Room, the 1979 tour was a dimension apart from this show, and thank you, I had never seen this. Gary had a a very cold, android persona while performing a song in his early 20's. But his genuine warmth, bows and smiles where there afterwards, right from the start. He bears an eerie resemblance to Thomas Sopwith of Sopwith Aircraft fame. Damn, I a bit like Gary believe in letting the past be the past but hell - this WAS the music I most loved on Numan and I am now so pissed off I didn't buy tickets. I think everywhere is now sold out. I adore they've kept it clean and original without the (to my ears excessive layering) which just comes out muddy live. His voice is even identical or improved with time. I love the unique and instantly "Numan" breaks in it and the super clear lyrics, unique and the time and both often lost in the newer songs.
If he was unrecognized to you, to be fair, Gary spent many years relatively off the radar in the period between his massive original success and his massive current success. Because of transplants etc. he has more hair now than he ever used to have, and many who had been there in the beginning struggled a bit to identify Gary as the same person - if they'd stopped following him. Plus back then he was made of steel and synthetics and seemingly very few servos as he mostly stood still and more statue like than android. Now he rocks it!

Nice reaction 😁👍 this was number 1 for 4 weeks in 1979 and I have been a fan since then 🤓 the song is inspired by sci-fi and is about robot prostitutes 😂 think Blade Runner and Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Numan ROCKS. Have been a fan since Are "friends" Electric was No.1 for 4 weeks in 1979. The man outside is a Machman.... Listen to the album it's complicated. The song is about an android (friend) that performs "services" for humans either sexual or not. Su was an ex girlfriend of Gary's.

The studio version is the best. Live version lacks the power and punch of the original and that synth lead has been completely abandoned.
