Jackie sang this song very well, but I was not prepared for the content of the video. It left me with a knot in my stomach because, I knew it was not going to be accepted well by a lot of her fans. From her debut performances of Puccini, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Francesco Sartori to her crossover into pop, this young lady draws deep into an emotional conduit that can not be described. There is little in her repertoire that does not plunge deep into the listener's soul and bring out an emotional upwelling. When I saw Ms. Evancho perform Puccini's Nessum Dorma I realized I was experiencing history.

It's amazing that this song has already had an impact on a family who is facing a very similar situation. I just happened to show the video to a friend and co-worker. The next day she asked me to explain the meaning behind the video, then asked me to send her the video link. Later on that same day after I had sent her the link, I asked her if she enjoyed the video. Her somewhat heavy-hearted response was that she loved the video, but she wanted the video and back story so she could share it with a very close friend whose family is confronting this same situation with their child, and she is hoping to help them through the use of the story and Jackie's video. This simply blows me away! Hopefully there will be some updates to follow.

This is perhaps the most important, the most deeply enriching, the most endearing musical work, in this genre, I have ever heard, and if this is any indication of Ms. Evancho's future of amazing recordings, I might have to say……….none might ever eclipse such an EPIC, angelic and yet firmly rooted human vocalist ! I ask myself after years of continuing to praise this young superstar, when will my accolades reach their limit…….and I must say……….never……Never…..NEVER….I actually feel rather at odds with stating such overwhelming emotional comments for a young gal not as old as my daughter. But these are not accolades for a particular aged performer, instead they are for an ageless wonder of such grace and presence no time limitations or similar parameters can be applied. Actually, Jackie has sung only 3 opera arias that she recorded at age 10. She is a classical crossover artist, having recorded in several different genres....classical, classic pop, movie themes, Christian, symphonic metal, jazz, R&B, Broadway, contemporary pop and folk. She has not become a pop singer. shakakaun1 Nope. Jackie referred to it as sort of a Hanna Montana moment. 2 people that are different but the same...much like the kid in the video looking at his reflection I imagine. She has mentioned a possible upcoming duet with Placido Domingo as well as another with Bocelli. She also said she is in the middle of working on her next CD. I love her CC too but something like this is a nice changeup and her pop voice is just as beautiful. A little mix at her concerts is very welcome and personally I think I would love a hybrid cd from her. 2 of my favorite performances from her Awakening special besides that awesomely beautiful rendition of "Ave Maria" is her "Say Something" duet with Mr. Jackson (who is gay by the way) and "My Immortal".

From her debut performances of Puccini, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Francesco Sartori to her crossover into pop, this young lady draws deep into an emotional conduit that can not be described. There is little in her repertoire that does not plunge deep into the listener's soul and bring out an emotional upwelling.
When I saw Ms. Evancho perform Puccini's Nessum Dorma I realized I was experiencing history.

It's amazing that this song has already had an impact on a family who is facing a very similar situation. I just happened to show the video to a friend and co-worker. The next day she asked me to explain the meaning behind the video, then asked me to send her the video link. Later on that same day after I had sent her the link, I asked her if she enjoyed the video. Her somewhat heavy-hearted response was that she loved the video, but she wanted the video and back story so she could share it with a very close friend whose family is confronting this same situation with their child, and she is hoping to help them through the use of the story and Jackie's video. This simply blows me away! Hopefully there will be some updates to follow.

I am hoping that if nothing else, a communication channel was opened up between the teen and the parent(s), and that they are confronting it with some sense of understanding and compassion. The rest is truly up to them. I am still amazed that in my relatively small department/office, there was someone that not only related with the message, but wanted it to help out a friend who is struggling through the same thing. Kudos to Jackie, Sony and everyone else involved with the creation of this video.

Jackie Evancho has grown with this video among the ones who have something to say in this society.
This is perhaps the most important, the most deeply enriching, the most endearing musical work, in this genre, I have ever heard, and if this is any indication of Ms. Evancho's future of amazing recordings, I might have to say……….none might ever eclipse such an EPIC, angelic and yet firmly rooted human vocalist ! I ask myself after years of continuing to praise this young superstar, when will my accolades reach their limit…….and I must say……….never……Never…..NEVER….I actually feel rather at odds with stating such overwhelming emotional comments for a young gal not as old as my daughter. But these are not accolades for a particular aged performer, instead they are for an ageless wonder of such grace and presence no time limitations or similar parameters can be applied. Jacqueline Marie Evancho…….wherever you/she came from…….and thank God you came from somewhere… you have made all our lives better……beyond anything a simple bloke such as me can muster the words to elaborate upon!

Ed Sheeran is certainly one of the best writer performers of this new age, and I like that he is more a timeless type heroic folk spokesperson with the connection to any time or age. So amazing that Jackie made the transition from singing opera arias to pop music - her voice is hauntingly beautiful. She doesn't over power the tune - her voice sort of flows with it.
Actually, Jackie has sung only 3 opera arias that she recorded at age 10. She is a classical crossover artist, having recorded in several different genres....classical, classic pop, movie themes, Christian, symphonic metal, jazz, R&B, Broadway, contemporary pop and folk. She has not become a pop singer. shakakaun1 Nope. Jackie referred to it as sort of a Hanna Montana moment. 2 people that are different but the same...much like the kid in the video looking at his reflection I imagine. She has mentioned a possible upcoming duet with Placido Domingo as well as another with Bocelli. She also said she is in the middle of working on her next CD.
I love her CC too but something like this is a nice changeup and her pop voice is just as beautiful. A little mix at her concerts is very welcome and personally I think I would love a hybrid cd from her. 2 of my favorite performances from her Awakening special besides that awesomely beautiful rendition of "Ave Maria" is her "Say Something" duet with Mr. Jackson (who is gay by the way) and "My Immortal".

That does not convey to me that Jackie is giving up anything about her singing career. Apparently you don't comprehend Jackie's message in this video, unaware of the countless people inspired by it who's hearts have been filled with joy in appreciation of her compassion, empathy, and sincere concern for those castigated, humiliated, insulted and ostracized. Moreover, Jackie sings what inspires her in whatever genre she finds it. She is not "duty"-bound to sing only what the religious expect of her, those who would limit the "magnitude" of her talent. Jackie's message however is not "uttered" but delivered in the visual content. Those who have followed Jackie know this video is dedicated to her transgender sister and all transgender youth who have suffered the afflictions of bigotry and discrimination, the cruelty of intolerance. The song was written by Ed Sheeran for a movie taken from the young adult novel, "The Fault in Our Stars", a story of a young woman and young man both cancer patients who bond with each other. Jackie adapted a visual interpretation of the bond between her and her sister to Sheeran's song. She has said often that family comes first with her, career second. She also said very early that she wants to use her voice "to do good in the world", her promise to herself as a humanitarian. She is doing it with this video.
