Listening to gaming journalism is as useful as listening how to pick up rocks.
Kotaku is so bad thankfully 98% of people are hating on them
Atleast by picking rocks you are being productive by burning calories. Listening to game journalists you accerlate braincell loss and early memory loss
@@JL1523JuhzzXxjland increases your chances of getting brain cancer
@@JL1523JuhzzXxjl Plus you can use the rocks for something.
Like throwing at game journalists@@Cowboycomando54
Basically, the game didn’t perform how EA wanted it to perform and instead of actually digging into it and finding out why the game failed, they instead attempted to push the narrative that it failed because it was a singleplayer first person shooter.
EA still pushing that BS narrative. Even though they made the Jedi Survivor games.
*repost*At this point the disconnect between media and masses is very blurred information is too available for media to shape narratives anymore.
Which is crazy cuz DOOM and DOOM Eternal very much disproves that
All as planned to force the GAAS model they can milk with MTX.

How Kotaku is still in business after all these years is beyond me
Money laundering, most likely.
they thrive off of rage clicks these days
@@adad87821Which gets amplified when CZcamsrs talk about them unintentionally sending tons of their most braindeaded fans straight to their article to "Give them a reality check" not realizing they're giving them exactly what they want.
Just as IGN is becoming slightly “based” and threw Alive Squad under the bus despite the pandering.
Cuphead killed journalism.
It's cute that you think that it started then.
Gaming journalists never fail to lose Motivation.
It's astounding that Kotaku is still afloat with the amount of incompetence that they hire.
So why do you do gaming journalism
Mr. Krabbs voice: I like money...
Bro, games journalists do not make good money at all. Most barely make rent for one bedroom apartments
Kratos: Hmmm.... Mimir, take me to this Kotaku. I wish to have a word with them.
I feel like companies like Kotaku are only in it for the money at this point.
just like all the other trash websites in their collective of weirdos. Deadspin, Lifehacker, Gizmodo, etc.
Grifters
They always were.
Of course they are. All companies are.
well if those websites go bankrupt we cant make fun of them anymore
I thought that to be a game journalist, you'd have to be good at two things. Games, and journalism.
Both of those are optional
Same
The opposite is required actually
If it was...
Remember when the game journalist couldn’t pass the tutorial for cup heads 😂
This is like when a superhero movie flops and people blame superhero fatigue- the game was just mid…
this happened with madam webb the director thinks super hero fatique is why it failed no the movie sucks thats why it failed
But wouldn't that hold SOME merit? I mean, if people are sick of super hero movies coming out almost every year they wouldn't wanna see it?
Well there is superhero fatigue in the movie media after endgame what else is there to be hyped about
It would not surprise me if video game publishers that want to push for more live-service games and microtransactions paid Kotaku to write this article...
its either that or that they get off on making people upset and make money from rage clickers
"Single player games are in a grim state"
Larian studios: Are they now? I can't hear you over the millions of dollars baldurs gate 3 made
2023 was AMAZING for single player games. Not just baldurs gate 3
Even at the Game Awards, all of the Game of the Year nominees can be played in single player.
Baldurs gate 3 was decent at best imo
People actually like that woke game?

I've always been surprised that gaming journalism is even an industry.
Journalism as a whole
I appreciate you putting in gratitude towards the good triple A games coming out last year, I feel like too few commentators do that
This reminded me of how a certain CZcamsr (I think it was Retroreplay) got banned from Polygon because he called them out for showing favoritism (If I remember correctly)
CZcamsrs are often paid 10k or more just to play a game. Who cares what they think. IDK if that one has, but given so many take money for sponsored videos it's at least possible
I was drinking coffee, and you said "The game is Forgive me Father..." and I was like "Yes! Holy sht, yes!!" I almost spilled my coffee. Forgive Me Father is an insane masterpiece!!
The Manatees were South Parks depiction of Family Guys writing staff.
and how kotaku writes its articles
@@adad87821I don't know... Those Manatees are on point sometimes when writing a Family Guy episode. Same can't be said about a Kotaku article.
I think the first article I ever read from Kotaku had the headline "The 2016 Berserk anime already outshines the 90s one." So... Yeah, they never had any credibility as far as I was concerned.
“Grim time for single player games” Sure, if your game is bad
Also, spending $40 million on Marketing for a game that cost $80 Million to make just tells me you don’t have confidence your game will sell. I know marketing is a big thing to get people aware of your game but when your spending half as much money as it took to make the game, come on.
I would love to know exactly how large their HR department was and how many DIE staff they had, 2 departments that cost a lot and provide nothing and in the case of DIE is actively a negative
Basically they say "look! That new single player game failed, single player games are failing. Live service games prevail you losers"
But they completely ignore that the biggest games in the past decade where single player like GOW, Spiderman, baulders gate, etc and soon gta6 will completely mop any live service game with their numbers. Meanwhile the only single player game that failed to my memory was starfield. For live service we had more than a couple
You could also say the reason these "experts" claim single player games are dying off is because they simply cannot keep track of who is playing games that dont require online connection or servers.
I know that I am almost strictly offline when it comes to my gaming experiences. I prefer games that I can play by myself.
Games like Batman Arkham, Borderlands, Mad Max, Frostpunk, Boltgun, Spiderman, Battlefront (Offline Bots), Assassins Creed, Blasphemous, Carrion, Call of Cthulhu, Darksiders, etc.
The list goes on. I prefer single player games, mostly because I despise the idea of online games...which dont last too long. Last online game I played was on the PS3, it was called Defiance. I enjoyed it for about 2 years, and recently they shut the servers down...you can no longer play that game. This is why I stay away from online games, because they are unreliable. Eventually Fortnite, and all the other online server games will shut down...so imo why bother playing them.
Single player games are timeless compare to multiplayer only games. I can play Final Fantasy 7 over 20 years after its release. While Overwatch 1 is dead after less than 10 years on the market. At least Team Fortress 2 isn't dead yet.
Full of bots tho right
EA seems to neglect advertising. I have never heard or seen the game before and I am active online in the gaming sphere.
The whole gaming journalism industry has become a stepping stone for a more serious career in mainstream journalism. They pretend to like video games.
And how is that industry?
Singel player games I played on 2023: hi fi rush, hogwarts, deadspace, wo long, RE4 remake, cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and phantom liberty, starfield, lies of P, Star Wars
It was an amazing year for games last year and I still wanna play Alan wake 2 .
If Kotaku was ever a place for gaming journalism it was like 15 years ago if even that
It’s all about the headlines, And nothing else.
I'll never forget how, three years ago, a faux game journalist was upset that Chun-Li wasn't in the Mortal Kombat movie. It was so embarrassingly funny.
Seriously what happened to standards and practices? Lately companies like Disney and the like have been hiring people who don’t know anything about any franchise and those who are completely unqualified
I mean if i go with just singleplayer shooters, people still play OG doom, although its mostly because of mods.
Theres ultrakill which is an indie game.
There is Trepang 2 which is a power fantasy, you just slow time and go invisible, and the voice acting is so good, you can actually hear the ordinary soldiers being scared. it is only like 20 hours unless you are playing max difficulty and it is definitely worth the money.
There's also risk of rain 1/2/returns, which are roguelikes.
Red dead redemption 1/2 and GTA which is technicaly and RPG but you are most likely not playing without guns.
Not to mention far cry series or half life
then there are a lot of games that are good, like Crisis, bulletstorm, cruelty squad(this one is debatable), hotline miami, robocop, mafia, shadow warriors and the list goes on, there is so many good singleplayer shooters
People dont play modless 1993 DOOM anymore??
@@cadjebushey6524 They do but I think more people play it modded, although I am not 100% sure.
Man I can't believe your covering this I was just thinking about this a few days ago "like why everytime I read articles about video games it's just someone stating saying anything just to get attention and doesn't know what their talking about
Haven't they been saying that there was a single player game apocalypse either coming or happening for years now?
Its been hitting low since the late 2010s.
This article smells similair to the one i saw where some game jourrno made an article that made it obvious how much they hated Palworld, framed it in a way that Nintendo might not be sueing Palworld but they should since they are sueing a look a like called Pokezoo i think it was. The title was so click bait too, i was somewhat peeved for a few minutes, and then played more Palworld just to spite their article.
Right next to Muta on my subscriptions, lol.
There is nothing wrong with microtransactions assuming they don't impact the core gameplay
I heard about it a little before launch but your average person wouldn’t really be able to play it, the recommended specs were at least a 3080ti with a 5800x/i7-12700… minimum requirement for 1080 30fps lowest settings was a 1070 and a 8700k
Game campaigns should be decently long! ESPECIALLY single player Campaigns. In my opinion, it gives the player something to look forward to doing every day, and when its completed, gives a great feeling of proud accomplishment.
Does anyone agree..?
i aggree but sometimes long games get bloated with pointless checkboxes to do i would like a short but sweet game way more then a long game that isnt fun
All that the game they are talking about proves is that a big game with no advertising won’t get returns
Amazing how they push out a game with absolutely zero advertising beforehand and wonder why it flopped.. Like I'm 100% sure more people know about the game because it flopped than people who knew it actually existed beforehand.
If the triple A companies don't make great games, we'll make it ourselves
Immortals of Aveum is actually a really cool idea but it's no one's fault but EA because they spent way too much money on it, I've half a mind to believe they used half the budget to literally burn it to heat the office.
God of war, Resident Evil ,4 remake. Alan Wake 2. Jed survivor, Legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom. These were top single player games of 2023 but noo it's a terrible time for single player games according to Kontaku.
Hey now, Glass Joe can be pretty tough.
someone pocketed the marketing money
That's because these people want to be big legacy media reporters
Kotaku's article is really giving me "gaming is boring now" vibes. There is good in the gaming industry, obviously, people are just lazy to find those games and are still blindsided by the dark and grim stuff.
aggreed but once in a blue moon a good live service game actually does comeout just look at helldivers
I feel bad for the Cuphead guy, because iirc, he didn't even want to play the game, nor did he enjoy games of that nature. Yet he was told that he had to play it because nobody else would.
I believe it went something like that. And if I'm wrong, I still feel bad for him for being terrible at the game.
At this point, Vtubing agencies have done more games journalism than gaming journos have in the past 5 years just by having tubers stream them on launch.
Cringe opinion ngl
Lets just give love to game journalists on this one day of Valentine's Day. After that, it is whatever.
For 9:05 you also have Star Wars Jedi Survivor.
Game good play game. Game bad don't play game. Congrats, am i hired?
Gaming "journalism" hit rock bottom when several major reviewers either refused to review Hogwarts Legacy, or buried it with a bad review due to political reasons.
They saw what palworld did and was like “yea i can do better”
It’s not even journalism anymore
They spent the last week reciting unconfirmed rumors about xbox sooooo....
"Anyone with a brain" So not gaming urinalists then
I’m pretty sure a bunch of games that Kotaku and other journalist get have special difficulties so games can get burned through without difficulty
Gaming has been in a dark age since 2015
These articles sound like my caffeine-induced manic episodes
You know thry do this so CZcamsrs talk about them right? Just ignore them and they will hopefully either shut up or go away.
Last year had so many good games.
I believe it’s the complete opposite 😭. It’s less great Multiplayers games, than there are great single players. I’ve been going been back playing old gears of war and SWBF2 2017 to scratch the itch, but no new multiplayer
live service game structure straight up doesnt work on non free to play titles change my mind
I will never take what game journalist say seriously
If you want to review go to someone who actually knows how to play a game or played a specific genre or the people themselves
At the end of the day it's your choice but if you want to get an insight never take bias from these journos because 98% of the time that's what you're going to when you pull up an article or a review from these guys
I heard of this game last year due to them paying a ton of large but relatively unknown streamers to play it. I got annoyed seeing a DBD content creator play it. It looked like it played like a Marvel movie, horribly written jokes following the same exact pattern for the whole game included. I had no interest in it whatsoever due to the writing.
Aside from warframe I only play single player games. Multiplayer games as of late just don’t feel quite the same to me anymore
How is it that a small team can make a better game than a triple a game these days
Like most of the gaming news websites, kotaku is not made up of journalists. They are activists. The sooner people understand this and stop giving those websites traffic, the sooner more of them go out of business. Anything that is associated with ESG or DEI is an absolute psyop.
I only knew it as "that game that is horribly optimized"
So. Almost every Ubisoft game at launch?
I wonder what non-issue about games journalism CZcams is complaining about today
are they aware of the fact that baldurs gate 3 won goty?
Well thank god we have AAAA game now
So basically triple a game cost to much because it's single player while a game that cost 10,000 dollars to make made a f ton of money and what game that is its palworld points being video games aren't expensive to make it the people you hire that make cost go up firstly video games don't need to be 50 to 60 to 70 dollars to be sold video games are all 1010010100
Thousands of layoffs in gaming, yet kotaku is still in business.
Wait, did they say the campaign was too long? Since when are we complaining about extra content?
Yeo
Hey optimus just wanna suggest you put an epelepsi warning before showing that second game, there was alot of bright flashing lights towards the end of the clip so just a fair warning.
Meanwhile, FF7 Rebirth is also around the corner getting rave reviews. Oops.
Single player games can be very successful, Kotaku just doesn't keep up with gaming anymore. Immortals of Aveum was just meh, the story and characters weren't that interesting and the combat and effects were almost seisure inducing, it also required some capable hardware to run on PC. I remember playing it the day it dropped on a PC with an RTX 4090 and a Ryzen 7800X 3D. As good of a gaming PC as you can build right now and the performance wasn't good. You are charging top dollar for a game like this launching it between some bangers yeah people arent going to buy or theyll refund it or subscribe to EA play to check it out. It is what it is.
How does a new studio get this kind of funding anyway. People just throw money away it seems.
All I play are single player games.
They lost my last bit of respect when they begged for an easy mode in Sekiro
People still read Kotaku articles?

why is there no sound?
So what the new Yakuza is online multiplayer or em I tripping?
Who is in the thumbnail and how is he connected to the topic?

if anything multiplayer games have been on a downfall since fortnite came out
Like i keep saying. I dont care if your games cost more money than ever. Thats primarily on you. I didnt ask for 17k 2490fps games with one for one world scale and data biomes so dense you can see ball sacks shrink in cold environments. You are choosing to do that to be the "best". Gamers will literally play Nintendo games and games like stardew valley which are no where near the most graphically impressive but the content of the games is the main focus
