched the bottom of his neck there and the other job and the top of his head as well he puts all his feathers fluffed up it's just so strange bird is so close his eyes falls asleep on my shoulder and my arm when I'm sitting in the chair next to my belly and full of sleep for like 5 minutes. And yet this very same parallette young bird and maybe an hour later I got to go in the cage I'm putting something in the cage a treat for him he will go to the farthest highest perch in the cage runs runs away from me they can fear and it said if I got to go near if I go to pet him he's got his beak open and no actually attempt to bite me that's a no and then he just looks at me and say no and then I put my finger gently over his head pet him twice and he but he very guarded and I pet his head and then I back my hand out close the cage why is the parallette acting this so night and day emotion you want to be with me like to me and yet in the cage is very feared and on his guard that gets on the stranger is the cage his like private domain another words, but he shouldn't be afraid of my hand he eats from it every day in the morning. I'm looking for answers? Thank you.

      Parrotlets also act like this when they are lying eggs or are about to this. But this scenario doesn't exactly fit a male bird.

      Yes what I would do is every day put your hand in the cage with some millet until one day it takes some from you this means it trusts your hand and you can teach it to step up (you can search for tutorials) then you can slowly take it out of the cage. Birds are not like dogs or cats and they need a lot of taming, bonding, and training for them to be comfortable with you.

    • @PippyPets
      @PippyPets  Před 5 lety

      Hi, thanks for your question. It’s possible, however, it will take a lot longer and much more patience, particularly if she was not handfed as a baby. If she wasn’t handfed, while you may be able to hand-tame her to an extent, she may never be cuddly or like anything more than sitting on your hand. It depends on the bird. All the best!

    happy huts/ fuzzy beds are harmful for the bird! they might ingest a piece of fur. small cages can make them scared since they dont have enough room. i see no shredding or foraging toys, which is not good at all! shredding is part of a birds natrual actions. plastic perches are super harmful and can cause bumblefoot, it can also burn the foot badly. even for temporary taming it is not safe at all. do not listen to her

    • @lizclark7269
      @lizclark7269 Před 3 lety +3

      No mirrors are not good for any bird they can cause the bird to get hormonal and they can become obsessed with it

    • @sevxred.hand_
      @sevxred.hand_ Před 3 lety

      no, your birds can become hormonal and very very aggressive. they can become obsessed or try to even mate with it! females can mate with the mirror and get eggs, but it will get stuck and will need surgical removal. males can also mate with the mirrors but the biggest problem is, once they get obsessed they will stop eating and drinking. if they aren’t obsessed then they are probably mad at it. it is because they always think there is an intruder in their cage, they are gonna hate it and become aggressive! once they are aggressive with it they are gonna yell a lot and not even let you put your hand beside their cage because they will feel like they never have a safe spot.

      You need to do your research before you get any bird they are not easy pets. As for buying one you should check rescues, breeders, and if you have to an exotic animal store (please don't go to petco, petsmart, or any chain store).
