      I haven't seen what the advantages of NDI6 will be.

    Some hardware devices include the NDI license in the default price, some do not. It's up the manufacture on how they want to handle this.

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes it is, but it's up to the NDI org on the pricing, so on lower priced items,, the licensing fee is lower, so it can more easily be rolled into the product.

    It would be interestign to do a piece that compares SRT with NDI in terms of bandwidth requirements, latency, quality, reliability and of course cost - you pay for an NDI licence as it is proprietary but you don't pay for one for SRT and that means that big players like BlackMagic Deisgn are moving towards SRT and SMPTE ST 2110 but NOT NDI

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  Před 4 měsíci

      Those are very different tools. It'd be like comparing a pair of pliers, and a screwdriver. - they do different things.
      SRT is a "wrapper" (not a codec) designed to get the footage from point A to B, across the public internet, with resiliency.
      NDI is a codec(s) and a standard, for putting broadcast video on a local area network, and it also offers bi-directional communication for camera control, device control, communication, tally, coms, and more - none of which are possible with SRT.
      While NDI _can_ go around the world with NDI Bridge, it is built for the LAN.
      SRT is built to go around the world, not the LAN.
      circling back to SRT as a "wrapper"
      SRT can be used to send ProRes, etc + a bit more for the redundancy. so bandwidth is determined by the codec that SRT is wrapping.
      Latency is a user-defined setting to handle the challenges of your internet connection.
      Neither are appropriately compared with NDI which has neither capability.

      @billmew Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@StreamTeknology I get that one is a wrapper that works with codecs and another is an actual codec, but that ignores the practical reality which is that the way that these are implemented in systems from the Magewell Director Mini to vMix means that users face a straight forward choice between the two, so educating on the way that these verdors are actully making these alternatives available would be helpful

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  Před 4 měsíci

      @@billmew In my eyes, and each person can use technology as they see fit.
      SRT is designed to overcome the challenges of long rage transmission.
      NDI is designed for local area networks.
      Yes, the Director Mini can bring in both SRT and NDI. But that doesn't mean they're the same thing.
      The SRT can come from another city.
      NDI is 3 PTZ cameras in the same room.
      The Director Mini can also send SRT and NDI.
      The SRT goes to another city.
      The NDI goes to the stage floor monitor on the same ethernet cable the stage cameras are connected to.
      Now, someone _can_ use NDI Bridge to bring in NDI from a remote location, and then also use SRT for the camera at the stage,
      but IMHO, that's like using a pair of pliers to screw in, a screw.

    • @kanepeterson9775
      @kanepeterson9775 Před 4 měsíci

      Looking only at transmission, you are ignoring many other aspects of NDI.
      NDI has a built-in discovery process, with SRT you need to manually setup communication between devices. NDI supports aspects like alpha channel, tally, PTZ control, metadata, KVM and proxy/mezzanine compression options.
      SRT has a place and use, but there is more between these than transmission.@@StreamTeknology

    Great video! I never knew the frame delay for full NDI, thanks for that! Do you know what the frame delay is fro NDI-HX3 and its max bitrate for this H.265 codec?

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  Před 2 měsíci +1

      H265 can vary depending on the hardware doing the encoding, as it's more complex than H.264. And the max bitrate is a function of how it was coded on that hardware. The manufacturer can choose what the bitrate limits are. Like Mevo start lets you choose between 5 and 15 Mbits. A Birddog encoder lets you pick whatever bitrate you want. So there is no one answer.

    • @4sightfilmsLLC
      @4sightfilmsLLC Před 2 měsíci

      @@StreamTeknology You are awesome! Thank you for your clear and honest response. I had a Birddog NDI at one point but although it states compability with Mac computers. It surely was not. Lol. That might have changed now. I’m using a Kiloview NDI convertor and it was simple to configure. Would you say generally that the latency/delay on a NDI-HX3 encoder is less than, equal to, or more than a typical HDMI capture card?

      On a USB stick or SD card, PNG is the best type for GFX, because you can have an alpha channel.
