Initiated by Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies in Congress, Sampung Libong Pag-Asa was launched amid their push for the "10K Ayuda Bill" in the House of Representatives. This bill aims to provide each Filipino family with a one-time cash assistance of P10,000 or P1,500 per family member, whichever is higher, which they can use to buy food, pay for water and electricity, or start a small business.
One of the beneficiaries of Sampung Libong Pag-asa who received the cash assistance of P10,000 was Renan Lopez Lobo, a basketball coach from Sampaloc, Manila. He gave half of it to his young relative who has a medical condition, and split the other half between maintenance medication for his parents and investing it in an online business selling sports equipment.
