Soc was Dan's inner self, his inner voice telling him the right thing, and that he should not procrastinate now from the past or future, the author just gave Soc the role as to being Dan's inner self expressed in person

Actually Socrates did exist and he was a real person in the movie, in the novel and also in real life. His real name was Sergei Ivanov, he was russian and he was Dan's great grandfather, they met when Dan was in college and Socrates trained him. Dan Millman wrote a book called The Journeys of Socrates, he based that book on a journal Socrates gave him when they said goodbye, it's in the novel Way of the peaceful warrior, Socrates was 96 when they met, he lived around 105 years. Grettings!

i've always wanted to see a movie that deal with that things, since i read Carlos Castaneda's books. Very good movie! Nick Nolte is like the Don Juan in this great movie.

@ghodium Is the book really good? I have just read Way of the peaceful warrior by Dan Millman. "The journeys of Socrates" sounds interesting. I have been thinking about reading it.

I do not read books much but these dan millmans books are interesting. I think i must have this book so that I finally read something and not just watch TV. Though I have now Lord of the rings trilogy to read, never read it before. I think it may be somewaht as interesristing as Journeys of Socrates
