I picked up my first fantasy game book in 1984 and didn’t put them down again for about 10 years. Even now at aged 47, I still like to pick one up occasionally and delve right into an adventure. When my own children were little, I introduced them to FF and they ask became fans and I gave them the collection I had was I was kid. FF is timeless and will be just as enjoyable to kids today as they were nearly 40 years ago.
Nice. I'm hoping to introduce my girl to them at some point in the future
Of special note: the four-part "Sorcery" series that also included its own magic book; you had to actually memorize the spells before playing, as you were not allowed to have access to the magic book once you started.
In this series, events that occur in one book often affect events in a subsequent book; in one particular case, something you find early on in Book 1 doesn't get used until near the end of Book 4!
I have the standalone spell book for that series :)
Good old FF. Warlock of Firetop Mountain was my gateway to the board/war gaming drug that still has an unshakeable grip on me today.
Me too. I started with choose your own adventures, then Fighting Fantasy and from there into D&D, Battletech, Blood Bowl and Space Hulk.
We had a remarkably similar path. I started with FF, then Battletech, Space Crusade, and then just kept going and never looked back.

I have always been curious about tabletop rpgs but never had the time and patience or friends to play a campaign. But I just played a digital game of Deathtrap Dungeon and finally finished the first of the 3 games. Quite enjoyed it.

I encounter these books for being interested in fantasy but at the same time it was difficult to understand from nothing so I'm very pleased with this introductory video!!
My first book was Rebel planet back in 1987 and it remains one of my favourites. The 5 I recommended to start with a 5 of the best in my opinion, but my actual top 5 would be
Deathtrap Dungeon, Rebel Planet, Robot Commando, Creature of Havoc and Spellbreaker.
My favourite was Starship Traveller. I loved playing that one with my friends!
Some others in the top five would be Forest of Doom, Deathtrap Dungeon, Citadel of Chaos and House of Hell... which actually scared the bejeesus out of me.
Great books. Traveller was not one of my favs as a kid, but its grown on me. Citadel and FoD are both really good entries, and House of Hell is a top 10 for me as well.
I have only played 4 of them, in the following order
1. The Warlock of Firetop Mountain
2. The Forest of Doom
3. The Citadel of Chaos
4. Deathtrap Dungeon.
I just got the Deathtrap Dungeon on last Christmas and I'm watching this video after Medusa made me a rock
Deathtrap Dungeon is tough, definitely the hardest of the 4 there
Vault of the Vampire is my fav in the series. The map was well thought and and the enemies and objectives were extremely rewarding. Death Trap Dungeon was good but that objective of needing three specific gems was harsh.
Vault was pretty cool, the sequel Revenge of the vampire is a bit of a mess though.

They definitely did the books in Spanish translations, but no idea if anyone imported them to Uruguay.
However, they are still in print, and the most recent one "the gates of death" just got released

Interesting choice, as the Crimson Tide is a very odd FF book, especially with its opening as you as a kid.
There’s a fighting fantasy app on iOS. That’s how I found it last year. I downloaded it because it reminded me of the choose your own adventure books from my childhood. I never knew these books existed! I lived in bubble. I missed d&d, magic the gathering and these awesome gems.
Good stuff. FF was how I got into board games and RPGs. This was my gateway into everything else.
Thanks for this! I had a ton of these when I was a kid but I sadly got rid of them as I got older. I only have the Sorcery! series and a couple of others left. But this inspired me to get on eBay and get a group of books again! I was curious what folks have used to keep track of the choices they made previously? When I was a kid I just cheated but I won't do that now. Do you mark in pencil which choice you made and choose the other when you get back to that location on second, third, etc play throughs?

I had the full series but my mum dumped all away in 2018.
The first six titles have been translated into Dutch. I had those as a kid. I remember one getting nicked by a classmate of my brother. I'll see if I can dig the remaining ones up at my parent's house.
On the Fighting Fantasy facebook group, people have been sharing different language covers and versions. Its amazing how wide spread the series was.
These were huge in New Zealand. My Mum worked for Scholastic so I got em for free!
I would have been so jealous of you. I loved getting those scholastic pamplets at school and begging my folks for books. I was around at one of my friends place and his tama had one and it brought back a lot of memories

Its criminal that they changed thr front cover art. Nothing beats the aestehtics of thr originals with green backs and spines.
