A fun TCG I would recommend would be the new digimon TCG. The memory system that the game uses instead of a more traditional mana system I feel is a really fun mechanic and the more free form evolution mechanics definitely represent the series well while also adding some interesting considerations for deck building
I like the Digimon TCG, but i feel like it is very easy to rush the opponent with an army of cheap digimons and defeat them with single attack. But if both sides decide to not rush for the sake of a fun game, it IS a very fun and strategic game.
Second best card game out. It does a lot of things right, building upon and innovating mechanics instead of recycling mechanics with different packaging. I am wary of the upcoming one piece tcg as it looks to be a mixed copy of dbs card game and digimon tcg. While not surprising, I can’t give bandai anymore of my money atm
@@bananacrapshoot6469 My last series i've got is the BT-7, and while it's true, that there is more rush counters now, i still feel like if you really go full rush tactics, you gonna overwhelm the opponent. I like the card game, don't get me wrong, can't wait for the X-Antibody series, but i'm just saying my opinion. :)
Hey, I'll chime in and say that I got the Nisei (Android successor game) set in its entirety just a few weeks back and it is GLORIOUS. Have no qualms recommending that.
I'm a big fan of Keyforge - not needing to build decks proved a massive time-saver, plus it means when I do badly I can just blame the deck rather than me! Its aember/key-forging focus also helps reduce instances of games snow-balling, by requiring players (usually) to give their opponent some breathing room when they have the advantage, because your creatures are busy collecting aember instead of hitting the other player. Unfortunately it's a bit harder to get hold of at the moment than it should be because FFG managed to 'lose' the algorithm for producing decks so there hasn't been a new set in a while and I think some of the more recent sets have sold out. Hopefully FFG manages to get it back up and running again and I have the chance to grow my collection some more!
I’ve actually been digging out my Netrunner collection over the last week or two, having stopped playing in 2018. Holy crap, it’s a good game. And guess what? You can play indefinitely and entertain yourself with just the core set. The other sets and expansions are nice, but definitely not necessary.
While I don't play any myself, I like the idea of living card games and very much agree that they are more consumer-friendly. Glad to hear there's fan-efforts to keep some of them alive. Vampire: the Eternal Struggle is missing from this list. An interesting game that works well for big groups rather than just two players.
I'm so sad A:NR is no longer in production. It's easily the best LCG/CCG I've played. There are no wasted turns. You always have an option because the parts of a turn are modular (each player has 4 points to spend and corp is forced to draw on their first one). Want to spend a turn just drawing cards? Go ahead. I remember so many MtG games where I just draw a card, look at my sad game state, and pass. Like Yu-Gi-Oh, it has the fun of bluffing with face-down cards. I've seen the bluffing aspect balance a game that would've been a blowout otherwise. The asymmetry is a big plus, too. Playing each side feels very different. If you're like me and don't like wasting money trying to chase rares and mythics, it also has the benefit of being a LCG, which means you always get the same cards when you buy a pack. (It's also pretty easy to teach to someone who's used to games like MtG.)
Netrunner is the only TCG I ever went all in for. I still have my entire collection and even bought premium tokens to replace the cardboard ones. There really is nothing else like it.
@@ioNetrunner That's so cool! I've eyed those fancy tokens and considered it a few times. I want to go all-in but I also have so few people to play with locally, I just can't justify it. I will very likely eventually have the entire collection, though, and also the fan expansions most likely.
Man this is one I wish I was in on, but my gaming journey started later. I’ve talked with the designer of the revised core set a good bit about the game because I am very interested. Nisei starter set looks like the best jump on point currently
Keyforge absolutely had a meta, which meant that instead of chasing packs for good cards people just bought and sold entire decks to chase the meta. It just moved the secondary market from single cards to entire decks.
Although I would say the decks on the secondary market go for a lot cheaper than some individual Mtg cards. And there are a lot of different formats in KeyForge (ex. adaptive, triad, sealed) that prevent a single deck from just dominating the meta
The existence of the Internet will always ensure that every competitive game will have a "meta", it's inevitable. What KeyForge does is say "so what? here's a deck you've never seen before and will never see again, and it only cost you $13. go ham." There will always be those who think they need to spend money to win, and it works a lot of the time so it will continue to happen. But the way I see it, I can take the $200 or $300 most people charge for a "competition grade" deck and buy 15 - 25 band new decks (at least 4 - 6 WILL be pretty good) for myself and have a grand old time playing the game and exploring a brand new deck every single week.
Android Netrunner is an absolutely brilliant game, both in mechanics and flavor. I've played what feels like a million different TCGs and Android Netrunner is by far the best one out there. Despite FFG discontinuing support for the game it still lives on through the fan-run Nisei, which is available either very cheap or entirely free and is essentially the same game. Don't miss out on it.
I think a few people mentioned 2 of the three i be mentioning. Digimon cards are making a comeback. I love their new system mechanic. It was supposed to rival pokemon TCG but failed in the 90's. It made a come back not that long ago during the pandemic. Also Card Battle Vanguard i like it very simple and quick pace. I like it over Yu-Gi-Oh i still love Yu-Gi-Oh. Lastly I think they try to make it more TCG than accessories is Bakugan. They made a come back in 2018 where you focus on the cards then i knew what's going to happen. Adding more stuff like more gimmicks, and needing to buy the expensive toy with the card....yeah it's a new twist to a marbles game with cards. Also anyone from Dicebreaker is reading this. THANK YOU for your time. I appreciate you lot. Please keep doing what you are all doing.
I love the shout out for KeyForge. It's easily my favorite card game. I gotta point out that it's not a 2-4 player game, it's 1-3 players. The standard match is 1v1, but there are Adventures where 1-3 player(s) can play against the Adventure deck as a solo or co-op experience. Another mechanical difference to most other card games is that you draw to a max hand size instead of one card per turn.
It's out of print now, but the Harry Potter TCG has always been my favorite. We still have family tournaments every once in a while. I highly recommend it if you see a starter pack in a garage sale or some thing.
A great recommendation : Chaotic It's one of the most unique tcg i've ever seen. The game is currently dead, but there are some news about reviving it and even if no new cards are being printed, the community is still alive! I'd also recommend Cardfight Vanguard which is a bit different to what we are used. Like Yugioh, very simple at first, but the combos and synergies are very cool
I was quite surprised to hear you saying that getting into Netrunner is not so easy anymore and I also have to disagree. I never was that much into LCGs/TCGs, but I've recently made the Nisei System Gateway set as a print and play and oh my word, is it good. Of course you could just get the cards made at a copy shop, or just print the paper faces, stick it into an opaque back sleeve with a a Poker card and Bob's your uncle...
One Piece is super fresh and clean. The don mechanic is keeping me intrigued, but if I watched the anime more, this would be something I'd sink my teeth into. The card game that has my attention currently is Marvel Champions. Sure you can play with other players to take down the villain of choice...but I prefer to play solo. And the deckbuilding is really fun as well
When he mentioned the dice mechanic in Ashes I thought of Star Wars Destiny which uses dice and is a spectacular game that uses small deck sizes and really pushes you to strategize and doesnt feel as bloated as an MTG game can get. Once my friend and I made 100+ card decks in MTG and the game would never end 😆
Different things though! Dice in ashes are the resource system while the dice in destiny were everything! Loved destiny. Even co-hosted a podcast for destiny
I think the fact that Yugioh has no set rotation whatsoever makes the absolute chaos that some fifteen-year-old card can bring to the meta fucking hilarious. And it makes deck-building so much more fun
@@fetusthegreat9797 culdcept is my favourite tcg. Thanks for replying lol always excited to see others enjoy the game. My only complaint is the stores are so corny and lame. I think I remember him doing some early Total War: Three Kingdoms Let's plays and video break downs when I was waiting for the release. I knew I had seen and heard him somewhere else other than this channel!
The last three aren't really TCGs. There are no random boosters, no need to trade cards. My favorite TCG, for a few years now, is Weiß Schwarz. The ultimate crossover game, where every set is licensed, and interchangeable.
This guy is awesome at explaining card games. I wonder if people felt the same with me. I use to play yu-gi-oh back in the day just casually a few small tournaments there and then nothing fancy. But honestly I was so noob when I played I didn't understand what was going on haha, still fun though. But I've just started playing MTG Arena and I did try a little magic real cards back in the day with a friend. But tbh I got so caught up in playing WOW, I was too busy grinding my levels to reach burning crusade lol. Anyways MTG cards to me, makes more sense than yu-gi-oh most of the time even though its complicated but man I love MTG its so freaking fun but I dont have any years on my belt but I always go up against people who have millions of cards haha at least its a little bit easier for me to understand. I cant wait to hear what other TCG I could try in a more easier section. Sometimes I wanna play yu gi oh Duel links but I dont know MAgic just a little more diverse and flexible and in controlled especially if your running blue deck. Might check out Elder Scrolls too. So many good card games. FUN!
Flesh and Blood is also incredibly good. It has a lovely back-and-forth with both combatants running out of options as time goes on. And the upcoming Sorcery Contested Realm is looking very promising too, with a print and play version you can try for yourself before its release! It has hand painted art and pretty wild card effects for a TCG. It has lands like Magic, but in a separate deck you can draw from, and you use them to create the space you play on!
I'll recommend shadowfist for fans of magic the gathering's multiplayer/commander format. It's the only tcg I know of designed to be played with 3-4 players. The "answers" are costed extremely cheaply so players are incentivized to include them in their decks. All creatures have trample and haste by default to discourage turtling. And most importantly the mechanics allow you to determine who is winning by looking at the board. So you don't get this feelbad moment of "do I attack the Izzet player who has played nothing incase he might win next turn". And the turn-over-turn progression is well balanced so you can win by breaking away and never letting the other players catch up, or by cagily playing from second and then sprinting over the finish line.
Great game but it’s becoming very clear that games with no secondary market/ limited collect ability are limited to a small player base and will never have the scope TCGs or other collectible games have. I love the model as a player.
The Legend of the Five Rings CCG was a great fun game, maybe a little steep on the learning curve, but once you got past that it was a great game. Still loved by many even over 8 years after it stopped being published.
@@sleepytime999998 You mean with all the expansion sets released? Yes it's a mightily expensive game. However, they will release duel decks soon. So if you want to jump in, keep an eye out for those.
There's a new Pokémon TCG app coming out some time this year if you wanna give it a try without spending money. If you're in Canada you can try the beta right now
Finally scrolling through the comments and found some REAL good card game which is much different than MTG. My cards are in torpor, waiting for my kids to be old enough to face such brutal game as this one to play with me :)
aw, no Cardfight!! Vanguard. admittedly i don't know if it's considered a _good_ TCG, but i like it a lot and its insane combos are really fun to set up and execute, especially with G Era cards.
@@Kaiser8513 yeah. I really got out of it when it got rebooted and the v era stuff started. I was really into it before that and actually had a gold paladin deck centered around Platina Ezel (none of my cards were ones that freed locked cards though) in which I actually always used to use the kyrph superior ride then break ride with Platina Ezel, a Nova Grappler deck centered on both Deadliest Beast Deity Ethics Buster Reverse and Strongest Beast Deity Ethics Buster Extreme (I had both and just used whichever one), a Kagero deck centered on Eradicator, Vowing Sword Dragon Reverse, and a Seal Dragon deck with my ace being Hellfire Seal Dragon Blockade Inferno ( that was the hardest to use because I first had to rude blockade because of the effect when he's in blockade inferno's soul, then ride Weathercloth so that I could get the stuff from their break ride, then finally riding blockade inferno). Me nor my brother ever really got into grade 4 though. My favorite to use was definitely my gold paladin deck. I thought of so many different things for when I rode first Blond Ezel then Platina Ezel. Sorry for how long that was. It's just that I really like it even though I only ever played against my brother and lost every time, and nobody ever talks about it. I also absolutely love the lore of the game like for instance the fact that ut makes sense for the "biss" units to onky be able to be played with their own clans since they're leaders or major figures of them.
@@Kaiser8513Also, you're totally right about it. The rules of the game itself are really simple but due to all of the different clans there are and their signature gimmicks along with stuff like break rides, superior rides, triggers, rear guards, the Grade system, guarding, the damage system, the vanguard itself, limit breaks, and the soul it ends up as a game where you can end up with all sorts of different possible outcomes and strategies. Also, it isn't way too much of a victim of power creep (prior to grade 4 and v series) because for instance despite being one of the original cards released, Brutal Jack is still a very common card in nova grappler decks because having a 11000 attack power grade 2 card is still really good even if you have to counter blast 1 damage in order to attack. Also, if you are able to stand it back up (which is a major gimmick for nova grappler) you can still use it without counter blasting again because of the fact that it's restraint is removed till the end of the turn.
@@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor I own 10 starter decks but did one prerelease where I pulled Kaiser Vermilion The Blood and Great Silver Wolf Garmore so I added them in as well as the cross ride for both. I normally play using either my Kagero or Narukami decks but do have Granblue and Gear Chronicle for G series. Only ever get to play myself anymore but have options for if anyone ever wants to try it
@@Kaiser8513 The sad thing is that I haven't played in years and I literally have no clue what happened to my decks. It's even worse because a lot of the cards that I had were individually ordered by my brother for me (he put together my decks) with most of my main vanguards (with the exception of Vowing Sword Dragon and Eradicator, Vowing Sword Dragon "Reverse" since they were from the booster deck, and I also never even really played that deck) actually each costing like $60. I have no clue what happened to them and it's been years so they're probably long gone.
As most people have said Flesh and Blood is probably the biggest game to be omitted from the list. Now this does include paid promotion so it nakes sense if the other games paid for a spot here. However FaB is more deserving a spot than the last 3 id say

Where is Final Fantasy TCG? Mechanically it’s the best game here apart from Netrunner. It’s designed by an ex-mtg pro and feels like mtg 2.0 in many ways.
"trading card games that ..." Shows 2 games that aren't TCGs, because no rare chasing; no trading or collecting. They are ECGs, expanding card games. I love they're in the video because ECGs are superior to TCG/CCGs, due to being able to be competitive without costing an arm and a leg.
let's be real here there aren't many TCG because of magic pokemon and yugioh are the ones being played the most. i want a game like magic but less conveluded and ridiculously priced.
So Ashes is a "living card game" because its not sold in random packs. Because Fantasy Flight Games trademarked the term Living Card Game, it's called an Expandable Card Game.

Great game but it’s becoming very clear that games with no secondary market/ limited collect ability are limited to a small player base and will never have the scope TCGs or other collectible games have. I love the model as a player.
I have four binders of chaotic cards . I never got to play but i want to start collecting other games
The Legend of the Five Rings CCG was a great fun game, maybe a little steep on the learning curve, but once you got past that it was a great game. Still loved by many even over 8 years after it stopped being published.
Didn't mention "Flesh and Blood"..also a top tier cardgame.
@@sleepytime999998 You mean with all the expansion sets released? Yes it's a mightily expensive game. However, they will release duel decks soon. So if you want to jump in, keep an eye out for those.
@@sleepytime999998 Luckily they mostly affect first edition prices. I haven't had the unlimited edition prices fluctuate in my country, yet.
The new digimon TCG and Cardfight Vanguard are very glaring omissions.
There are thousands of card you get to play with almost 90% of diamond/plat games are tearlament and a bunch of spright varients
There's a new Pokémon TCG app coming out some time this year if you wanna give it a try without spending money. If you're in Canada you can try the beta right now
No mention of Summoner Wars?
It's on our two player games list!
Why Digimon isn’t in this video ?
Vampire the Eternal Struggle is also another great tcg created by Richard Garfield.
Finally scrolling through the comments and found some REAL good card game which is much different than MTG. My cards are in torpor, waiting for my kids to be old enough to face such brutal game as this one to play with me :)
It may not be a TCG but one day, perhaps my name will be added to a top card game list. Videos like this is always inspiring!
Meta zoo is a relatively new tcg that came out that's good
aw, no Cardfight!! Vanguard. admittedly i don't know if it's considered a _good_ TCG, but i like it a lot and its insane combos are really fun to set up and execute, especially with G Era cards.
Vanguard is one of my favorite games to play and I appreciated that the show can actually teach the basic rules unlike Yu-Gi-Oh
Flesh and Blood
I love KeyForge!! I'm glad it got featured in this video! :)
As most people have said Flesh and Blood is probably the biggest game to be omitted from the list. Now this does include paid promotion so it nakes sense if the other games paid for a spot here. However FaB is more deserving a spot than the last 3 id say
Cardfight Vanguard is a recommendation, the channel im commenting from is my channel for the game
Sorry to say Wheels...but you WON'T be summoning your Blue-Eyes White Dragon with your Pot of Greed. Because not even veterans know what Pot of Greed does.
Not mentioning the Digimon TCG was a big mistake.
1:12 "...but don't blame me if Steve Smith comes up to you and say that you're wasting your Charizard."
Surprised that cardfight vanguard isn't at the top of most people's lists. Such an awesome game
Its a dead tcg
I tried but it felt boring to me.
Surprised you have games no longer in print (Android netrunner) and game without new releases in years (keyforge). Keyforge developers broke the algorithm and haven’t had news or new releases since.
I like your Adam Page shirt!
Android Netrunner is out of print for years not??? Why that is listed here?
Where is Final Fantasy TCG?
Mechanically it’s the best game here apart from Netrunner. It’s designed by an ex-mtg pro and feels like mtg 2.0 in many ways.
Has anyone tried to make android netrunner a PC or mobile game yet?
Weiss Schwarz if you like different Anime IPs, highly collectible cards and unique gameplay.
"trading card games that ..." Shows 2 games that aren't TCGs, because no rare chasing; no trading or collecting. They are ECGs, expanding card games. I love they're in the video because ECGs are superior to TCG/CCGs, due to being able to be competitive without costing an arm and a leg.
I would really suggest people check out Flesh and Blood. It’s a great game with a very welcoming community!
"YOU JUST ACTIVATE MY TRAP CARD"
You also need to do it with a dirty look in your face.
Or say it to your girlfriend/wife
Android Netrunner is THE BEST card game, it’s a SHAME that Fantasy Flight lose the license and can no longer release new expansion for it
What's a shhorset?
let's be real here there aren't many TCG because of magic pokemon and yugioh are the ones being played the most.
i want a game like magic but less conveluded and ridiculously priced.
I would like to see a video about more living card game, or similar systems.
So Ashes is a "living card game" because its not sold in random packs. Because Fantasy Flight Games trademarked the term Living Card Game, it's called an Expandable Card Game.
I just want to collect cards again haha, but I can't decide whether to buy yugioh pokemon or digimon
Netrunner.
I wish L5R were still around.
I have my oun card game that I hope that I can publish
I recommend Ascendants of Aetheros.
Ashes Reborn and Netrunner are not TCG they are LCG.
Netrunner was originally a Collectible/Trading Card game when it was made by Wizards of the Coast. It only became a LCG when FFG took over it.
@@ookamiprime6646 Yes i know but the last version of Netrunner we got was a LCG and Ashes is not a TCG whatsoever.
@@ookamiprime6646 But the one seen in the video was the LCG from FFG.
+1 Poke'mon
Have a like for your cool Hangman Adam Page shirt sir.
I am a big fan of Marvel: Champions. Was hoping it made the list.
While an absolutely solid game Champions is a living card game like Arkham Horror and the Lord of The Rings LCG.
@@scottperkins5038 Ah ha! I see.
@@duncanrae466 Yes, but Ashes is more of an LCG than a TCG, and it is on the list. And Keyforge and Netrunner technically aren't TCGs either. I suppose you can trade entire Keyforge decks
If you try yugioh, just be prepared for card texts that have very nuanced meanings and 187 words on them
If vs when will slip them up
People are sleeping on Dragon Ball Super Card Game.
If the small brother of MTG and second son of Richard Garfield, is not on the list, you already know the list is WRONG. VTES (named Jyhad in the beggining), best card game EVER created.
+ STAR WARS CCG from Decipher for its unique gameplay and capturing of SW essence and fun.
What about kryptik tcg ?
i add to your list game of thrones lcg 2nd edition
I love Mtg so much
The first two are part of the big 3 and the last 3 arent even trading card games, they're self contained card games.
Force of Will is pretty fun and similar to MTG
Force of Will is like MTG but worse in almost every aspect.
I feel like pokemon and yugioh shouldn't really be included since they are just so obvious
Lol keyforge! More like keyfart!
What's cowboy shit? 8-)
Hangman Adam Page
No Flesh and Blood? O.o
This is an old video, I hadn't played it at the time!
KeyForge is cheap now.
WTF there was a WWE CCG?! 😆
Gee I wonder why that failed......................................
Petition to let me make the AEW TCG so I can make a card in which Hangman and Kenny Omega kiss, thanks - Wheels
