In this lecture, Florian Zabransky (PhD candidate at the Weidenfeld Institute's Centre for German-Jewish Studies at University of Sussex, UK) will discuss his research exploring the recurring theme of intimacy in the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive's oral history interviews. Excavating the intimate experiences of male Jews during the Holocaust, he focuses on how intimacy is narrated and discussed in the interviews and analyzes the relationships, social dynamics, gender roles, hierarchies, and power relations at play. He reflects on the ways in which examining male Jewish intimacy adds new perspectives to our understanding of the Holocaust.
