“Organised chaos” I like that. I became an instant SB19 fan when I first watched this mv. To me it hinted at how they would be something different. It was so unlike anything I’d heard in Filipino music… and yet it showcased so much about the Philippines and its culture. Waving the flag proudly in spite of all our “chaos”. I'm so glad you liked SB19's flow! Raps in P-Pop songs are really something else, something about the Filipino language just makes a rap verse so much more elevated. I recommend reacting to Alamat's songs (they just released a new music video, the song Dagundong which is SO rap-heavy & nuanced in the lyrics) because along with SB19, they also shine in the way their songs & rap lyrics are structured. To me, those who appreciate the "Organized chaos" of this song (Much like how Bohemian Rapsody feels like) knows how to appreciate the expression of artistry of the artists and tries to see it from their perspective and intention instead of judging it from your own preferences in music. Superb review man.
If you need the "political undertones", this is the song that put SB19 on the world stage, and was created effectively as a big middle finger to those saying they're just some "wannabe K-pop idols" or that as a Filipino group trained by a Korean company they're never going to make it or make their country and their music stand out. (It's why there's so much bouncing between genres, styles, and tones, they're proving they can do anything).
Speaking of country, PH has had a long standing history of fighting with bigger countries *coughChinacough* throwing their weight around and belittling the Philippines's authority (Fun fact, the map used in the end card was used in a Hague dispute between them regarding territorial waters).
Also, SB19 has at least 3 different interpretations for their titles and it's some Filipino wordplay.
"Watawat" in Tagalog means flag, as in the subtitles. breaking it apart, it contains "what?" and "awat", which means 'concede', 'relent', or 'surrender'. So, in this context, "what awat?" (which is how you pronounce "watawat") can translate to "What do you mean, surrender!?"
PS. The "Father" in this context means the big G-Oh-Single D up in heaven (PH is very, VERY catholic) but I wouldn't be surprised if they also meant it that way (with the shoutout of "Pilipinas" and the map). And I would personally translate "agimat" as "badge of honor" but your interpretation works too. :D

In a nutshell, to me, the song conveys that we all have our own struggles and we bear our badge of honor, our individual flags, to show how we stand to overcome all the challenges around, with guidance from one's faith and personal beliefs. Whether the challenges are natural or man-made as long as one knows to seek guidance and stand for their beliefs then they can overcome any strife.

When they mentioned 'Father' in the song, they were referring to God who is their source of protection and strength.
now that I've watched your reaction it made me realize what did I miss when I had watched the mv...and now thinking about it every message they had in this mv is slowly coming true... Pablo is really a genius and thinking ahead.
What’s so interesting about the EP’s of SB19 is that the carrier singles represent the theme of that particular EP.
WHAT? is the carrier single or PAGSIBOL (emergence, growth) the first of 3 EPs they plan to release. Their promotions included the symbol “?” and centred around SB19’s search for their musical identity
Then their 2nd EP is PAGTATAG! (strengthening, solidifying) and the carrier single is GENTO which showcases the discovery of their identity. The symbol they used for promotions is “!”
Their last EP, yet to be released is going to be called SIMULA AT WAKAS (beginning and end) which would most likely use the “.” or period as main symbol.
All of their songs were written by the members themselves, primarily PABLO, who also produced most of their songs and who also has his own solo music releases (he’s won an international songwriting competition with his brother).
Anyway, just thought you might appreciate these tiny bits of information.
If you have time, you should review their MV of BAZINGA. There’s another song that’s a fan favorite but does not have an MV, it’s called MANA - I think you’ll find that one interesting because the production of that song is top notch. Another fan favorite is the song CRIMZONE which has a lyric video.

Father in the lyrics refer to God. Filipinos often pray saying Ama namin? Our Father in Heaven. Pablo is saying here that their amulet and protection comes from God.

Its interesting to hear a foreigner's take and interpretation on their lyrics. As a filipino, sometimes i take things too litterally what with all the cultural references. Like the line in the chorus on not needing bullets to raise the flag. Historically, the Philippines was colonized for a long time. We really had to fight for our country. With bullets and machetes and just generally weapons. But now they only need music to raise the flag so to speak. Your metaphorical interpretation makes more sense lmao

All of their songs (almost) used methapors. Their lyricist, Pablo, their leader, was a graduate of AB English and is interested in poetry and the likes, thus the methapors in every song. Also, What? is the start of the shift in their music. They were tagged before as a kp*p wannabes, but they answered those people with this song.
