The deadliest tornado in history actually happened in Bangladesh in the late 1980s. From the damage, it looked to be an EF5 and wound up killing around 1000 officially but eyewitnesses said that was severely underestimating it.
A tornado doesn't need to be a wedge in order to be very destructive, as seen in Manitoba. I think Manitoba had an F5 that lifted a house and it was not a wedge tornado.
Correct... Elie, Man. In June 2007. That was a monster storm. We have a tornado alley here in Ontario, I think we've had an F-4 or two, but no F-5's that I know of.
@waynemasters No EF5s in Ontario, and the last time Ontario saw an EF4 was 1985. Unless of course they happen in a sparsely populated area where there is no one to report it or witness it.
@@alexcarter2461 May 31, 85 was a destructive day all around the lakes, eh? OH, Ont., PA & NY got pummeled with severe weather, lots of tornadic storms. If memory serves, OH & PA (Niles & Wheatland) had the furthest East F5 that day... I was only 12, but I do remember it well.
Small tornadoes can still do EF5 damage. One type is the "drillbit" tornado. As the name implies, it's a very narrow funnel but with ferocious vertical motion and wind speed. It's how one house can be leveled while a next door house may be untouched. Houses have also been severely damagedrby dying tornadoesr, as they "rope out" and get very narrow, conservation of angular momentum causes the wind speed to increase dramatically.
By small tornadoes you're thinking of rope tornadoes this one is nothing compare to Oklahoma Nebraska Kansas and Alabama Tornadoes hell add Florida too.
I would like to see some studies, if they exist on the correlation between tornado funnel diameter and wind speed. Clearly a majority of strong tornadoes are large in diameter, but not all. So what dynamics are in play when you have an intense small diameter tornado, like in Minnesota 2020
To me it looks realistic and is real, fake tornado videos could never simulate the base of a tornado well beside the physics simulations based on actual data run by researchers
One of the reasons that tornado deaths may be increasing, is that people keep getting as close as they can to get video footage of tornadoes, and putting their lives at risk. I just don't understand why so many people keep putting themselves in harms way.
Insane footage to be standing that close to something that powerful! I once sat on an old rickety bridge while a freight train was racing two feet above my head but I’d probably have damn heart attack these days just witnessing that tornado 😖

@@AngryOtter614...I would like to see that report. The vicious and tumultuous tornados I have seen in Tornado Alley and in Joplin, Missouri were up to a mile wide and more. An EF-4 has winds from 166-200MPR and there wouldn't be any anything standing in that short clip. I lived in Tornado Alley for 23 years and helped in Joplin. Tornadoes pick up dirt, tree limbs, leaves, and debris from human-made items as they spin through an area. These items are spun into balls called debris balls, which the wind can throw into buildings and cars, causing further damage.

I'm pretty surprised by the lack of tornado footage from outside North America. I don't mean there's not any, that's certainly false, but I thought that once cameras were this ubiquitous we'd see one to several in most countries every year, even a hundred in some if only hundreds or thousands in the US. I'm sorry for these people, though I am glad they don't get several coming through one after the other. That happens in the SE and my family in Tennessee was just taking cover the other day from a series of nasty storms, and the flooding they cause.
