  • In this video, Kirstin Kelly teaches you how to improve your horse's contact and your hands with a great exercise of holding your thumbs together. Having an elastic contact enables the horse to take the contact forward with a soft mouth. Often riders have a weaker hand which fiddles or pulls back and a more consistent, steady hands so it makes sense to use the better hand to train you weaker one.
Together with TeQ clothing, I can bring you a great deal on the TeQ tights that I am seen wearing in this set of videos. The tights are super comfortable and the material on the inside thigh and leg really helps when you're trying to sit to the trot, sit a buck, or trying to stay connected when jumping. Buy the tights and get a belt for only $10.00 NZD.

My pleasure, if it's easy your riding up to your hands, if it's hard your trying to pull them onto the bit. How did you get on?

@@KirstinKellyEquestrian it's amazing how such a small tip can make such a big difference especially when cantering a bit more forward too. Pointed out which hand was dominant and by putting the thumbs together it really helped soften the hands as I activated that hinge from the shoulders and softened my elbows too. Thanks again!

How can you make your horse sit up with out ultimately changing the bit. When I half holt him he throws his head thinking hes getting told off when really I'm just trying to sit him up. P.s I ride him really short because he is a fruit loop. :(

When you don't use the hands at all, the horse becomes more sensitive to the core aids. Try just using your core. Have you watched my two training videos on how to slow down without using your hands and how to ride a half halt.
