One should not forget that he became the top most MD without Lata ji singing even a song under his baton. As long as Lata ji was the number one singer, most of the film producers used to make it a point to have her songs in their movies for their success and very few dared to make movies without her songs. In spite of this, OP was able to reach the pinnacle of popularity due to his ability to extract the best out of the singers who sang under his music direction.
