I never understood the war between Rem and Emilia. Arguing over “Rem is better” or Emilia is better”. It’s based on your own preference. I personally think both teams are great because each have their strengths and weaknesses. I may like Rem more than Emilia but I can say that I chose Rem not because of her obsessive nature. It’s because of how nice she can really be and how inspirational she can be. You can argue Emilia is the same way. You’re absolutely correct, but just like how Rem is obsessive, Emilia is also dependent on two very important people in her life, Puck and Subaru. So to say one is better than the other isn’t really factual since 1. they are both good and 2. Neither one is perfect and they both have flaws that they need to overcome as characters.
@Ambridge Well see she does still have character growth and has more flaws than loving Subaru. One of those flaws is her inferiority complex. She constantly downplays herself when comparing herself to her sister, Emilia or hell even Subaru. As the series goes on she is going to be able to push past that character flaw that has been with her since she was a child. So her character growth isn’t over when she just tells Subaru she loves him.

Since Rem’s memories are still in the hall of memories, I feel like she won’t get them back and will be told on how she once was, eventually I believe she will learn from her past self’s mistakes and start to get over her once inferiority complex and become a version of herself that is nice and caring, but not so hard on herself to the point of putting others above herself. I think Subaru will help her with that since he and Emilia went through the same predicament
@Ambridge Nah I feel like she will, since she isn’t really a side character but one of the main important characters along with someone like Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, Otto etc. She will get development, otherwise there would’ve been no concrete point on bringing her back. I mean I get the whole push Emilia more to Subaru thing but he could do that with other characters like for example, Shaula from arc 6. So I feel like Rem will get some development during arc 7 or in the future.

Also I kind of don’t see Rem falling for Subaru being the only character development she can receive in arc 7 especially how their relationship is rn. She still has the connection with Ram and it would be interesting to see how she interacts with Ram without her memories (if she doesn’t get them back at the end of this arc). I personally feel like she won’t just be used to push Emilia and Subaru forward, but who knows what can happen in the end. Arc 7 is still in the building stages after all

Rem's character growth doesn't sit quite right with me. She's initially presented as someone who's always compensating and very unhealthily attached to her own sister, to the point where her entire identity depends on serving her. After her arc I would have loved to see her character spread her wings and start forming meaningful, healthy bonds with more people, but what seemed to happen instead was.... Rem forming an extreme attachment to Subaru, to the point where her entire identity depends on serving him. Doesn't feel like growth. In contrast to Subaru, who after the Betelgeuse arc you can tangibly see his growth in the way he approaches all his interactions from that point forward, and how he spreads out his support network. To ship SubaruxRem, or even appreciate their friendship, I think I'd first need to see Rem become her own person and form her own bonds in a way that doesn't completely depend on a single obsessive target (Ram, and then Subaru).
I mean tbh she was kinda commanded to by Roswell. She is absolutely dedicated to his cause, partly because to everybody else, he is a fucking genius of foresight whose predictions are ridiculously accurate, and she has absolute faith in his plans and personality enough to be able to call him out when he clearly isn’t thinking straight. We get to see all of his fatal mistakes, she doesn’t. But the anime skips quite a bit of arguably pretty pedantic parts of arc 1 and 2 that show a much better view of their development. Rem, despite her admiration can and will back talk him and tell him when he’s in the wrong. She actually opens up to Emilia. (Also the part of her building meaningful relationships is undercut that the only person she can be genuine to is Subaru, and this is still baggage that she’s had for 10 years. And the fact that she’s a maid relegated to communication with like 5 people) Despite all this, Rem is still pretty fucked. Subaru only really manages to become someone she can be honest with and won’t have negative repacussion. She still can’t approach her sister because it’s a 2 way street, and Ram hasn’t made any effort to either. You can’t fix years of trauma and repressed emotion with magic character development and 2 months. Rems character development isn’t done yet I think relegating the agreeably small development she got to “just serving his character” is really reductive, and I would like an example of how you feel that her character should have grown given the constraints of the story. She is her own character, flaws and all. Ps. She’s also the only person at least early on that cares enough to have high expectations of him and be understanding when he makes mistakes along the way.

I would have loved to see the scene you mention where she opens up to Emilia, but as it is now in the anime, it doesn't feel like she's grown at all, the impression I got was rather that she replaced Ram's place with Subaru, which isn’t still a healthy attitude for her. Which kind of stood out to me all the more after seeing Subaru's amazing character development during the Betelgeuse arc. OTOH After reading your comment I'll concede that I expected her character development to grind to a halt after that arc since that's how it usually goes in these sort of narou-kei LNs (which tend to have every new arc focus on a different heroine and then ditch them, and Re;Zero admittedly has proven not to fit that kind of format), so I'll say that I'm excited to see where the story ultimately takes her. I just really hope that at some point she gets to have her own bonds and support network that don't revolve around a single person. Ultimately as far as the first 3-4 arcs go, I just think she isn't in a good/healthy state of mind as a person. Full disclosure again, the entire point of my first comment was to kind of justify my "meh" stance on the SubaruxRem thing, not to shit on her as a character. As a side note, your comment might have been the final straw to what pushes me to finally go and read the LNs :p
Pixel Soda I will entirely concede to being too defensive, ‘it’s a fault of mine. But Rem discourse within the community from both sides is rather rancid. Yeah, most character’s aren’t done their development and whenever I see people genuinely shut on Emilia for being underdeveloped it gets to me as well. Hell even Subaru’s barely started at the end of Arc 3. Imo, I agree with your sentiment that Rem isn’t really ready for a romantic relationship, she still has a mountain of garbage to unpack and lots of growth beyond just being nurturing. Full disclosure tho, the rest of the book touches on Subaru and Rems relationship, but mostly focuses on his journey and general relationships with the rest of that world (it’s his story after all), if you like the story beyond nonsense waifu wars I definitely recommend picking up the LN. And again apologies. (Also, LN also deals with Rems pretty bad behaviours as well, which i personally like as a fan of the char)

Of course, beyond Rem and Emilia, at the end of the day I really like Tappei's take on the isekai 'genre', the lore of the world he created, and the way the characters are all interlaced with each other like in a real, breathing world, which is what's been keeping me so engrossed in Re:Zero. truth is the game was rigged from the start. in the latest episode you can see his room is literally full of white haired figurines. Emilia is his waifu, no wonder he's so possessive.
that should be related to that it's a trial, however since he didn't comment on it, it was most likely like that from the beginning. But something I want to clarify as a light novel reader is that we never saw any white or silver haired figurines, or any mention of them. There was however 2 posters of Silver/White haired waifus.

I definitely think Emilia should end up with Subaru, but Rem will always be my best girl. It’s a different type of spectrum that’s based solely on my personal opinion, as it is for everyone, which is why I think it’s pointless to argue over who is “best girl” because that title is determined based on personal preference. Whatever logic about who is best suited for Subaru doesn’t matter all that much, because Subaru is in love with Emilia. Thank you for highlighting both characters well and arguing for both sides
Reading LN and WN and Subaru doesn't really want to choose at all. Besides the reason Rem was rejected was because she was sacrificing herself for Subaru too much and he felt like he would be motivating her further to hurt herself for his sake if he didn't.
subaru loves rem and emilia equally, but it will take time for him to understan if this love is romantic or family like. and the fact satella power make him attached to her and emilia is a nuisance.
To me it kinda boils down to this; Subaru doesn't like himself. He's trying to make things right for everyone out of empathy, but it's beyond his ability a lot of the time and he blames himself. Additionally, he isn't exactly the most virtuous either, something Emilia rightfully calls him out on. Subaru has to change, and he knows it. Rem is there to support him. She tells him, he's already great. He doesn't need to try, he can run away and live far from any conflict with her. And it's very, very tempting to be able to put all the suffering aside, as well as the hard work that changing yourself involves. But he symbolically and physically rejects that option, because he knows it's not the right choice for him. Because he knows he has to continue, trying and failing. And at the end of the path is Emilia, the girl who doesn't want him to fawn over her, but who wants him as her equal. Part of why he idolizes her is because he admires her virtues and her conviction. He sees her as shining and bright and himself as depressing and below that brightness. He realizes that he doesn't just want the girl, he also wants to get closer to her in value. He wants to be an equal adopting her brightness into his own self. Rem still is very much an important part of this journey. She loves him the way he is. She loves him unconditionally. And I think she also realizes that he can't become happy if he stays the way he is when she confesses to him. She is happy to be by his side as his closest supporter, as someone to remind him of what he has already accomplished. But in that way, Rem is also kind of an Otaku fantasy. The girl who just wants to see you happy. The girl who cares no matter what and her unwavering support will always be a safe haven for you to come back to. The girl who cares about your happiness more than her own, because your happiness is also her happiness. And as Subaru moves away from his Otaku, self-indulgent life style to become a decent, reliable person, he also has to give up on that fantasy. Which is part of why the current events in the Anime (Season 2, Episode 3), are so devastating. He can't rely on her support for now. He has to get up and do what he can by himself. Which alredy shows how he has grown from the moment when she confessed. So I can see people who argue he should be with loving Rem. Especially if they relate to Subaru a lot, and are like "how can you not take this chance? She's literally perfect! I'd give everything to have a girl as strong and supportive as her!" But I will always see getting equal with Emilia (not even necessarily romancing her) as the logical conclusion to Subaru's journey.
Thing is the writer even noted Emilia is the most beautiful character in their eyes and writing them is difficult because she's such a good person. Emilia does love Subaru, does support him but she has her own trauma's and reasons as to why it's difficult. They're a slow burn and for some reason people don't like slow burns. Emilia is the reason Subaru grew so much which is what the author wanted. She makes him become a better person. So I agree with you on Emilia, but I can't help but see Rem with Subaru as unhealthy. But the LN kind of put me off the show, don't know if you know the spoilers but if it ends as poly, I'd be so disappointed. I think Subaru became someone Rem clings to, but Subaru wont ever do anything that would betray his main love. I'm worried re:zero will get messy and the girls will be more attached to Subaru than be their own person.

Additionally, I feel Rem's a bit too self-sacrificial to enter a relationship with anyone, period. I don't know anything beyond the most current episode of the Anime airing, but a threesome wouldn't just be disappointing, it would go against so much of Subaru's development, and even the themes of the story.

I like both Emilia and Rem so I guess that probably why I don’t have a problem with the poly but you shouldn’t be concerned since it’s most likely isn’t going to go that way. Plus I do agree that it will most likely ruin Subaru’s development, but not by much imo. I personally feel like the development that he going through in the second season isn’t going to be for nothing if gets with both Emilia and Rem. He’s have developed so much from then to the point where he wouldn’t need to heavily rely on Rem. Hell maybe not even Emilia at that point. But yeah, I don't like that blind loyalty Rem has with Subaru, and I think that personality is what drags most fans to her. Someone who will be at your side, no matter what. I think Subaru loves both Emilia and Rem equally but ranked them number 1 and 2 in his heart because he made a promise to himself to Emilia first (to protect her and help her win the throne in Lagunica) but he also made a promise to Rem later on, which is to save her and curing her coma. These two promises, in my opinion, are his main motivations throughout the show.
The witch didn't pretend to be who Subaru was attached to more. She used her faceless bride that showed Subaru the person he wanted to see the most. At that moment the person he wanted to see the most was Rem awake who was in her sleeping beauty state.
This is amazing and true. I am a Rem stan, you emphasized the two of them here CORRECTLY, you didn't side with anyone of them, thus showed us that they two are supposed to be stanned.
Excellent video as always. Both Rem and Emilia are great women and Subaru would be lucky to end up with either of them. Out of the two though, Subaru has actually earned Rem's love at this point in the story whereas I don't feel like he is quite there with Emilia yet. Rem and Subaru understand and accept eachother after everything they have gone through. Rem's story, while having depth, is not quite as complex as Emilia's seems to be. At this point in the story, Emilia is still an enigma in some ways, even to herself. Subaru does understand her on some level, but there's also many things about her he does not understand and the same can be said about her towards him. On top of that, Emilia is in many ways the heroine of the story (not just in Subaru's mind) and Subaru needs to become a hero of equal caliber to be worthy of her...so until then, I still choose Rem. They just fit better together at this point in the story.
Well. They should've ended up with each other on any normal circumstances.. But the plot doesn't allow it. So.... Just remember that best girl always lose.. So.. Obviously Emilia will win but that doesn't mean she's the best girl.. That just means she's the heroine.

Here's some examples. her self h*tred, low self worth, h*ting her own appearance and her selflessness was literally presented in the first episode, when she helped a guy she doesn't know anything about, she dropped her insignia hunt risking her future to be the next queen for a guy she doesn't know anything about and stayed the whole time till he got his consciousness back and then told him that he doesn't owe her anything because she thinks that being around a half elf and because of the way people look at her is going to bring harm to anyone with her and also because of her self h*tred she said "my name is Satilla" but since Subaru is not from this world that name didn't mean anything for him or the fact that she's a half elf. Not just this situation but she did it at the royal selaction too, the thing that made me actually love her way more is her arguments with Subaru, like when he was full of himself and was acting selfish, he used Emilia and his feeling for her to justify his pride and she called him out on his bs but she decided to think of him as good person and literally lied to herself and bought his lie that he did it for her, she tried pushing him away so he could stop hurting himself for her, she still thought about him first before even herself. And fun fact : the author said she's the most selfless person in the Re:zero world. At this point she showed me way more personality than Rem that her whole character just revolves around Subaru and following him around. Emilia want him to be angry at her ( just like what Subaru wanted from his parents) she wants him to point out her mistakes because she thought that he doesn't believe in her and expect nothing from her or else he would be angry at her (again that's the same thing Subaru wanted from his parents), they both don't value themselves enough and they both put others above themselves ( Subaru stated that he want to save everyone not just Emilia and that's not like Rem which does that just for the people she's obsessed with) or how they both were without any friends and they didn't have a social life. both Emilia and Subaru have self h*tred, Emilia h*te that everyone despise her because of something she can't control, she h*te that's she's getting special treatment because of something she can't control, she h*te that everyone around her suffer because of something she can't control and that's exactly what she did in the royal selection, that self h*tred and lack of control over things going on their lives something that Subaru understand the most. Note that I haven't even talked about the reason to believe episode. And i haven't compered how Emilia think to how Rem use her head with her unrealistic love, switching from h*ting Subaru to loving him in a span of one day and even devoting herself and getting obsessed with him, even Subaru fell in love at the lap pillow scene according to the LN after around a month.
I just think Emilia is so much better of a choice then rem. Trust me, I love Rem and I think her character development is great, but the shit Subaru has gone through for Emilia is just, insane. He's died countless times trying to save her, so I think Emilia would be a better choice cause it's what Subaru's fought for.
true but its not like Subaru also doesn't love rem, he even confesses to her in s1 of the anime (white fox just cut it because they like starting waifu wars, lmao), also it wasn't shown but Subaru would die for rem countless times as well just to save her, he slit his throat the second he realized rem might have been gone and even in cut content killed himself multiple other times just to try have a small chance just save rem from her coma, even after the whale fight in the light novel when rem faked her death Subaru tells rem directly he would have killed himself if rem died. So to me, subaru views the two as both important figures in his life and wants both of them by his side even if thats being selfish.
I really like the video, it presents us how any of the 2 main girls can be main characters in another story and how much personality they have. The Rem monologue is the best moment is the whole Re:Zero until now, and a peak for the series until the trials end. I was shocked that Rem is so mature in actions that she accepts that Subaru loves another person, and it's ok for her to let him with Emilia. She loves him because he saved her from her internal demons. Tho I still prefer Emilia and the way she evolves and learn lessons with Subaru is so beautiful. The last episodes of season 2 closes all the struggle with a nice bow, but I have a feeling like this happiness won't last forever and some external conflict will put our main characters to work.
I will be even more anxiously awaiting January than I was. I can proudly say that there is never been a single instance where I broke and read the manga. And I have no intention of doing that with re:zero. I waited half a decade for bleach, a few months should be easy.

Love is the most descriminating force on earth. By choosing one partner, you reject everyone else. No wonder it can be so cruel. Some viewers prefer Rem, some prefer Emilia (as I). There are emotional and logical reasons for both, but in the end the decision is up to Subaru. The reason Rem states for why she loves him inspite of the things he said being true is exactly the reason why Subaru fell in love with Emilia first. The excessive hate Subaru recieved after episode 18 is mainly due to a lack of context up to this point in my oppinion. Now that season 2 has aired, it is easy to make a strong case for Emilia, but back then we only really knew Rem.
Meanwhile frederica getting the short end of the stick because in the anime they rushed to the trial and we got no character explanation on her. NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED, CHARACTERS WERE STRAIGHT UP REMOVED FROM THE VILLAGE PART
I guess this is the "You got me in the first half not gonna lie" video. My take on Rem or Emilia is at the most basic level is, Rem loves Subaru who loves Emilia, therefore, Subaru x Emilia is the "correct" choice. I didn't make the connection with Subaru and Emilia because somewhere inside, I was convinced that Rem was the "better" girl. Mostly because I haven't seen much from Emilia yet (Haven't read the LN or OVA). It's just that Subaru accepting Rem after that and basically spend the next 7 episode of Subaru doing something for someone who he feels 2nd place for him just feels wrong. So "The Case for Emilia" was an interesting analysis on Emilia and her parallel to Subaru. And for a more personal opinion, I just purely hated the "Rem this, Rem that" discourse at the time (still do), and distanced my self from Re Zero (until season 2). Despite that I never hated Re Zero, I stopped being vocal about it. I don't hate Rem, in fact I like her. But I don't want to say that I do. Kinda similar to Kimetsu no Yaiba and Pokemon XY, I'll never be able to express my joy and appreciation for it cause the surrounding discourse is just as braindead and MASSIVE as it was for Rem and that made me extremely discouraged to even talk about it.
My take is that people who can’t ship in polys are boring. RemXSubaruXEmilia is trivial. Also it means RemXEmilia happens, thus making all of us the winner.

"Rem is the obvious choice"... No. This man was murdered. Straight up. Dead. She killed him. Twice. You don't just look past someone killing you, no matter the circumstances. No matter what they do since. That is not something you just look past. Even if you can come back, you still experienced death at their hands. No matter how they help you, that's not something you just get past. Rem is not only not an obvious choice. She's not a choice. She was never a choice. She will never be a choice unless you completely understate how utterly horrifying and painful dying would be.
I'm not saying that he should have wound up with Emilia by the way. That is not the arguement I want to make. This Rem doesn't know that, she didn't experience doing those things herself. It is not the present Rem's fault. The thing is that Subaru does. He lived through all of that and died at the end. Plus I feel like he forgives her because of the circumstances behind it. Granted the first and 2nd loop wasn’t her/his fault. But the 3rd loop was mostly because he was acting very suspicious. Smelling like the witch and staying at the mansion for free is enough to make anyone at that mansion worry and keep an eye on him.

Both are the perfect choice. Each one will find the counterpart with which he most identifies and desires. Subaru loves both, that is clear in the novel, it is inconsequential not to love them both. What will happen in the end is the author's decision, I hope that is well reflected in the dynamics of the characters.

Yeah I kinda agree, but remember. If it's not Emilia, Subaru will be more prideful than he is at the first episode. If Subaru still gets those sweet treatments, he will be more prideful cuz no one corrects him about what's right and what's wrong. But that just how realistic their relationship are, there's no such thing as perfect relationship, Rem is the best girl, I fucking agree. But for who I prefer as my partner, it has to be Emilia, Emilia is imperfect yet so perfect as a partner. If Emilia personality as perfect as Rem, Subaru won't get development at all, he will still be that prideful asshole at the first episode. I think, to me the major dealbreaker for Emilia is the fact that she is a child. She does great things, helps people regardless of her own situation, it's wonderful. She is the kind of a person to enter a burning house to save a child. But though their personalities are admirable, the reality is usually very harsh to these people. Very few can afford this naive and reckless benevolence - someone like Reinhardt, or Subaru for different reasons. People who enter the burning building die before they know what killed them. Emilia needs Subaru as a safety net, even though she doesn't realize it. Having a cat spirit guardian with a fucked up mentality can only take her so far. Rem vs Emilia controversy is mostly about picking someone you need vs someone who needs you. Sometimes, you want both.
You call her a child for risking her life even at the expense of gaining nothing from it. Thats called being a good person. That reckless behavior and love for her people is a quality none of the other candidates have.

The world makes him struggle for every life he wants to save, but Emilia avoids that struggle thanks to the safety net of her own OP abilities and Subaru's protection. I think the main theme of Re;Zero is “being able to accept one another and one’s self, even when you don’t know or accept everything about another person or one’s self”. That is why the author chose Emilia as Subaru’s love interest to pursue. Emilia doesn’t understand everything Subaru goes through, and Subaru doesn’t understand everything that Emilia goes through. But, he must keep trying to persuade her heart and this conflict pushes him to become a better person. Rem is the exact opposite. She is the perfect partner that will accept Subaru for all of his faults, because Subaru accepted her for all of her own faults. Having Subaru accept Rem’s proposal would’ve been a bad decision for the writer, but Emilia should’ve received a lot more characterization and development to make her as equally of a compelling choice as Rem.
I think the best waifu, in most if not all cases, is the one who makes both people involved the best person they can be. Relationships are meant to build both up, be complimentary and supplementary in the sense that both people complete each other and add to each other. After all, if both of them can't gain something palpable from the relationship, then it's a one-sided, unrealistic relationship that often is formed from dreamlike expectations and a sense of selfish desire rather than a sense of duty to the other. As a result, I think Rem is better. Even in the video, Rem's case is based heavily on her character changing as a result of Subaru coming into her life, and the same can be said about Subaru. They compliment each other perfectly. At the same time, they supplement each other with their unyielding support and friendship, and this culminates in a realistic, grounded relationship. Emilia's case was based heavily on the similarities shared between Subaru and Emilia as well as the ideals Subaru has, not the ideals that Emilia has. It's one-sided. They don't seem to compliment each other because they are so similar, so they fail to bring something unique for the other to learn from. They can't help each other grow and become better people without the outside help of people like Rem. To summarize, Rem helps Subaru grow and Subaru does the same for Rem. It was Rem's efforts that helped Subaru. All Emilia did was be the reward of Subaru's hero's journey. Also, I haven't watched any of season 2 or read any of the source material, so who am I to say?
I feel like Subaru gets too much flak for rejecting Rem. Yeah, sure, he could have worded it differently (like way differently) but Emilia didn’t fricken kill Subaru (twice) so I can understand why he rejected Rem and why he has undying love for Emilia. Rem is definitely best girl, but Subaru loves Emilia and that’s his choice, not Rem’s. And even after all that, she still trusts, supports, and loves Subaru even after he rejected her. Rem owns the best chapters of Arches 3 and 6, the best, most exciting moments in the whole history. Her relationship with Subaru is complex, multifaceted and interesting to watch. Yes, Rem is not perfect. She can be too impulsive, which sometimes leads her to unreasonable actions. She also seems to be too carried away in her love. But this is also her advantage. The fact that Rem is not an ideal character makes her more human and closer to Subaru as well. Therefore, I will always choose Rem.
As you say, Subaru's infatuation with Emilia seems to stem in big parts to him imprinting Emilia as The Heroine which is not very "romantic" and she just seems like a run-of-the-mill "kind and helpful" main character. IMO Rem has earned her place, while Emilia has yet to have a moment to shine, at least in season in.
We only see Emilia in the eyes of Subaru in arc 1,2,3 (except the Royal Candidate Meeting) Subaru isn't drunk on Emilia he's obsessed of the Idea that he has to be with her but it blooms into real love at the end Of Arc 3.

I appreciate a CZcams video that is clear in it's title and the creator makes their thesis statement in the first 5s. Just watched this, and Rem was so much better than Emilia. Too bad.... I don't know how they will write her character off. The way Rem would chase Su to the ends of the earth to save him gives one chills. The time she chased him to the cave full of villains and then getting all her limbs twisted, damn near killing her, to later crawl into Su's arms. That shit was crazy. All those Rem sacrificing moments for Su that involves her death, just created a land slide case against Emelia. In the End when Su confesses his love for Emelia and he tells her he doesn't need an immediate response and will make sure to make her fall in love with him... thats huge simp energy. On the other hand Rem readily confesses her love and dies for him, multiple times!!!! I got nothing against Emelia but if they want her to be the main one the writers better do a proper job!

Emilia says even if Subaru loves rem when she regain her memories she will just work harder to make him love her even more even Subaru was surprised she doesn't plan to lose Subaru. And Beatrice is just as awesome as rem and emilia. Even though she isn't romantic towards Subaru she loves and protects him just as much as anyone and Subaru also loves beako he always tells her even in Emilia presence. But the love Subaru feel for emilia is unlike the love he has for rem or Beatrice he truly loves her from the bottom of his heart

Emilia was failing the trials because she didn't have her memories and kept going under the trials over and over again without any rest so she was destined to fail the trials this whole time regardless of how much she tried, Subaru left without telling her any thing and Puck too, the only one's who cared about her (Puck and Subaru) suddenly abandoned her without telling her a single word, people were insulting her and accusing her of making it snow even tho it was Roswell who did it and that's why she lost it because of all of those reasons combined. So yes Emilia is strong mentally and that's a fact.

Subaru is one of my favourite characters. Through Rem's story I fell in love with his character a lot. I'm more so thinking about the future. As a person who likes slice of life I really want to see Rem and Subaru living together in Emelia's kingdom as two workers of equal standing. Helping each other with simple mundane tasks. I want to see Subaru explain a world Rem has never seen and Subaru do the same. I want to see them go on adventures far away to simply have a picnic because Subaru says he wants to get her the best view or something else he made up out of excitement while Rem is pretty sure Subaru just made it up right then. Tbh I've gotten a liking to Emelia after the village thing happened but I'm also too attached to Rem. I also think I want to see Emelia succeed in becoming Queen and marry someone who will understand Emelia's position more and give her support she needs in a kingdom at peace, I feel like everything between Subaru and Emelia is always at war, maybe I see that because my mind is biased, but I remember while Rem and Subaru were fighting that giant whale beast they could still say silly things and enjoy themselves XD
There's a funny thing my grampa said when he told me to watch this anime. "Rem is a waifu, Emilia is a wife." A year and a half later, when rewatching this anime for the seventh time, it really put his words into a bee perspective for me.
I like Emelia more (rem is also nice). The reason rem loves subaru is bcz he saved her life even though from rems pov they didn't know each other well and subaru had no reason so save rem. But from subarus pov he actually knew rem pretty well and its natural that he would want to save her. Now the reason why subaru fell in love with Emelia is actually similar to rems case. Emelia saved subaru, subaru fell for her. Now rem wants to be there for subaru cuz she loves him since he saved her before, similarly subaru wants to be there for Emelia cuz emelia saved him before. Now why did Emelia save him in the first place? It was completely out of kindness. Shes a kind soul, she helped someone whom she didn't know and expected nothing in return. Thats why i like Emelia more.
I think Emilia's inability to ignore a crying child when on a time crunch is a flaw, an exploitable weakness and that such lack of prioritization will make it harder for her to get anything done. She is too kind to live, let alone be a ruler. Then again, the three main Royal Candidates are already about as good as they're going to be, while Emilia and Felt have room to grow.

Personally I think he’s right we see more screen time a lot of it actually with rem we barely get to know Emilia as much as we do Rem actually I found it surprising how she was barely shown and wondered when she would come out but mostly it was Rem showing up. I’ve got nothing against rem I think she’s pretty awesome but most people really are just swayed by emotions and what makes them feel good in the moment. Without knowing Emilia as deeply as we do Rem. We barely know much about her she’s a mystery and most of what we see isn’t the happiest bits. But before a decision being made id still like to know who Emilia is fully it’s just not a fair comparison. If we give the same amount of screen time as rem got what if she’s a nice girl too? Then what now? It’s just not a fair comparison so I can’t say rem is better she is an awesome character and I like her but it’s just not a fair comparison to compare rem to Emilia when we see more of rem and barely anything of Emilia.

I never understood the war between Rem and Emilia. Arguing over “Rem is better” or Emilia is better”. It’s based on your own preference. I personally think both teams are great because each have their strengths and weaknesses. I may like Rem more than Emilia but I can say that I chose Rem not because of her obsessive nature. It’s because of how nice she can really be and how inspirational she can be. You can argue Emilia is the same way. You’re absolutely correct, but just like how Rem is obsessive, Emilia is also dependent on two very important people in her life, Puck and Subaru. So to say one is better than the other isn’t really factual since 1. they are both good and 2. Neither one is perfect and they both have flaws that they need to overcome as characters.
@Ambridge Well see she does still have character growth and has more flaws than loving Subaru. One of those flaws is her inferiority complex. She constantly downplays herself when comparing herself to her sister, Emilia or hell even Subaru. As the series goes on she is going to be able to push past that character flaw that has been with her since she was a child. So her character growth isn’t over when she just tells Subaru she loves him.

@Ambridge Nah I feel like she will, since she isn’t really a side character but one of the main important characters along with someone like Emilia, Beatrice, Ram, Otto etc. She will get development, otherwise there would’ve been no concrete point on bringing her back. I mean I get the whole push Emilia more to Subaru thing but he could do that with other characters like for example, Shaula from arc 6. So I feel like Rem will get some development during arc 7 or in the future.

Rem's character growth doesn't sit quite right with me. She's initially presented as someone who's always compensating and very unhealthily attached to her own sister, to the point where her entire identity depends on serving her.
After her arc I would have loved to see her character spread her wings and start forming meaningful, healthy bonds with more people, but what seemed to happen instead was.... Rem forming an extreme attachment to Subaru, to the point where her entire identity depends on serving him. Doesn't feel like growth. In contrast to Subaru, who after the Betelgeuse arc you can tangibly see his growth in the way he approaches all his interactions from that point forward, and how he spreads out his support network.
To ship SubaruxRem, or even appreciate their friendship, I think I'd first need to see Rem become her own person and form her own bonds in a way that doesn't completely depend on a single obsessive target (Ram, and then Subaru).

I mean tbh she was kinda commanded to by Roswell. She is absolutely dedicated to his cause, partly because to everybody else, he is a fucking genius of foresight whose predictions are ridiculously accurate, and she has absolute faith in his plans and personality enough to be able to call him out when he clearly isn’t thinking straight. We get to see all of his fatal mistakes, she doesn’t. But the anime skips quite a bit of arguably pretty pedantic parts of arc 1 and 2 that show a much better view of their development. Rem, despite her admiration can and will back talk him and tell him when he’s in the wrong. She actually opens up to Emilia. (Also the part of her building meaningful relationships is undercut that the only person she can be genuine to is Subaru, and this is still baggage that she’s had for 10 years. And the fact that she’s a maid relegated to communication with like 5 people)
Despite all this, Rem is still pretty fucked. Subaru only really manages to become someone she can be honest with and won’t have negative repacussion. She still can’t approach her sister because it’s a 2 way street, and Ram hasn’t made any effort to either. You can’t fix years of trauma and repressed emotion with magic character development and 2 months. Rems character development isn’t done yet
I think relegating the agreeably small development she got to “just serving his character” is really reductive, and I would like an example of how you feel that her character should have grown given the constraints of the story. She is her own character, flaws and all.
Ps. She’s also the only person at least early on that cares enough to have high expectations of him and be understanding when he makes mistakes along the way.

For one, I was kind of expecting Rem and Ram to have an open heart to heart about the baggage they've been living with for the past 10 years at the end of the arc, at the very least, and was completely disappointed when we didn't get that. I would have loved to see the scene you mention where she opens up to Emilia, but as it is now in the anime, it doesn't feel like she's grown at all, the impression I got was rather that she replaced Ram's place with Subaru, which isn’t still a healthy attitude for her. Which kind of stood out to me all the more after seeing Subaru's amazing character development during the Betelgeuse arc.
OTOH After reading your comment I'll concede that I expected her character development to grind to a halt after that arc since that's how it usually goes in these sort of narou-kei LNs (which tend to have every new arc focus on a different heroine and then ditch them, and Re;Zero admittedly has proven not to fit that kind of format), so I'll say that I'm excited to see where the story ultimately takes her. I just really hope that at some point she gets to have her own bonds and support network that don't revolve around a single person. Ultimately as far as the first 3-4 arcs go, I just think she isn't in a good/healthy state of mind as a person.
Full disclosure again, the entire point of my first comment was to kind of justify my "meh" stance on the SubaruxRem thing, not to shit on her as a character.

Yeah, most character’s aren’t done their development and whenever I see people genuinely shut on Emilia for being underdeveloped it gets to me as well. Hell even Subaru’s barely started at the end of Arc 3. Imo, I agree with your sentiment that Rem isn’t really ready for a romantic relationship, she still has a mountain of garbage to unpack and lots of growth beyond just being nurturing.
Full disclosure tho, the rest of the book touches on Subaru and Rems relationship, but mostly focuses on his journey and general relationships with the rest of that world (it’s his story after all), if you like the story beyond nonsense waifu wars I definitely recommend picking up the LN. And again apologies. (Also, LN also deals with Rems pretty bad behaviours as well, which i personally like as a fan of the char)

That sounds super cool actually, since one of the things that ruffled me in the anime was the vague feeling that it was treating Rem's one-sided, obsessive devotion to Subaru as a positive thing.
Of course, beyond Rem and Emilia, at the end of the day I really like Tappei's take on the isekai 'genre', the lore of the world he created, and the way the characters are all interlaced with each other like in a real, breathing world, which is what's been keeping me so engrossed in Re:Zero.

Reading LN and WN and Subaru doesn't really want to choose at all. Besides the reason Rem was rejected was because she was sacrificing herself for Subaru too much and he felt like he would be motivating her further to hurt herself for his sake if he didn't.
subaru loves rem and emilia equally, but it will take time for him to understan if this love is romantic or family like. and the fact satella power make him attached to her and emilia is a nuisance.
To me it kinda boils down to this;
Subaru doesn't like himself. He's trying to make things right for everyone out of empathy, but it's beyond his ability a lot of the time and he blames himself. Additionally, he isn't exactly the most virtuous either, something Emilia rightfully calls him out on.
Subaru has to change, and he knows it.
Rem is there to support him. She tells him, he's already great. He doesn't need to try, he can run away and live far from any conflict with her. And it's very, very tempting to be able to put all the suffering aside, as well as the hard work that changing yourself involves.
But he symbolically and physically rejects that option, because he knows it's not the right choice for him. Because he knows he has to continue, trying and failing.
And at the end of the path is Emilia, the girl who doesn't want him to fawn over her, but who wants him as her equal. Part of why he idolizes her is because he admires her virtues and her conviction. He sees her as shining and bright and himself as depressing and below that brightness. He realizes that he doesn't just want the girl, he also wants to get closer to her in value. He wants to be an equal adopting her brightness into his own self.
Rem still is very much an important part of this journey. She loves him the way he is. She loves him unconditionally. And I think she also realizes that he can't become happy if he stays the way he is when she confesses to him. She is happy to be by his side as his closest supporter, as someone to remind him of what he has already accomplished.
But in that way, Rem is also kind of an Otaku fantasy. The girl who just wants to see you happy. The girl who cares no matter what and her unwavering support will always be a safe haven for you to come back to. The girl who cares about your happiness more than her own, because your happiness is also her happiness. And as Subaru moves away from his Otaku, self-indulgent life style to become a decent, reliable person, he also has to give up on that fantasy.
Which is part of why the current events in the Anime (Season 2, Episode 3), are so devastating. He can't rely on her support for now. He has to get up and do what he can by himself. Which alredy shows how he has grown from the moment when she confessed.
So I can see people who argue he should be with loving Rem. Especially if they relate to Subaru a lot, and are like "how can you not take this chance? She's literally perfect! I'd give everything to have a girl as strong and supportive as her!"
But I will always see getting equal with Emilia (not even necessarily romancing her) as the logical conclusion to Subaru's journey.
Thing is the writer even noted Emilia is the most beautiful character in their eyes and writing them is difficult because she's such a good person. Emilia does love Subaru, does support him but she has her own trauma's and reasons as to why it's difficult. They're a slow burn and for some reason people don't like slow burns. Emilia is the reason Subaru grew so much which is what the author wanted. She makes him become a better person. So I agree with you on Emilia, but I can't help but see Rem with Subaru as unhealthy. But the LN kind of put me off the show, don't know if you know the spoilers but if it ends as poly, I'd be so disappointed. I think Subaru became someone Rem clings to, but Subaru wont ever do anything that would betray his main love. I'm worried re:zero will get messy and the girls will be more attached to Subaru than be their own person.

I've always been #TeamEmilia, because of basically everything you said. But yeah, I don't like that blind loyalty Rem has with Subaru, and I think that personality is what drags most fans to her. I think Subaru loves both Emilia and Rem equally but ranked them number 1 and 2 in his heart because he made a promise to himself to Emilia first (to protect her and help her win the throne in Lagunica) but he also made a promise to Rem later on, which is to save her and curing her coma. These two promises, in my opinion, are his main motivations throughout the show.
The witch didn't pretend to be who Subaru was attached to more. She used her faceless bride that showed Subaru the person he wanted to see the most. At that moment the person he wanted to see the most was Rem awake who was in her sleeping beauty state.

Echidna changed the game
Excellent video as always. Both Rem and Emilia are great women and Subaru would be lucky to end up with either of them. Out of the two though, Subaru has actually earned Rem's love at this point in the story whereas I don't feel like he is quite there with Emilia yet. Rem and Subaru understand and accept eachother after everything they have gone through. Rem's story, while having depth, is not quite as complex as Emilia's seems to be. At this point in the story, Emilia is still an enigma in some ways, even to herself. Subaru does understand her on some level, but there's also many things about her he does not understand and the same can be said about her towards him. On top of that, Emilia is in many ways the heroine of the story (not just in Subaru's mind) and Subaru needs to become a hero of equal caliber to be worthy of her...so until then, I still choose Rem. They just fit better together at this point in the story.
Well. They should've ended up with each other on any normal circumstances.. But the plot doesn't allow it. So.... Just remember that best girl always lose.. So.. Obviously Emilia will win but that doesn't mean she's the best girl.. That just means she's the heroine.

Yes, Emilia has more depth and personality than clinging to the MC searching for his d 24 hours a day, do you know that Rem literally was creeping on Subaru while he's sleeping and wanted to sexually assault him?, yes this overrated character tried to drug him and drink his saliva, what about acting dead after the whale fight and manipulating Subaru while he's in tears just to get a confession?, what about ruining her confession with the second wife bs?, obviously she had other intentions than just helping Subaru. This character is better than Emilia?, how is she better than anyone when you know all what she did?
Here's some examples.
her self h*tred, low self worth, h*ting her own appearance and her selflessness was literally presented in the first episode, when she helped a guy she doesn't know anything about, she dropped her insignia hunt risking her future to be the next queen for a guy she doesn't know anything about and stayed the whole time till he got his consciousness back and then told him that he doesn't owe her anything because she thinks that being around a half elf and because of the way people look at her is going to bring harm to anyone with her and also because of her self h*tred she said "my name is Satilla" but since Subaru is not from this world that name didn't mean anything for him or the fact that she's a half elf. Not just this situation but she did it at the royal selaction too, the thing that made me actually love her way more is her arguments with Subaru, like when he was full of himself and was acting selfish, he used Emilia and his feeling for her to justify his pride and she called him out on his bs but she decided to think of him as good person and literally lied to herself and bought his lie that he did it for her, she tried pushing him away so he could stop hurting himself for her, she still thought about him first before even herself. And fun fact : the author said she's the most selfless person in the Re:zero world. At this point she showed me way more personality than Rem that her whole character just revolves around Subaru and following him around.
Emilia want him to be angry at her ( just like what Subaru wanted from his parents) she wants him to point out her mistakes because she thought that he doesn't believe in her and expect nothing from her or else he would be angry at her (again that's the same thing Subaru wanted from his parents), they both don't value themselves enough and they both put others above themselves ( Subaru stated that he want to save everyone not just Emilia and that's not like Rem which does that just for the people she's obsessed with) or how they both were without any friends and they didn't have a social life.
both Emilia and Subaru have self h*tred, Emilia h*te that everyone despise her because of something she can't control, she h*te that's she's getting special treatment because of something she can't control, she h*te that everyone around her suffer because of something she can't control and that's exactly what she did in the royal selection, that self h*tred and lack of control over things going on their lives something that Subaru understand the most.
Note that I haven't even talked about the reason to believe episode. And i haven't compered how Emilia think to how Rem use her head with her unrealistic love, switching from h*ting Subaru to loving him in a span of one day and even devoting herself and getting obsessed with him, even Subaru fell in love at the lap pillow scene according to the LN after around a month.
I just think Emilia is so much better of a choice then rem. Trust me, I love Rem and I think her character development is great, but the shit Subaru has gone through for Emilia is just, insane. He's died countless times trying to save her, so I think Emilia would be a better choice cause it's what Subaru's fought for.

I really like the video, it presents us how any of the 2 main girls can be main characters in another story and how much personality they have. The Rem monologue is the best moment is the whole Re:Zero until now, and a peak for the series until the trials end. I was shocked that Rem is so mature in actions that she accepts that Subaru loves another person, and it's ok for her to let him with Emilia. She loves him because he saved her from her internal demons. Tho I still prefer Emilia and the way she evolves and learn lessons with Subaru is so beautiful. The last episodes of season 2 closes all the struggle with a nice bow, but I have a feeling like this happiness won't last forever and some external conflict will put our main characters to work.

Love is the most descriminating force on earth. By choosing one partner, you reject everyone else. No wonder it can be so cruel. Some viewers prefer Rem, some prefer Emilia (as I). There are emotional and logical reasons for both, but in the end the decision is up to Subaru. The reason Rem states for why she loves him inspite of the things he said being true is exactly the reason why Subaru fell in love with Emilia first.
The excessive hate Subaru recieved after episode 18 is mainly due to a lack of context up to this point in my oppinion. Now that season 2 has aired, it is easy to make a strong case for Emilia, but back then we only really knew Rem.

My take on Rem or Emilia is at the most basic level is, Rem loves Subaru who loves Emilia, therefore, Subaru x Emilia is the "correct" choice. I didn't make the connection with Subaru and Emilia because somewhere inside, I was convinced that Rem was the "better" girl. Mostly because I haven't seen much from Emilia yet (Haven't read the LN or OVA). It's just that Subaru accepting Rem after that and basically spend the next 7 episode of Subaru doing something for someone who he feels 2nd place for him just feels wrong. So "The Case for Emilia" was an interesting analysis on Emilia and her parallel to Subaru.
And for a more personal opinion, I just purely hated the "Rem this, Rem that" discourse at the time (still do), and distanced my self from Re Zero (until season 2). Despite that I never hated Re Zero, I stopped being vocal about it. I don't hate Rem, in fact I like her. But I don't want to say that I do. Kinda similar to Kimetsu no Yaiba and Pokemon XY, I'll never be able to express my joy and appreciation for it cause the surrounding discourse is just as braindead and MASSIVE as it was for Rem and that made me extremely discouraged to even talk about it.
I can't recommend the OVA enough. It is almost necessary in order to understand who Emilia is and why she is the heroine of the story.

Both are the perfect choice. Each one will find the counterpart with which he most identifies and desires. Subaru loves both, that is clear in the novel, it is inconsequential not to love them both. What will happen in the end is the author's decision, I hope that is well reflected in the dynamics of the characters.

I think, to me the major dealbreaker for Emilia is the fact that she is a child. She does great things, helps people regardless of her own situation, it's wonderful. She is the kind of a person to enter a burning house to save a child. But though their personalities are admirable, the reality is usually very harsh to these people. Very few can afford this naive and reckless benevolence - someone like Reinhardt, or Subaru for different reasons.
People who enter the burning building die before they know what killed them. Emilia needs Subaru as a safety net, even though she doesn't realize it. Having a cat spirit guardian with a fucked up mentality can only take her so far.
Rem vs Emilia controversy is mostly about picking someone you need vs someone who needs you. Sometimes, you want both.
You call her a child for risking her life even at the expense of gaining nothing from it. Thats called being a good person. That reckless behavior and love for her people is a quality none of the other candidates have.

The world makes him struggle for every life he wants to save, but Emilia avoids that struggle thanks to the safety net of her own OP abilities and Subaru's protection. She will not grow like that, unless she takes the training wheels off.

I think the main theme of Re;Zero is “being able to accept one another and one’s self, even when you don’t know or accept everything about another person or one’s self”. That is why the author chose Emilia as Subaru’s love interest to pursue. Emilia doesn’t understand everything Subaru goes through, and Subaru doesn’t understand everything that Emilia goes through. But, he must keep trying to persuade her heart and this conflict pushes him to become a better person. Rem is the exact opposite. She is the perfect partner that will accept Subaru for all of his faults, because Subaru accepted her for all of her own faults. Having Subaru accept Rem’s proposal would’ve been a bad decision for the writer, but Emilia should’ve received a lot more characterization and development to make her as equally of a compelling choice as Rem.

I think the best waifu, in most if not all cases, is the one who makes both people involved the best person they can be. Relationships are meant to build both up, be complimentary and supplementary in the sense that both people complete each other and add to each other. After all, if both of them can't gain something palpable from the relationship, then it's a one-sided, unrealistic relationship that often is formed from dreamlike expectations and a sense of selfish desire rather than a sense of duty to the other.
As a result, I think Rem is better. Even in the video, Rem's case is based heavily on her character changing as a result of Subaru coming into her life, and the same can be said about Subaru. They compliment each other perfectly. At the same time, they supplement each other with their unyielding support and friendship, and this culminates in a realistic, grounded relationship.
Emilia's case was based heavily on the similarities shared between Subaru and Emilia as well as the ideals Subaru has, not the ideals that Emilia has. It's one-sided. They don't seem to compliment each other because they are so similar, so they fail to bring something unique for the other to learn from. They can't help each other grow and become better people without the outside help of people like Rem.
To summarize, Rem helps Subaru grow and Subaru does the same for Rem. It was Rem's efforts that helped Subaru. All Emilia did was be the reward of Subaru's hero's journey. Also, I haven't watched any of season 2 or read any of the source material, so who am I to say?

Rem owns the best chapters of Arches 3 and 6, the best, most exciting moments in the whole history. Her relationship with Subaru is complex, multifaceted and interesting to watch. Yes, Rem is not perfect. She can be too impulsive, which sometimes leads her to unreasonable actions. She also seems to be too carried away in her love. But this is also her advantage. The fact that Rem is not an ideal character makes her more human and closer to Subaru as well. Therefore, I will always choose Rem.
As you say, Subaru's infatuation with Emilia seems to stem in big parts to him imprinting Emilia as The Heroine which is not very "romantic" and she just seems like a run-of-the-mill "kind and helpful" main character. IMO Rem has earned her place, while Emilia has yet to have a moment to shine, at least in season in.

Emilia was failing the trials because she didn't have her memories and kept going under the trials over and over again without any rest so she was destined to fail the trials this whole time regardless of how much she tried, Subaru left without telling her any thing and Puck too, the only one's who cared about her (Puck and Subaru) suddenly abandoned her without telling her a single word, people were insulting her and accusing her of making it snow even tho it was Roswell who did it and that's why she lost it because of all of those reasons combined. So yes Emilia is strong mentally and that's a fact.

The worst part about Rem is, that people who is related to the Toxic Community defend her, Like Serena Yvonne they defend Rem saying that she is best girl than Emilia. They do this in order to take down every fanarts and clips of Emilia like getting rid of my favorite character because they say that she is worst girl. Due to the outcry of the angry Toxic member of the Toxic Community after they found out that Subaru will end up with Emilia, they atacked the author of Re-Zero forcing him to change the ending to Subaru ending of with Rem instead of Emilia, they did this in order to get rid of her and take over the entire internet, by spaming cancerous fanarts of Subaru X Rem. Re-Zero became the next XYZ and the entire anime community is in danger.

Subaru is one of my favourite characters. Through Rem's story I fell in love with his character a lot. I'm more so thinking about the future. As a person who likes slice of life I really want to see Rem and Subaru living together in Emelia's kingdom as two workers of equal standing. Helping each other with simple mundane tasks. I want to see Subaru explain a world Rem has never seen and Subaru do the same. I want to see them go on adventures far away to simply have a picnic because Subaru says he wants to get her the best view or something else he made up out of excitement while Rem is pretty sure Subaru just made it up right then. Tbh I've gotten a liking to Emelia after the village thing happened but I'm also too attached to Rem. I also think I want to see Emelia succeed in becoming Queen and marry someone who will understand Emelia's position more and give her support she needs in a kingdom at peace, I feel like everything between Subaru and Emelia is always at war, maybe I see that because my mind is biased, but I remember while Rem and Subaru were fighting that giant whale beast they could still say silly things and enjoy themselves XD

There's a funny thing my grampa said when he told me to watch this anime. "Rem is a waifu, Emilia is a wife."
A year and a half later, when rewatching this anime for the seventh time, it really put his words into a bee perspective for me.

The reason rem loves subaru is bcz he saved her life even though from rems pov they didn't know each other well and subaru had no reason so save rem. But from subarus pov he actually knew rem pretty well and its natural that he would want to save her.
Now the reason why subaru fell in love with Emelia is actually similar to rems case. Emelia saved subaru, subaru fell for her.
Now rem wants to be there for subaru cuz she loves him since he saved her before, similarly subaru wants to be there for Emelia cuz emelia saved him before.
Now why did Emelia save him in the first place? It was completely out of kindness. Shes a kind soul, she helped someone whom she didn't know and expected nothing in return. Thats why i like Emelia more.
I think Emilia's inability to ignore a crying child when on a time crunch is a flaw, an exploitable weakness and that such lack of prioritization will make it harder for her to get anything done. She is too kind to live, let alone be a ruler. Then again, the three main Royal Candidates are already about as good as they're going to be, while Emilia and Felt have room to grow.
Ok, so rem all the way, she'd perfect, legitimately you could not ask for a better girl, but we all know in the end it's gonna be Emilia, tho I wish he would just get them both xD that way everyone is happy

Personally I think he’s right we see more screen time a lot of it actually with rem we barely get to know Emilia as much as we do Rem actually I found it surprising how she was barely shown and wondered when she would come out but mostly it was Rem showing up. I’ve got nothing against rem I think she’s pretty awesome but most people really are just swayed by emotions and what makes them feel good in the moment. Without knowing Emilia as deeply as we do Rem. We barely know much about her she’s a mystery and most of what we see isn’t the happiest bits. But before a decision being made id still like to know who Emilia is fully it’s just not a fair comparison. If we give the same amount of screen time as rem got what if she’s a nice girl too? Then what now? It’s just not a fair comparison so I can’t say rem is better she is an awesome character and I like her but it’s just not a fair comparison to compare rem to Emilia when we see more of rem and barely anything of Emilia.
