My friend (who is gay) and I are always holding hands, are on each others arms when we go out, tell each other we love each other, but I'm completely straight and he's gay, so people get confused when they see us together. We just are comfortable with each other and love each other (platonically). It's not a huge deal.

Yeahh its stuff like this that makes me realize how lucky i was to grow up with the family i did. It was never a big deal, it was never a deal at all. One day I brought a girl home and i was like “this is my girlfriend” and my mom was like “uh huh so is she staying for dinner orr? Oh you should bring her to [aunts house] for fourth of july were doing a big thing” and then later on i ended up bringing a guy home and there was no “but i thought you were gay?? this video and the sentiment behind it are steeped in homophobia. it’s one thing to go to a content creators page to see if they’re in a relationship with someone else. however, taking the time to create entire videos discussing, or trying to sus if said creator is a “girlie pop” or not just plays into the constant hyper vigilance and scrutiny queer people face every day. yes, this creator used a fake relationship to draw views in; he’s allowed to (it’s his dating life), and his audience is also allowed to be curious about said dating life. but ultimately queer creators should be able to date who they want to date without the main question being their partner’s gender. this video feels like a subtle way of “reassuring” the straight audience that yes, he’s gay-gay, don’t worry, you weren’t wrong. i wish this video instead would have looked at why it matters so much to an audience if a creator is strictly a “girlie pop” (i can’t get over that stupid phrase used in the video) or if they’re bi, bc it’s normal to be curious, but true support for the queer community means moving towards conversations that don’t center on demanding that a content creator divulge to their audience their sexuality at any and all times. especially bc videos like this, that seem harmless bc the conclusion is, “ya he’s gay, we were right all along” (which other commenters have rightfully pointed out, is still an assumption), run the risk of forcing a creator to out themselves.

I haven't been watching him in a while and I'm sure I'm not the only one, so when I saw his video with "my girlfriend" I knew it was a desperate attempt to get people watching again. I know it's not that serious but this lack of integrity and maturity is part of why I just didn't resonate with him anymore.

The internet has always been hardcore about relationship status details and they’ll dig for eternity for that info. I think this is a good lesson in not being so certain of someone’s sexual orientation unless that person chooses to talk about it. I’ve made this mistake in the past. this video and the sentiment behind it are steeped in homophobia. it’s one thing to go to a content creators page to see if they’re in a relationship with someone else. however, taking the time to create entire videos discussing, or trying to sus if said creator is a “girlie pop” or not just plays into the constant hyper vigilance and scrutiny queer people face every day. yes, this creator used a fake relationship to draw views in; he’s allowed to (it’s his dating life), and his audience is also allowed to be curious about said dating life. but ultimately queer creators should be able to date who they want to date without the main question being their partner’s gender. this video feels like a subtle way of “reassuring” the straight audience that yes, he’s gay-gay, don’t worry, you weren’t wrong. i wish this video instead would have looked at why it matters so much to an audience if a creator is strictly a “girlie pop” (i can’t get over that stupid phrase used in the video) or if they’re bi, bc it’s normal to be curious, but true support for the queer community means moving towards conversations that don’t center on demanding that a content creator divulge to their audience their sexuality at any and all times. especially bc videos like this, that seem harmless bc the conclusion is, “ya he’s gay, we were right all along” (which other commenters have rightfully pointed out, is still an assumption), run the risk of forcing a creator to out themselves.
