Hmmm, UK number plates are are so large that they cover the key release for the boot/trunk. Australian number plates are much smaller and clear of lock.
Paul. The number plate problem is DVLA. If you were in the US, then you have access without removing the number plate due to size. Or a jaguar design fault?
I have an XJ8 but my son has a rare pre-production VX55 XK and unless I'm mistaken the "Secret Lock" is only a secret because UK number plates cover it. If it is a secret lock to gain access in the event of a flat battery its one of the worst design features to be put on a car as the lock works electrically so cant open the boot if you have a flat battery. Should just be a manual lock as if you cant get power to that lock there is zero way of gaining access to the boot unless you drill out the lock.
You have opened the electronic boot lock with a completely flat battery? I know about the passenger door as behind the passenger seats is where the jump points are.

People can underestimate these kind of nuggets, but have been stuck here in a BMW after a fuse failed. Thanks for sharing, keep up the great content.
Just bought an XK so I'm very glad to find your channel
Another top tip from Paul. Keep the knowledge flowing buddy 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Interesting. Nice to see actually where this thing is.
This definitely saved my day when I had a flat battery. Just worth remembering that as soon as the battery gets some juice it will set the alarm off 😁
👍
Once you know, you know.

USA too..
I think it looks better hidden. I wouldn’t want that lock exposed as it would make the car look dated.
Great content like your videos on the jag, my jag sameyear & model the seats are stuck in recliner position is there anyway to reset them. Thanks
It's a visit to a diagnostic machine for a reset I'm afraid

USA plates are much better than UK 😉

They do actually work mechanically with no power. Also another lock is behind cover on the passenger door handle 👍
