The art style for the portraits might honestly be my favorite of the whole series. The music is sounding great too. Can't wait to play it!

Haven't seen gameplay of this since the kickstarter for Half Genie Hero when the team live streamed this and a few other canceled games. This has to be some of the most gorgeous sprite work on the GBA outside of perhaps an RPG or two.

The sprites and backgrounds (most of which being 2002-04 era s**t) are less detailed too! But some assets not seen before are lifted from Risky's Revenge
@@TemmiePlays Risky’s Revenge wasn’t for the GBA so that’s a moot point lol. And anyway they’re not identical at all. There are some assets here and there that were clearly repurposed for Risky’s Revenge (back when this game was still shelved), but overall the sprite work is (fittingly) more of a midway point between the original game and Risky’s Revenge.

For instance, the forest background in the Shantae Advance demo was a placeholder taken from a non-WF source, being Hameln no Hiki for SFC, but in the full game, they just used the forest background from Risky's Revenge and painted it blue with some brightness/contrast changes

I love everything about this. It’s so surreal seeing the old sprite art combined with the new art direction in the dialogue portraits.
I preordered a physical cart day 1 and I’m super excited to bust out my GBA for this.

How could it be though? The Mandela effect is a phenomenon in which some people get confused on smaller details on some products usually colors or spellings. This game has always existed, it just went unreleased

I can't believe the stark contrast between this game and the original Shantae game, I've literally been playing it in preparation for this game.
It looks even better than pirate's curse with the smooth animations and that one's a 3DS game.

What a treat! Thank you for this video! I already put in my pre-order. The pixel are is beautiful, the animations are incredibly fluid and the OST is amazing! The original Shantae pushed the limits of what was possible on the GBC hardware and this game looks like it will do the same for the GBA. I can't wait to have this in hand and play it on my Analogue Pocket. I also have my original GBA console and and looking forward to playing multiplayer with my daughter. Job very well done and congrats on being able to complete this masterpiece and share it with us.

This is the first game they have released since i got into Shantae in late 2020, this makes me sooo excited, the pixel work looks amazing!

This game has the definitive Shantae design IMO, it's the perfect blend of all previous designs. Mostly like the classic one with the new art style and some minor tweaks

I mean, I was right about what I saw when Matt posted a video of some gameplay footage of it over on Twitter right after the chat ended. And I also love how you guys putted some of the full colored illustrations in it, I really love it and you guys did a great job!! 😊👍
(7:42 - 8:13 Really different than from one of the gameplay videos for the 2004 demo version that was uploaded 2 decades back! I mean, I'm talking about the different type of portraits, dialogue and music! 😊)

All of the music and sfx that were in the demo came from Godzilla: Domination!
And guess what? They never had a proper soundtrack before cancellation

I wish the sprite art style for the gameplay returned for future installments. The fluid animation from the sprites gave the games so much charm

Too bad the characters don't use the Classic Mr. Bozon designs in illustrations, especially Shantae herself, considering that her sprite is supposed to represent the classic Mr. Bozon design, and the illustration design combines the HGH, Risky's Revenge and 2013 Shantae designs into one.
It's like if SEGA revived Sonic Xtreme and made Sonic and friends' UI, cutscenes and illustration designs their Dreamcast era designs with black iris color and then kept the classic model designs intact

@@Porstile They could've had an artist who could replicate the classic Mr. Bozon artstyle for illustrations, instead of going with a more generic artstyle, but Ig they wanted to appeal to modern Shantae fans, idk, I just think this decision subtracts the traditional value. They must have underestimated Classic Shantae, when Shantae Advance was a Classic Shantae game and kinda still is

It is coming to switch and ps5 and I'm pretty a physical will happen just like this gba version because LRG is doing it. I ordered the collector's edition for gba and I'll order the standard versions of switch and ps5 once those copies happen.

I think I like Shantae transformations better when they are, how should I put it, utilised to change Shantae as a controlled character like this game, Risky's Revenge and Half-Genie Hero, as opposed to being specific moves as deployed in Seven Sirens.

This looks great. Love the more classic Shantae look and feel. Would love to see the SNES get a version of Shantae too. I'm sure with a few tweaks here and there that this game would port across very nicely.
It's still so strange to me that WayForward actually released the game. I remember reading about its cancellation, I watched a live stream where the team showed of the demo they had, with the wheels for animation tests on the title screen and the sky taken from another game.
And now here we are, in 2024, getting the missing chapter. I never thought that day would come.
Can't wait to get my gold cartridge. Looks like a lot of what I enjoyed about Pirate's Curse and Seven Sirens.

You're half right. When Risky's Revenge was announced, Nintendo Power covered the game and it was originally going to be an episodic game. This idea was seemingly discarded and many areas and features that were present in that preview were not in the final game. Risky Revolution was nothing more than a demo pitch though.
I hope it gets ported to modern consoles one day, this would be fun to do a Let's Play of!
But it already IS coming to modern consoles. PS4, PS5, and Switch to be exact. WayForward said as much months ago.

The way you can rotate the world reminds me of Fez. That game also had a cancelled sequel. Edit: Going into the background should become a regular thing for games like this.

I wonder who's the composer for this one. I'm not sure if they brought back Jake Kaufman or if someone else is the composer, but the soundtrack sounds great. My favorite one is the one that plays in Uncle Mimic's room.
Just replayed half-genie hero and started seven sirens, which I'm thoroughly enjoying, so I'm hoping this game will eventually come to switch cause I'd love to play it too!
