Nema 17 Stepper Motor has no Torque!?

  • Power is inversely related to the resistance of your stepper motor. So if you have a motor with 3 ohms of coil resistance, then you're going to have 10x the power as a motor with 35 ohms of coil resistance. #shorts

    There is something you may not know, its true want you said about the motors up to a point. Many people don't quit understand how to used the torque of these special class of brushless DC motors. When creating a controls, the step pulse is the best way to get the maximum torque out of a stepper motor. Many of the controllers out there only do wave stepping for bipolar and unipolar two phase steppers. There are other methods to pulse steppers and there is the half-step but the most powerful is the torque-step. I won't go through all these things here but know that these methods are done either using FPGAs or Micro-controllers and firmware. Do a little research into these methods and you can get an h-bridge and a microcontroller and develop with not too much effort a custom controller for your NEMA getting the most torque using the above mentioned stepping. 👍

    Dude..i kid you not im trying to make a robot to train for boxing that throws different punches. I already was thinking if using a pool noodle with a aluminum tubing inside the noodle. I just went to youtube to see what kind of torque a nema 17 could produce. So ironic that the first video i see is for almost the same idea😂

    how about givin more voltage to that bigger resistance motor? After all P=U*I so in theory if it stand same current that bigger resistance motor will give more torque with same current because voltage is higher.

    • @chasemadison
      @chasemadison  Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, that works. These l298n drivers will just use whatever voltage you supply to them, but most other drivers I've played with allow you to set the current somehow, and then the driver figures out what voltage needs to be run.
      Just make sure you don't run more current than the motor is rated for.

      i think it is because they have different RPM

    • @orange_tweleve
      @orange_tweleve Před rokem +2

      There are current and voltage limits for each motor tho . The resistance of the coil shows the nimber of windings each coil has therefore more coil windings = more power but also higher resistance as more windings mean longer wire = higher resistance. The rpm depends solely on your coil energizing frequency tho

    Good video, i have a 2009 Altima with a CVT trash mission, i changed the stepper motor, the valve body and my car still driving 20 miles and hr with not reverse, what do you think is the problem with this transmission? Do you think is rhe stepper motor?

    is 2 Ohms good?

    • @chasemadison
      @chasemadison  Před 3 lety +1

      My guess is that i2 Ohms should give you a descent amount of torque. But you really have to check the datasheet. Power is Current * Voltage. And V = I (current) * Resistance. So if you move some numbers around you will see that it's about how much Voltage and therefore current you supply to the motor. A lot of stepper motor drivers, allow you to set the current that goes to the motor, and you just have to make sure you aren't giving it more current than the motor is rated for.
