- To celebrate the publication of 'Mother, Brother, Lover' -- Jarvis's first collection of lyrics -- on October 6 2011, Jarvis paid a visit to his secondary school, The City School in Sheffield. Performing on the stage that was the scene of Pulp's very first gigs, he treats the students to a rather memorable assembly, discussing his career and sharing some of his less successful early attempts at the form. Includes a live performance of 'Babies'. 'Mother, Brother, Lover' is out now: bit.ly/nMdmNx

They better know who that man there is. I would be so proud to be listening to him there. The last time my school had a guest speaker it was a Chief policeman talking about how you shouldn't drink and drive, it wasn't a brilliant pop star like Jarvis.
Nice of Jarvis to dress up as his old geography teacher on a visit to his old school.
😂
i can't help but feel secondhand embarrassment for jarv when he plays shakespeare rock and the schoolkids laugh at him lmaooo
4.34 the last person to take out the book was called Deborah, Deborah.
He has the sweetest smile - really someone worth listening to (and not just when he´s singing ;-DD) Thanks for posting!
A lovely perceptive man, very good observations on life and individual worth. Thanks for uploading this.
The girl at 4:45 (in the grey top) is priceless! She's looking at Jarvis with a mixture of confusion, disgust and hatred!! LOL!!!! Jarvis definitely elicited a reaction right there! LOL!!
A comic/tragic moment
How do they keep quiet during 'Babies' ? I would have lost my shit if someone came to my school and started singing about spying on your friend's sister.
i feel like they don’t understand the gravity of the cultural phenomena that is jarvis cocker. i want him to visit me !
fame lasts a little while but life goes on and so the memories God Bless him x
Great to see Jarvis giving back to hi sold school. Unfortunately my old school in Sheffield, ashliegh, was flattened (quite rightly too).
This video had a little surpise for me too. The person to have the book before Jarvis is my cousin!
Deborah, Deborah?
Richard Michie I remember Ashleigh school up Gleadless, I went to City bit Jarvis left the year I started. Know a few of his friends from that time though
what I wouldn’t give right now to have been born in Sheffield..
I was!
But I went to school in Barnsley.
Spent many of my Saturdays during my teen years in Sheffield as it had better record shops than Barnsley. Sadly, I never saw Pulp. But Jarvis's words resonate with me like no other songwriter.
The sense of humor was evident along with melodies.
He's wonderful 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍✒️
I wish I was a pupil at that school just for one day so I could be the only one there singing babies!!!
Mike Winn I went to the same school as Jarvis, City School, Stradbroke Sheffield. Now called Outwood Academy. Sadly Jarvis left the year I started but we did both live in Intake
This was brilliant.
I'm crying
A heady nostalgia for 1973 and 1995 combined - it's a winning synthesis that will have mass appeal to the "market." Congrats.
really that is my schoolxx omg i'm there xx
Oh the irony. Pulp were one of the first big bands I saw (Sheffield Arena '96). I like Jarvis and his music. But one of the first songs I wrote lyrics to was Let It Go. Sometimes progression isn't as linear as one assumes. I had one live performance under my belt also at Secondary school and I proudly own it as my Spinal Tap moment. We hadn't even performed with a drummer before. Go for it, the worst that happens is you call on your arse.
Babies ❤️✌🏻️
Fucking legend
I left this school in 98
6:04 reminds me of the Babies video.
look at the girls faces at 4.30
can just tell that them little gits don't appreciate who he is
Some didn't, but I see a lot of faces that are fascinated. Please don't generalise.
I think a couple of those young girls didn’t want to to be filmed- you can see them cringe when they make eye contact with the camera 😂
@@whssy yes quite a lot of them look interested and they laugh at his self deprecation about “Life is a Circle” 😂
When I came around to call you didnt notice me at all..... so I stole some books!
me
lol
why are you all calling us chavs and all that crap i go to that school and we respect&no who he is were not thick!
*know *we're. C-
Imagine
It's funny seeing the picture of Obama, since Jarvis is infinitely cooler.
They're not all chavy gits. -_-
Well, you might want to check your grammar and use of punctuation before you state that you're not thick!
A Common Person riding First Class.
who is this man again?
god
A man who will be poet laureate one day, if there is any justice.
And who should be the next prime minister.
Amazing
Not a fan of Jarvis but he wrote a few decent songs.
bored
Ok
