G-Dragon got the award for 2013 MAMA Best Dance performance for Crooked MV. Guess what, there was NO DANCING at all in that MV 😂! Thats what he was pissed about. MAMA was just giving the awards nicely so that everyone got something. It was not truly recognising real talent but more about pleasing everyone.
Fun Fact: male idols are prohibited from showing both nipples and all tatts has to be covered… as you can see YB was also “dissing” in his own way 😂

I believe that YG artists stopped going to MAMA after 2016, as they were known for "fixing", randomly deleting votes (the public was part of the voting process) and ONLY giving awards to an artist if they agreed to attend the show beforehand. I think other companies stopped going to the shows as well for a while.
yeah, 2015 was the last time YG artists went to MAMA.
And as you said, other companies also stopped. i would say the major boycotts were YG and SM, which being major labels means that a pool of big artists stopped attending.
However, recently YG returned with Treasure, most likely due to being coviid and the promotions for the newly debuted group were limited, im not sure about SM tho.

Big Bang and GD always made the awards shows like their own concert! You never see the crowd and other artists getting into performances like they did back when they performed, it was a different time so much better!! ❤❤
Enjoyed reaction. What I've read about the dis. is that rather than actually giving awards to people who deserve them, MAMA try to share them out equally amongst the most popular groups/agencies to keep fans and everyone happy. This meant that some younger or less well known/established artists might deserve an award - but not get one. In other words, the awards were a bit of a fix. In 2013 (the year before this) G Dragon got 4 solo awards at MAMA, including one for his dance in his single Crooked. He felt that the dance content of Crooked didn't deserve the award more than others (maybe given to him as compensation from MAMA for his song Crooked not recieving best song award?) I read that he felt he was okay with the three awards but the fourth one for best dance should have been given to someone else who deserved it more that year (like his fellow group member Seungri.) This is the gist of it I think. Btw - BIGBANG went to MAMA 2015 and did the closing set which was amazing!

Again, I don't know since when this narrative has been pushed but this is not true. GD was livid because of the 2NE1 issue at the time. This was the start of YG's beef with MAMA because they completely ignored 2NE1 even though they had the most acclaimed K-Pop album of the year that got international attention as well but they didn't even get nominated because Park Bom's smoking scandal came up. That's why GD dissed MAMA saying that the OGs who've established themselves are getting ignored to please the fans of newer groups and the best music isn't being appreciated.
This has nothing to do with Crooked. That's a pretty weak reason to DISS the award show. This was for MAMA's bias against YG.
@@mariar3767 the point of choreography isn't about which is the most technical and difficult. Yes that is one aspect but awards for dance are given to those mostly which have had huge impact. And Crooked's dance was copied by EVERYONE, especially those iconic kicks during the chorus. All idols, everyone loved that dance that's why it got the award. This wasn't the reason why GD dissed the award.
This performance is just LEGEND. The swag, the attitude, the fans, everything that just screams GD and BB are Kings! GD is just one of a kind, so many people try to copy his look, music, swag, fashion but he is THE original and can’t be duplicated. I have not seen another performance that tops this.
MAMA without Bigbang becomes a dance competition amongst the popular male and female groups. 2015 was the last time Bigbang or any of its members went. So we are now in 2023. I am hoping Taeyang will make a big splash to take over the big stage one again with a beautiful rendition of Seed then transition to Shoong feat. Lalisa. Then lastly the MAMA BB anthem, Fantastic Baby with GD and Daesung joining him as a surprise. 😁🙏
iKON 2015 MAMA next please, they're the only boygroup that has stage presence closer to BIGBANG and they're onky a 3 month old group during that time.... their energy on stage is incredibly crazy....

MAMA awards are notorious for making up categories for awards just to give to artists for ratings or for them to not get on the bad side of popular artists with no merit placed on the creativity or sound of the music. GD called them out and basically said he doesn't care if he wins another MAMA award. Give them to younger artists who are good but struggling to find a audience.
2014 was the year I first discovered anything korean and BigBang and 2NE1 became my first addiction to K-pop 💜

I just realized this was also the same MAMA year that Bobby who was also with YG won Show Me The Money (SMTM3); become the first Kpop artist to do so--and only one at this point. However, Bobby (iKON) were trained by Big Bang and personally G-Dragon.

They didn't take his award to give thg o others, not the reason why he wrote that dissing rap on spot. It was because they gave award not based on talent or performance. GD himself won 4 wards year prior, which in some case he thinks other artists is more deserving.

I think the dis in the beginning is that the producers of the awards are giving awards to the new groups instead of who has the best music. Now that he's older he's over it. Its common for adults to give children an envelope of spending money that's what the allowance comment was at the end. Basically saying he's major and they're just children
you got a point! but i don't think he had beef with new groups/singers at that time... since the diss is towards mama, maybe he directed the allowance part at them as well, like he's saying mama is running out of money and seeking attention by giving awards to ppl that don't deserve them so he'll give mama some money himself since he's already full. just a theory lol this diss track is hard to interpret..
