Hiya Folks! My friend Votgaus and I have been working on this for a while now, he finished it up recently and I figured I'd put it out here whilst I recover from chemo! (Recovery is going very well at this point by the way, first few days were pretty abysmal as one might expect but I'm starting to feel more normal again now, so excited to get out into the world and back to making things asap!) Also an immense thank you to everyone for all the wonderful supportive comments on my previous video. I shall be responding to aaaaall of them when I'm a bit stronger! I hope you enjoy this collaborative project. It's quite different compared to my normal videos but I reckon the incredible work of Mr. Votgaus deserves to be appreciated!
This video was a bloody ripper, fair dinkum, really thought this was one of your best. Anyway wishing you the very best with a speedy recovery, she’ll be right Mate cheers from down under 🇦🇺, oh no pun intended, looking forward to your next video. Keep smiling 👍.
Good to hear you are recovering well from chemo. This video is a great inspiration for (film-)photography, even though it can be a pain in the butt. Last shooting I talked the model into going in the water with a suite...Had huge light leaks over 1/3 of the frame :D Keep ya head up and speedy recovery :)
I'm so happy that things are looking up man! We're glad you're doing better. I hope you get to shoot as much meaningful work as you want, and that your health continues to improve by the day. Thank you for everything you've done for the community, and thank you for being the awesome person that you are, man. When I first met you, I had no idea how you would inspire me or how you'd ignite my creative fire. Thanks, Will. Genuinely.
IMO, this was so much more insightful for those starting out on their photography journey (and quite frankly, for those “experienced” who’ve been chasing IG BANGERS and trends) than most creators on this platform recommending “top whatever photography hacks and tips” have ever done. Hope you’re on a straight path to recovery, dude.
Ah thank you Anthony I really appreciate that! It’s essentially edited down and refined from a zoom call Votgaus and I had where I just answered prompts for questions he’d put together as someone interested in the medium himself, so I reckon that strategy lent some authenticity to the end result since it all came from the heart! Thank you so much for the kind words on recovery as well, hopefully it’s all smooth sailing from here on!
The credits of this video go this time not to you William but to the masterful motion graphic artist who produced this great work. So kudos to Votgaus.
This was awesome! The things you said are very valuable to the art of photography in general! I hope this video finds many people who are new to photography! It will really give them a good jumping off point
Dang this was so sick. "I take pictures that interest me because they have to survive such a long process" is such a raw line. Also cool that you got the bee tat! "From nothing to a photo to a tattoo" cheers mate!
Thank you kindly Mr. Fingers! The animation is so absurdly good I've spotted something new and wonderful every time I've rewatched it haha! Votgaus the GOAT!
@@willysheepskin Most definitely!! Once you're back to 100%, perhaps I should plan a trip to Cape Town and we could make some vids and photos together :)
I just wish more folk would look at photography this way and not just chasing the latest gear in the hope that it will improve their photography. After all, technology just makes it easier to take a bad photograph. I get far more personal satisfaction from producing images on my 67, my 66 and my 645 film cameras than I do with any of my digital gear. Good to hear you are on the mend.
"I just try to make photographs that excite me, cause they need to survive such a long process." - It almost accurately describes some of the feelings I have working in the medium and how it compels me to go out to make photographs. It is also great to hear someone describe what it is about film that makes it worthwhile.
I’m glad that bit resonated with you Jan! Was quite chuffed I finally found a way to put that sentiment of mine into words haha, it really is a great way to stoke up continued inspiration from within as well!
You are one talented and genuine guy William. Even if you showcase technical aspects of the photographic process, the whole video strikes me emotively. Wishing you a good recovery from recent events. You give and share so much. We cannot afford to lose you.
Good to have news you're feeling a bit better. Cool collaboration with Votgaus. As always, beautifully edited, narration perfect, informative and lovely
Absolutely loved this video! I work at Kiwi Camera Service in Orlando, FL and I have the privilege to educate people who are new and excited about the possibility of shooting film. (We are a much more homey and inviting shop, so we take our time) I have been telling everyone to go and watch your videos and this one is going to get so much love! Thank you for making this video!!
Easily the best animated photo related video I’ve ever seen lol. Story was well put together and the animation was such a great addition. This needs to blow up for sure 🔥👌🏼👌🏼
Ahahaha I’d totally use the catchphrase if I ever had reason to give a Ted Talk lol! Thanks a bunch though Victor, hopefully some of the advice proves useful!
This video is my go to for inspiration when I'm not feeling particularly creative or motivated to take photographs. Absolutely love it. Hope you are doing well William.
What an amazing collab! Although different, I think it matches your style very well. This video was beautifully crafted, yet somehow authentically raw. The animation & sound design was stunning and paired perfectly with the narration. Its great to hear you are handling everything well. Keep raising the bar, and continue inspiring others!
Thanks so much Julian! Votgaus did such a great job of it matching my style for sure! Was so fun noticing some of the little editing details he threw in and realising they could be calls to the way I do stuff as well! I hope to continue doing just that!
This video is great, love the graphics. I agree, a negative is too important so that’s why I don’t develop at home. I get the negatives, scan them at home and from there decide what to print in my ragtag homemade darkroom where I’ve been teaching myself to print ra4 then from there i scan the 8x10 print to a stupidly big file size and that’s my final image. Long process but so rewarding. I recently discussed this with a friend and he believes anyone who isn’t printing, doesn’t have the right to romanticise film and claim they love it’s “tangible” quality. Hot take! Anyway, from Scotland I’m wishing you ‘goeie gesondheid’ as you continue your battle. You’ll come out the other side a stronger version of yourself.
I literally discovered Votgaus 2 days ago and was amazed by the animation as well. I thought he took the audio from one of your videos but so cool that it was a collaboration! Insane that he only has 50 subs, hope that changes with this shoutout.
He’s awesome hey! I think if he focused on growing an audience he’d be huge in no time haha! I think he mainly uses the socials as a portfolio of sorts, but would have to ask him actually haha! Worth subbing to him either way just see some more brilliant animation haha!
your photos have so much ease and wonder to them, bringing them together in this beautifully animated video was such a treat to watch. Love your work! :)
Thank you so much for this video, I believe it is the best photography related video I have seen in a long time in terms of being both informative and appealing. I think many people who are new to photography will be able to make better decisions because of this video, it is beautifully crafted and I think it deserves much more reach. Please keep on sharing videos like this with us.
NGL that animation of a book got me excited for one day man. This was absolutely amazing man 👏 your points are all so well considered and articulated. Also the bee is one of my favourite shots of your as well.
Ahaha maybe sometime soon I’ll get to work on the book vibe actually seems like a good time to start thinking about it haha! Every frame of it is a work of art hey! So much of it just had my jaw on the floor as I got to see it!
This was an awesome collab Will, Votagus did a great job with the flow and rhythm of it, and you killed it with the insights. Hope you're feeling a bit better buddy.
Wow one of the best videos I've seen on CZcams in awhile! Amazing work by both of you, the animation was incredible and photos of course are always wonderful. Hope your feeling better from chemo soon.

Glad to hear you’re doing well!!
I have only heard chemo is a biatch and a half man, but I’m glad you normalising and feeling good again! Bless up and take care of those dangly bits.
This video was a bloody ripper, fair dinkum, really thought this was one of your best. Anyway wishing you the very best with a speedy recovery, she’ll be right Mate cheers from down under 🇦🇺, oh no pun intended, looking forward to your next video. Keep smiling 👍.

Shoot digital for business, shoot film for your soul. Nothing else to add.
A strong strategy for sure!
Casually dropping what could be the best produced video on analog photography in a very long time 🙂. It’s an awesome work.
IMO, this was so much more insightful for those starting out on their photography journey (and quite frankly, for those “experienced” who’ve been chasing IG BANGERS and trends) than most creators on this platform recommending “top whatever photography hacks and tips” have ever done. Cheers Reimann! I hope so too haha! The glorious efforts of Mr. Votgaus deserve to be seen!!
Wow, this might be my favourite photography video, ever! Amazing job.
Dang this was so sick. "I take pictures that interest me because they have to survive such a long process" is such a raw line. Also cool that you got the bee tat! "From nothing to a photo to a tattoo" cheers mate!
"I need to make photographs that excite me, because they need to survive such a long process" this is magic.
