    I like the solo. Sounds exactly like it should, an alien. As for the length of the song, I am so glad it's not divided. Sometimes I'll shuffle songs. In that case, I wouldn't get to hear the whole song. After 40 years of playing guitar and being stuck in my 90's grunge, I've finally found a band that offers something very new to me. In a few months, they've become one of my favorites.

    I've been in the periphery only stream cycle for like 5 months now, and Reptile is a behemoth of a song. To listen, to learn, to play. I absolutely love that it is 16 mins long (their longest song to date), and I just don't see it being cut anywhere that works. The whole thing feels like a movie, with the strings intro, the "closing chapter" you mentioned, like it feels like a climax of some sort, and the instrumental coda (the synth one) feels like it's telling you to come down from wherever the h you where, which is very bold considering this is an opener and the next song is Blood Eagle (highly recomend, it's a great utilization of "gojira scrapes"). I'm loving your reactions, just came to this channel today, and this was a serious undertaking. Looking forward to more reactions in the future, and I highly recommend you listen to the song again on your own soon before you listen to Garden in the Bones. Cheers

    This song is a masterpiece and an epic musical jouney! To see them play this live is an experience.
    I think the "long ass song" 😂 format gives it a theatrical feel. Would love to see someone adapt this to a full metal musical.
    Great reactions! New subscriber.
    Periphery has just an amazing catalog of songs and some of my current favs are Ragnarok, Stranger Things and Wax Wings.

    This song is absolutely a masterpiece, as for the solo, I think you'll find it grows on you with each and every listen. I'm not sure what it is but I call it the "Periphery Effect". As for the A7x Songs you were talking about, the ones that come to mind are Buried Alive or A Little Piece of Heaven. Hope you react to more Periphery! And the long ass outro is a common reoccurrence. Because the songs are flowing into one another on the album, they put these pieces of palette cleansers in between.

      @@DaddyGoose_CB the last chapter of Reptile is explored on Garden in the Bones, very melodic, not too crazy. Satellites is a must if you need to hear Spencer go up like an angel and down like a wounded ox.

    I love the solo but I agree to some extent that they drag it out a bit. however on the album this is the first song and the bits at the end are references to songs later on in the album. I like how they did that coz its kinda like a whole journey with the story. also the end contrasts with the next song's opening (Blood Eagle) and it hits so fucking hard - if you haven't listened to that yet I highly recommend it. loved the reaction tho I always love seeing people react to it for the first time.

    • @DaddyGoose_CB
      @DaddyGoose_CB  Před rokem +1

  • @lasagnasux4934
    @lasagnasux4934 Před rokem +3

    Honestly, don't know why periphery didn't split the song at Mikee Goodman's part (the speaking part), but they didn't so whatever. However, I'm a firm believer that if there's a long instrumental that leads into the next song out should be a separate piece, but if it isn't it belongs at the beginning of the next song.
    If i have a Playlist i don't want a banger song with a 5 minute orchestral piece at the end of it that I'm just going to skip anyways. Even if i like the orchestral piece, if I'm in a metal mood, I'm in a metal mood.

    Were you thinking of Exist by Avenged maybe? Another proggy, spacey, looooooong-ass song. In In your Zagreus video you said it was "avenged meets simple plan plus one other band" and I'd throw in Meshuggah as that other band, for the insane heavy riffage, cuz I absolutely understood the other comparisons in Zagreus. Also, the Rize of the Fenix (and maybe City Hall?) Tenacious D comparisons with storytelling are funny but not inaccurate.
    Anyways, this song is a god damned masterpiece. When I first got into them, I think I just started with the newest album at the time, Periphery IV, and this is the opening track. So it was one of the first songs I heard, and I remember I kept going "oh this part is cool, what song is this?" and then realizing it was still the same god damn song 😂So I can't say I liked it right off the bat, I was still getting into them and had their music on while I did other things, and this one took a second for me to really pay attention to and give a proper listen. Most Periphery tracks are "this is pretty cool" on first listen, and then "holy shit I love this" on subsequent listens, and Reptile was no different. But then, this one became an all-time fav track by anyone.
    I'm totally with you about being in love with Spencer's voice, he's swiftly became one of my favorite vocalists of all time. His screams are great; not always a style that I immediately click with, but every time he wins me over all over again. Obviously he's skilled, but really it's his choice of what kind of scream, when to use it, and the vocal inflections that just make it next f-ing level. And then there's his singing. I am one million percent with you when you said "his voice is just like music", and couldn't quite put it into words. Cuz there are times where his sung vocals have this sort of *je ne sais quai* or unquantifiable quality to them that just tickles my brain and eardrums. I don't know if its their choice of melody, maybe it's the harmonies, maybe its the vocal production (maybe they just have some sort of god-tier compression that adds perfect overtones?), but some melodies just *H I T* like nothing else. Two specific examples, aside from this song, would be Stranger Things (song came out before the show, so it's not a reference) and Catch Fire (pretty straight-forward song, honestly didn't land the first time I heard it, but I fell asleep listening to that record and woke up with my mind being BLOWN by the chorus of this song).

    • @JesusOfPaign
      @JesusOfPaign Před rokem +2

      And to make a long comment even longer, I totally see what you mean about splitting into parts like Lorna did, but I don't think that would feel right for the song. If there's a giant detailed landscape painting, it would seem weird to just split it into thirds if that wasn't part of the artist's original intent. What Lorna did made sense for a few reasons, imo. It was the title track and the most musically unique song on the record, so releasing it as a single w/ a video makes something of a statement about the album. Reptile wouldn't have made enough of a statement to justify releasing it as a single; it's not exactly the same as the other singles, but it's not wildly different. Plus, I don't think Reptile splits neatly into multiple parts, nor would those parts stand on their own the same way that Pain Remains does.
