  • While it is true that many succulents are found in arid and hot areas, not all succulents will do well exposed to full sun, especially during hot spells.
    Many can even burn and die when the the sun is too strong. But there are quite a few species and cultivars that will grow well in full sun position, with minimal fuss and water requirements.
    In this video i will name and show you 30 different succulents that are super hardy, can withstand full sun conditions and will grow in garden as well as pots.

      They love the climate over here and we've had a couple of rainy years which just made them take off! 🙂💚

    I really enjoyed this video! I have a huge array of sun-loving succulents out in front of my house and have been "watching them like a hawk" as we're having unusually really cold weather here in Southern CA. Just in case, I'm prepared with stakes, clear plastic tarp, etc.

      Thank you- so glad you liked the video :) The weather seems to be playing silly buggers everywhere :( Hopefully you won't have to use the tarps & your succulents will happily make it through. I can imagine they must all be showing off their amazing colours due to the cold. Best of luck 💚

    That was great; now how about a list of succulents which are frost hardy? I have both hot summers and cold Winters sometimes down to -10C

  • @gaylefynaut562
    @gaylefynaut562 Před rokem +1

    When you say full sun or cold hardy, it would be nice to know the heat index and cold index. In summer here it can get to 115, not ever summer but 110 mostly. Would that mean morning sun afternoon shade?

    • @SucculentGrowingTips
      @SucculentGrowingTips  Před rokem

      We also get similar temperatures during summer. I think the highest we got was 47C (116.6F) and it is not unusual to get a few heatwaves with consecutive days above 40C (104F). All of the plants in this video have made it through such summers in full sun, in my nursery/garden. I would, however, say that there are days of reprieve and, they can suffer burn marks. Not die, but get some of their leaves burnt. By cold hardy i mean able to tolerate mild frosts. Also, much can depend on the plant and its conditions- advanced plants will fare better and they need to be hardened off so they can take that kind of sun. Soil needs to be good, mulched etc & pot plants can heat up much quicker especially if the pot is small and black. Hope this helps

      @@SucculentGrowingTips I subscribed to your channel also. Knowing we have similar climates helps a lot. My elevation is 1300 ft where we still get into the 100’s but also more frost then the valley. We actually got an inch of snow this year and it has been quite breezy. Thank you for all the good info. Look forward to your next video.

      @@gaylefynaut562 Wow, that is some weather- hope all your plants made it through the snow. We're at 350m (1300ft) and hardly even get frost that lasts past 8am. But i think our scorching summers are very similar 😅 It's winter here now, but i dread what summer has to offer this year as the ocean currents are meant to change creating very hot & dry conditions 😔 Fingers crossed we'll all be ok 🙂

    Do You have winter and snów??

    • @SucculentGrowingTips
      @SucculentGrowingTips  Před 10 měsíci

      The winter is pretty mild here- we get a few frosty days of about -3C but no snow. Most of the succulents in this video are not frost hardy. The ones that can stand frost and snow are pretty limited. Sempervivum are great for climates with cold winters :)

    i have a plant that just sits there- doesn’t grow, die, lose leaves, or put it shoots. it is a super i out and i have several but that all do the same. i’ve changed soul, watered less, watered more, put it it in hotter part of greenhouse but it just sits there! any ideas? i took them out to check the roots but all is well but they are very slowly growing, if at all. could these be dormant now?

    • @rosalynharris1808
      @rosalynharris1808 Před rokem

      supervivium.

    • @SucculentGrowingTips
      @SucculentGrowingTips  Před rokem

      They can just be small growing succulents. If it's Sempervivum, they grow better in the cooler months and dislike the heat. If you're in the US there's a good chance they are dormant now. Do you have the exact name?

    • @rosalynharris1808

      @@SucculentGrowingTips I really think it has something to do with their dormant time. i don’t know the names of them but for sure I’m going to make an effort the find out. i have come to think it has something to do with my potting soil- I’m going to try four different soils and see if that’s my problem. also i may have them in pots too big- trying to keep them from overcrowding. H mmm- probably i should wait til they start to grow! Thanks for your help!

    Wow guys, this video is not giving you the truth. Wow, it’s kind of shocking how wrong it is. Prolifica? Gollum? Elegans? So much is not true.

      Wow mate! If you don’t think these are hardy/ have trouble growing them A. You know nothing about succulents B. You’re clearly doing something wrong. I mean gollum?? Lol, a baby could grow that 😂
