    Little Note From Me
    Hi everyone,
    I hope you're doing well. I find that I do my best and feel my best when I have my life "sorted" and one of the ways I keep it sorted is with google calendar. In this video I wanted to share how I set up and use my Google Calendar, how I input To Do Items and Due Dates, and how including Office Hours really improved my organisation when I was in undergrad (uni). I also share some tips on sharing your calendar and setting up notifications. I really hope it helps.
    If you're watching this video live then have some understanding with yourself - you don't have to be on the top of your game right now, it's okay to not be okay. But maybe setting some structure to your day will help you, maybe trying a new way to organise your life will feel like a fresh start.
    Stay Safe, Stay Kind.

    What I'm Grateful For
    As I write this I'm honestly just very grateful to be where I am. Even with everything going on in the world right now I don't think I'd choose to be anywhere else, yes I'm away from my family but we are safe. Yes classes are online but I'm studying Medicine. Yes there is a global crisis, but I'm studying to be in the field that can HELP.

    I've been doing something similar now for a long time. You one of the 1st though to go into details about using multiple calendars. I've done that but the hidden ones we'll that was a game changer. Going now to my calendar to separate a few things into new calendars lol. BTW using a calendar events for everything allows you to put notes in the description box. The notes come in handy for all kinds 9f things in I have a calendar I named Calls for all the calls with companies and such, the description box is where I put notes on the calls in who I talked to, reason for the call, and what the person said or did.

    Hi Emma, great video. 👌I have a question on meeting notes in google cal, which I believe was added quite recently. I have a few different calendars and in some of them it comes up as an option, but in most of them not. My main one is part of a corporate account, and my colleagues get it, but not me. I have tried to google it but didn't get any hits, suppose since it is rather new and questions were not yet gathered... any insight would be greatly appreciated🙏

    I feel very well-taken care of by this tutorial, Emma B. :)
    Like, I think can go organize my life with Google Calendar immediately,
    Even though I haven't been one to dive into calendar apps previously.
    Also, this video will probably be fun to watch in, say, 2033,
    On account of how much changes over time with technology.
    How much will Google Calendar change? How much will it be
    Able to stay timeless in its quest to keep all things timely?
    I'm not sure, but for the time being, I think it's absolutely neat to consider that there's potentially
    A CZcamsr with a social [media] calendar containing moments set aside to reply to comments personally. :D
    As a commenter, I try to write remarks worth reading, but there's an even greater sense of responsibility
    Knowing that someone might have scheduled reading and responding to comments as a priority,
    Such that they're doing it at a designated time to ensure that the interactions are of decent quality.
    [I know for channels with low interaction it might seem easy,
    But I once watched a BrainCraft video about her systematically
    Interacting to 75,000 comments just by setting aside time weekly
    So it's a concept where Google Calendar might come in real handy.]

That's really good that that creator is able to schedule their time to respond, I think it's really nice to try to reply to everyone who comments. Definitely shows the power of scheduling your time - you can accomplish a lot when you set aside the time to do it!

      Just getting into the habit of creating a formal weekly schedule (I'm in a far easier degree), and initially having hiccups sticking to it- What spurred you to start? was it out of necessity? Or a mystical capacity to get excited to complete coursework on your own?

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 3 lety

      I've always been a hyper diligent planner... My Mom had a colour coded fridge calendar for us as kids... so I think it started there haha 😂 so not a unique talent in anyway just was born into a Type A family and now I find I'm actually MORE stressed if I don't plan things out!
      In terms of sticking to course work... Discipline trumps motivation every time. So you have to find a way to be consistent do a little every day and then increase that "little" slowly. Often in uni we get course work that doesn't necessarily spark any interest so we will never be MOTIVATED to do it, but if we are disciplined we will get it done whether we have an urge to or not. That being said still also be disciplined about time for yourself - you'll never be interested in work if you're burnt out and exhausted.
      Pretty general advice but I hope it helps!

    Thanks for the useful ideas. I recently used Google Calendar from the Apple calendar. Its just easier to access it between different platforms. I don’t find the latest craze of digital planners too appealing when it comes to functionality, although they are attractive design wise. Do u use a tablet as well? The features I think on an App is not full.

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah! I was never a huge fan of the apple calendar (mostly because I started using google calendar before I had a macbook) so I've always just deleted the app and downloaded google 😅 I also like how it now can predict from my emails and automatically add meetings etc in.
      I do have an iPad that I use mostly like a laptop that's lighter to take to placement. I just use the google cal app there too.
      I agree - I've never been FULLY into digital planners. I just don't see how they are as portable from device to device. I did miss out on being able to make things as *pretty* as they could be in a digital planner but then I discovered I you can customise the colours of google calendar ... czcams.com/video/rlwAoU83TO0/video.html
      And now all my complaints have been solved!

    this was very helpful for class schedule. What I am trying to do is have my son enter his assignments in his google calendar while he is in class and put them in with a due date. I am suprised that Google has never been able to make a good agenda feature for this. Do you have any tips?

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 2 lety

      Hey! Yeah there's a lot of different ways to manage it I guess. Personally I put the due dates in as little red events and on my ToDoIst (which is another app - I have a couple videos on it czcams.com/video/CrIiNDO95UU/video.html and czcams.com/video/96ydrnBRPkY/video.html).
      But Google Does have Google Tasks - which is usually on the right hand side of google calendar if you're on the desktop site. It allows you to list each assignment as a task and give it a due date, you can even have "sub tasks" so if an assignment has checkpoints to meet each could be a sub task. I haven't used Google Tasks much because I like ToDoIst so much but it is an option!
      Hope that helps!

    In the end when you said dont share your to-do calendar bc it would make look busy all the time, does that mean that you would mark your to-do calendar as free and not busy? Is there another way to have the to-do be busy but not shown to others? Great video by the way!

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 3 lety

      I just never actually "share it" so others looking to schedule with me shouldn't see it at all - so I only send invites for people to see school/work and maybe life calendars (either in full or just as "busy) my Todo calendar just stays with me so people are still able to schedule meetings even if there is a ToDo Item there.
      BUT if you did share it you could have the setting to mark it as "free" and not busy you're absolutely right!
      Hope that explanation worked! It's so much easier to show not tell, but hope I'm helping!

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 3 lety +1

      Hmm I've never had to do this - as I don't often have to seek out meetings with other individuals. But just now when I tried I see what you're saying, it seems to me you can choose to view by day or week but not MORE than that so you'd have to flip through.
      But you can at least get it into week view in the top right. Hope that kind of helps - not a perfect solution though!

    When you turn on notifications from your computer does it automatically do that on your phone as well?

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 3 lety

      There's a couple layers to notifications.... so within the webpage you can set what you would like to receive notifications for (like which calendars or how long before an event etc) BUT you will still need to allow "push notifications" on your phone through your phones settings!
      I've found most of the time the default is to allow notifications from the app on your phone - but always good to double check!

    I’ll really appreciate it if you replied this message cause I’m so frustrated with this app. The part where you changed from Test Demo to School (at 4:32), for mine there’s no drop down menu for me to choose the calendar I want. So it’s stuck on the first calendar, like for yours that’s test demo. Please help me, if anyone also has an idea on how to fix this please let me know. Thank you.

    • @EmmaB_MD
      @EmmaB_MD  Před 3 lety +1

      When you first make a google calendar it only populates the first calendar (usually with the title of your name - ie. Test Demo) so when you start adding events it will only allow you to add to that calendar. The first step is to add a new calendar (like the School calendar). Starting at 2:33 I believe I start to explain this but I'll try to do so in text here. At 2:33 a pink circle will circle what I'm talking about in the bottom left on the screen. You should see a list of the calendars you have access to. In my video it is "My calendars: Test Demo, Birthdays, Reminders, Task" then a second list "Other calendars". Next to Other Calendars you will see a + sign. Click that and then select Create new calendar. Then you can title it whatever you are looking for (such as School) and it will appear in your drop down after that :). I hope that makes sense!
