An excellent technical introduction, going to exactly the depth that is needed for one to understand what Ceph is about, without dwelling on unnecessary details.
21:44 being unlucky might not even be the issue, imagine how a lot of installs happen which bulk purchases of disks, all of which assumedly would fail at the same time.
docs.ceph.com/en/latest/architecture/?highlight=architecture#ceph-file-system You can see below it also puts libcephfs above librados. the docs are in a constant state of change so that's probably the cause of the inconsistency
This is THE definitive intro to Ceph. Not surprising given the presenter! :)

Great content! Thanks so much for putting time and energy to create and share your wisdom with us!
Thank you very much, this is the best video that introduces Ceph so far. I am doing my Master thesis on it and it has been very helpful.
Great discussion of how Ceph works, thank you!
Great video! Thank you very much.
Phenomenal intro. I'm hooked and want to learn more and try it out.
Immense thanks for creating this introductory video. Wowed by the capabilities that Ceph offers for building our own private cloud.
Care to share your experiences? Currently building a private cloud myself :-)
Thank You very much.
Many thanks for your efforts.
This is really low-level and awesome. I feel like a ceph pro now without even provisioning a single daemon
Nice, thanks for making this!
Amazing presentation. Although from.2019, still very relevant.
This video is so good that my professor straight up teaches this and these slides when explaining ceph! Thanks for helping me with finals :p
Great video, helped me a lot. thanks!
Very Good ! Thank you!
@21:18 - the "Replicate Objects", if we lose a disk, what's the IOPS / performance hit on the storage system?
Is RBD kind of like a distributed ZFS system?, around minute 50, what you describe about how RBD stores data reminds me about how ZFS stores data.
Thanks for upload the video. I was waiting for it. ¿Are the slides available for download somewhere?

@5:12 I’m confused in the doc CEPHFS doesn’t use librados docs.ceph.com/docs/master/architecture/?highlight=architecture
docs.ceph.com/en/latest/architecture/?highlight=architecture#ceph-file-system
You can see below it also puts libcephfs above librados. the docs are in a constant state of change so that's probably the cause of the inconsistency
really fast speaker
great info but what's with the teeth sucking or lap smacking noises? Super distracting and gross.
It's a great introduction to Ceph. thanks a lot!
