- In this video, I have explained about the fully automatic transfer switch (ATS) for single phase system.
A transfer switch (ATS) is an electrical switch that switches a load between two sources. An Automatic Transfer Switch is often installed where a backup generator is located, so that the generator may provide temporary electrical power if the utility source fails.
When utility power is interrupted, the automatic transfer switch immediately senses the problem and signals the generator to start. Afterward, it detects when the utility power is returned, the automatic transfer switch retransfer to the utility power and turn off the generator.
If you have any questions about the Automatic changeover switch, please comment below the video. I will answer your questions.

Thankyou sir for nice informative tutorial more power satin mga ka electrical.
If the generator does not have an AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) I would incorporate a Delay Timer.
Thank you for the well explained illustration 👏
tell me an AC generator without an AVR? And the point of a delay timer to take the place of an AVR? Any AC generator without regulation will suffer high unregulated voltage.
@@mickuljatheseagull t
There is capacitor controlled voltage regulation. But still whould put a delay in so the generator doesn’t start immediately.
You show us step by step and even the connection inside the contactor. you do great, clearly understandable very specific its so nice
Thank you for the well explained illustration
Awesome. Thank you for this tutorial on the ATS.
VERY GOOD DESCRIPTION AND WIRING
Thanks for sharing it with us

great Work
good work I saved 3500etb by your diagram thanks a lot
Thanks for watching ❤👍
nice animation explanation
Beautiful diagram
Thank you.❤👍
You have electrical interlock between contactors, that is good. I would also have mechanical interlock between the contactors.
Better still is have a set of N/O and N/C contacts on the contactor.
Then its very simple to do change over.
Nice 👍 job
I think is better to install a timer switch 3Second at least [ delay ON ] this timer will control a Utility magnet contactor and relay to avoid interaction between generator and utility power.
Awesome sir
Thank you..❤❤👍
Very good 😊
Nice sir I like ur video

@@slengineeringacademy2234 Better answer to the interesting remarks that are made in the comments about the dangers of this diagram, and the need for time relay that creates time between break and make. And make some changes in your video or remove it please.

This is a nice video tutorial for those electricians who doesn’t know much about this one like me uhm brother is it an automatic type of switch? When the main supply is off then the generator will it start automatically?? Thanks bro 👍👍
Lots of time delay comments which I agree with but the elephant in the room is the 5 pin relay, if that failed the gen will start , collide with utility and then you’re going to need a new one. Great concept, just needs fine tuned.
It’s weird setup. Seems flawed. I would hook up power companies contractor directly to its own coil instead and leave everything else the same. When power fails generator contractor will be allowed to close. As long as power company supplies power generator contractor can’t close, whether generator is on or off.
Wait, it seems that they both can’t close at the same time. What I don’t like is, it doesn’t automatically transfer back to power grid when power comes back. My way is better.
So, it just hit me that when power company comes back on the signal to the relay stops and the generator turns off. It will automatically transfer back to power company. There’s nothing wrong with this setup.
Thanx!
Supper worke
Thank you.❤👍
nice video...
Thank you..❤👍
should be installed ON DELAY/Timer on the genarator contactor so that the AVR of
the genarator will not damage immediately
They use interlocks.
very interesting
Thank you.❤👍
thank you very much for this video it's the solution for automatic changeover
Thank you..👍❤
So nice
Very informative presentation.please let me know the software/apps you used in your presentation.
Thanks
Welcome
Thanks for Education video. Appreciate it🙏👍
Thank you.❤👍
nice video
ល្អgood
Thanks..❤❤👍
I think the idea would be better if u change the single generator for another power source already regulated with more stable current. This way this prtotype should be working well.
Takes me back to 1985 when I introduced auto shore/generator change-over on our marine switch panels. Live back then was far simpler with regs, two pole 30 amp 240 VAC relay with coil wired to gen contacts. Start gen, when voltage came up it would close contacts and select gen, stop gen it returns to mains supply. Or you could wire to select mains if mains became available, otherwise gen supply was available.
Like the graphics.

Good
Bravo. Thank you!
Thanks for Watching.❤❤👍
Merci
Great
Thank you..❤👍
Do not make an ATS without mechanical interlock and timer. Once the utility power fails the generator start signal to be given after a time delay. Mechanical interlock to be provided between the power contactor , we cannot rely on electrical interlock, its dangerous.
How can mechanical interlock be achieved
@@augustinechika3881 Mechanical interlocks are available from the power contactor suppliers.
Vu
Exactly! For additional safety.. good point
Yes must use interlock magnetic contactor, I'll always use this when I'm doing auto generator
help ful and good video but circuit diagram add this video all people best help ful
Thank you..❤👍
Thanks sir

Cool
great learning but im thinking about the two circuit breaker w/c is at ON position there might be some safety issue. please enlighten.
beautiful video could you tell me what's the name of the software that you are using please
Super
Thank you.❤👍
You are correct but you need to add one more contactor and replay delay timer to the supply to d b
Thanks you.❤👍
Bro you could post share a picture for the connection please??

Far simpler is to use a DPDT relay feeding the desired load, with the coil driven by the generator. Generator not running, power delivered to load through NC contacts, generator delivers through NO contacts (Load is on COM contacts). Fully automatic and completely isolated and functions on generator start/run only.
Absolutely right, but the DPDT just work for the 1ph case
Good luck
2 time relays should be installed in this system to prevent the phases from colliding.thank you.
Do you mean an on-delay to make sure when the power comes back it turns off the generator and then this timer ⏲ counts let’s say 2 seconds to turn on the contractor from the energy company?
Yes
Needs adding if you dont want a fire..
Very cleAr
Thank you❤👍❤
WHICH SOFTWARE YOU USE TO ANIMATE YOUR LESSONS
Generators nowadays have their own Auto Transfer Switch (ATS) installed in every unit if so required by the owner but its a must to have it so the load change over will take smoothly, easy with the convenience of the people in the building and the maintenance crew for their operation.

One phrase sums it all up: Hold open
The first time you have a chance at the top is the second one I just got to go in and do the second and third and I don’t have a lot to say but I’m going in to get a little more info about it so if I can 😮
Very nice. Do we have a layout with 3 phase 380v gen. for household use with mechanical interlock. All today ATS boards have installed an ATM (automatic control module) that regulate the time for the start and the preheat and other functions (output current,Amp, etc )
Just copy the above and make it 4 pole
L1
L2
L3
N
So basically copy above but have a 4 pole relay interlocked (expensive thou)
Great 👍 job. But I have a question ❓ my question is this: this five pin relay would only start the gen but couldn't put it off, why? Pls modify it. Thanks
No, the idea is good but it does not work for commercial standard gasoline or diesel generators. The only way it works is for the generator to have the "Remote Start" option. A generator without "Remote Start" must consider a pulse for ignition and then bring the ignition coil to ground for shutdown. The ignition coil cannot be kept energized because the starter motor will burn out. And if the ignition coil is not grounded, the generator will only stop due to lack of fuel. I don't know of any generator for home use with the Remote Start option.
Good but there is to be corrected: we must normally turn off the power supply to the starter after starting the generator group either by a speed detector
Please what video editor did you use>
great video by the way.
I am so interested in your show
Thank you very much.❤👍
Well explained thank you. What if its a solar and you dont have that generator stator connection?Yet you want to work the same
Thanks for watching and your significant comment..👍
Yes it work on solar too. But it need AC supply
Will work on a solar inverter that works on island mode..basically an inverter that is happy without a grid..
What software did you use to make the pictorial diagram sir.?
