Alberta wildfires: Number of active fires rise to 83, with 21 out of control | FULL

- Alberta officials on Saturday said that there were currently 83 active wildfires in Alberta, with 21 of them currently out of control, an increase from Friday's numbers.
Officials with Wildfire Alberta warned on Friday that more challenging conditions were on the way and the wildfire danger in the province is expected to grow as the temperatures rise.
"We are expecting hot and dry conditions in most of the province, which will make the wildfire danger climb. We're likely to see more intense wildfire activity this weekend and into early next week," said Josee St-Onge with Alberta Wildfire.
According to the Emergency Management Agency, there are approximately 16,500 evacuees in Alberta as of Friday.
The agency is also asking residents of communities on evacuation alerts to remain prepared to evacuate and make plans for any pets.
"I urge you to pack important medication and documents and enough food and supplies for a minimum of seven days and people should make plans for their pets," said executive director Colin Blair.

Some people are pissed at the government but 83 fires and 21 out of Control is pretty tuff battle to save and please everyone, if you stay and fight the fire that is your choice but remember there may not be anyone to save you if needed. Totally understand that people want to try and save their homes who wouldnt. What amazes me is how do fires start in the middle of nowhere without lightning?????

Fire chief stated early on, that fires started this early in the season are usually attributed to human negligence and lightning.....but it's 2023, so who knows...considering how wacky our world has become, it might just be within the realm of possibility.🤷♂️
I remember learning that there is a season (about every ten years or maybe 7 years I can't recall) when the forests need to burn for an overly high extended percentage. It's a natural cleaning out of the dry brush and cleansing out the old for the new. This was and is known buy those that are professionals on wild fires and burning. The problem is that now that we are living in the areas that usually would be naturally on fire every ten or 7 years our homes are in danger as are our industries. So these wild fires become very bad for us and dangerous for us. But for the forests and wildlife they are a normal part of the system. Rain will come and deal with it eventually but in the mean time it takes out homes and farms etc.

These fires are less then 2-3 % of the entire forest which is continent wide and a 1000 miles wide. Google map it.

Yes, fires happen naturally. The issue is how many of these fire were not started by lighting or actual naturally occurring sources of ignition.

No we have a year when things got too dry too hot too soon. There was barely any snowfall, it was 30F on April 29. No leaves to even break the heat with a little bit of shade yet. Dry wood dry grass they will spark up on their own.

I think u need to e explore ur seasons better, wet season or spring usually prevents fires. Not sure if u ever used a wood stove before, but try lighting and wet peoce of wood and u'll understand the concern better. Also, check ur geology. They've on a fault line which means extremely hot things come up from underground. So hot, that it has the capability to burn any kind of wet.

I thought the same about Alberta’s lack of sales tax before I lived there…there are other ways that the Alberta government nickels and dimes it’s population compared to other provinces to make up for it. One example is that in BC you register a boat, RV, vehicle, ohv 1 time when you buy it. In Alberta you have to pay to register all of them EVERY year.
BTW, it’s cute that non-natural resource producing provinces think that their taxes pay for everything and they too don’t benefit from the money made on those resources. 😂 If there was no demand Alberta wouldn’t take the oil out of the ground for YOU.
