He is, as a host of the most popular show and co-owner of Armada, one of those responsible for killing good old trance and promoting big room crap. Wouldn't need to cry if he supported real trance.

I'm actually convinced that only people who can truly get "lost" in music really truly understand and appreciate trance. Some people just don't get why anyone would get emotional over a dance song, but if you get it, you get it.

Ive watched armin ever since I was 21. I was a tad late on hes climb to the top but 14 years later and the passion for him as a procurer/dj has only gotten stronger! He brings pasion,emotion,heart to everything he touches! The greatest dance producer that we will see in our lifetime! Read the interview following this and he said it was because he was in his home town where his career started, he seen 2 girls in tears on the front row crying their eyes out (in the moment) and he filled up, he even apparently said to them ‘please don’t cry’ because he knew he’d start. The rest is Trance history 😁🤙🏻
His home town is in Netherlands, in the video is Untold Festival in Cluj, Transylvania, Romania. He cried also 2 years prior to this in the same place. I was there and he said that these days the Djs are playing for 1-2 hours and at Untold he can play for how many hours he wants and he can play what loves the most, the trance music. The people in Romania, really loves the trance and Armin, so for him it's something magical to have a crowd for 6 hours listen to you and stay in that state of trance for so long. He also had one of his first concert in Romania with 2000 people, so he was emotional about how far he is now.

.... last time I checked Armins home town was in Leiden, NL. Pretty sure the crying was down to the fact that the song he was playing was a tribute by RAM for his wife who passed away very unexpectedly that year......
Now let me tell you a little story here you non-believers.
In the end of 80's Armin has started his dj career in a little romanian village called 'Glod' (where Borat movie was taken). He was making mixes out of romanian gipsy music and sold it to Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Uzbekistan gypsy camps, and later these mixes got recognized in Netherlands. Armin had a nice brown romanian horse back then and he rode it all the way from Romania to Leiden, Netherlands as he was invited to spin some vinyls with these songs. Van Buuren has made some authentic gypsy music that was never heard before and transformed it into a stylishly made arrangement of songs. All of this was done with putting some 'trancy' effects on the original attributes of so typical gypsy music and songs. Later on the dutch gypsies really liked Armin and he became the king of gypsy society in Netherlands.
Once upon a time, Jean Michelle Jarre had noticed Armin's beautiful brown horse (named Curvamaro) and then came to Armin, so they've made friends. Later on Armin heard Jean's and Kraftwerk electronic music and than the rest remains the history - Armada was created, as AR=Armin, MA=roMAnia, and DA="datina" which means "tradition" in romanian (he was still riding a horse and didn't buy a car to stay true to his gypsy roots and to remain popular amongst the Romas society).
