This video is 4 years old so you might not see this comment, but between this and the AT-ST video I was able to replicate your techniques on a project I was scrapping (kitboshing is the word I think) together. Taking a gummy vitamin bottle and turning it into a worn star wars drop pod went surprisingly well thanks to your videos. I've only painted one other mini before so I'm about as new as they get. Thanks!
Hey Christopher! Thanks for sharing - sounds like a fun project! 😀
Nicely painted and weathered vehicle, I especially liked the fresh blaster impacts and the old trick of the models painters of the reflections on the windows. As usual, an outstanding job. :)
Thanks a lot Mikel! I'm really glad you liked it :)
Pure class, utter perfection. The maestro strikes again! Thanks Sorastro!
Thanks a lot ToRN! I'm pleased you like it :)
The end result you achieved is really fantastic. Perfect IMO.
Thanks buddy! I really appreciate that :)
Your tutorials are spot on amazing. Especially the weathering techniques. Super helpful, I used practically every tutorial you did for my Legion miniatures so far. Thanks, incredible paint jobs!
Thanks so much Sander! I'm glad you're finding the videos useful :)
Wow. Such a perfect result. I can't wait to paint mine now.
Thanks buddy! I’m glad you like it :)
I was really looking forward to this video, and you knocked it out man. I think you just sold me on the game.
Thanks so much Zac! :)
@@Sorastro whats the length of the snowspeeder
I'm a fan of the stuff you do generally, but this is one of the best models I have seen from you. Right up there with the Fire Giant from Blood Rage. Excellent work!
Thanks so much! That means a lot to me :)
Awesome job as always. Love this. The weathering is spot on. Can't say enough about how this looks. WOW!
Thanks a lot! I did push the weathering pretty far with this one :)
Amazing. I keep looking forward to your next video. Keep it up. One of your best yet
Thanks so much Stephen! :)
Amazing job as always! Your T-47 looks incredible. Congrats! :D
Thanks so much Guillermo! I'm glad you like it :)
Great stuff! I really enjoyed the demonstration of how to make the canopy parts look reflective. Good technique to add to the quiver.
Thanks Jon! :D
Yay! A Sorastro’s painting tutorial after an almost horrible day at school!
Doh! It's all OK now :)
Superb video once again! Can't wait to see your work on the snowtroopers, Veers, Leka,...! Keep it up!
Thanks a lot Steve! I'm looking forward to sharing my Veers and getting to work on the Snowtroopers and Leia.. :)
A perfect capture of the Star Wars "used future" aesthetic. Excellent painting tutorial.
Thanks Luddite! Much appreciated :)
This makes me want to watch ESB snow battle scene. Haven't watched that in a long time.
Excellent! Such an awesome scene :)
Brilliant work! I find your videos to a great way to meditate and calm down. Thanks for creating them.
Thanks a lot Brian! I'm happy to hear that :
Absolutely unreal. Been watching for quite a while now; not sure if you're getting better or if just tackling harder things for the series. Either way, still love your work. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks a lot Alexander! I really appreciate that; I'm on my learning journey like everyone else :)
Absolutely fantastic. I though you have been going overboard with the weathering at one point but when you see the finished effect it is quite stunning.
Thanks man! It's a delicate balance to strike for sure, but after the restraint I showed with the AT-ST I really enjoyed cutting loose a bit with this one :)
I love this series!
Thank you Commander! Much appreciated :)
Another amazing job; between the weathering and your drybrush sorcery, the vehicle really came to life. For such a seemingly simple technique, the fresh blaster mark really sells the illusion; it looks like it is really glowing hot. This is one of my all time favorite Star Wars vehicles and, in keeping with pattern, the Fantasy Flight model looks great; I'm really impressed with all the vehicles I've seen so far, from Imperial Assault and onto Legion. I never knew the colored panels extended onto the underside of the speeder, its good to know for when I finally get around to painting my Bandai kit.
Thanks a lot mate! Yes.. I scrutinised the Battle of Hoth during my research and I'm glad I did because I had never noticed the markings on the underside before (not that anyone can really see them, but I do like to be thorough!) :)
Amazing amazing work as always !! Keep up these great videos
Thanks buddy! Really glad you liked it :)
Awesome vid. I am glad I discovered these vids, I have started my first army trying some of the techniques you use. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can't wait for more videos.
Thanks a lot Jack! I'm glad you're finding the videos useful :)
You’re killing me, man. Great work!
Thanks mate! 😀
A real masterpiece! I love weathered and battle damaged metal :)
Thanks a lot Dejan! I'm glad you liked it - it sure was fun to do :)
Awesome build!😯😁👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿
Still the best tutorials on CZcams. Keep it up man! I hope we see some more 40k stuff from you at some point!
Thanks a lot Jeff! Much appreciated :)
So many new techniques to use in painting my mechs.. ! As always awesome video, thanks for keeping up the excellent work!
Thanks a lot Vectre! I'm glad you found the video useful 😀
@@Sorastro I always find myself going back to your previous videos to refresh on certain techniques or paint recipes.. not many other ppl share their recipes so freely
Super Video and a great end result
Thanks so much! :)
Another great video! Found the 'windows' section particularly helpful.
Thanks Robert! I tried a range of ideas out for the windows so I'm glad you like what I came up with :)
Amazing work as always mate, very inspirational :)
Thanks claydog! I really appreciate that :)
Another Amazing job!!!!
Thank you! :)
Congratulation!👏🏻👏🏻
Great work.👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks as always Marcello! :)
great work again. think i'll use the same scheme for my atrts
Thanks Tim! :)
Thanks for the vid. My fav SW ship ever! Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it :)
@@Sorastro No sir, thank you. Looking for your next build.
Just perfect
Thanks a lot Victor! :)
Another great video mate, thanks!
Thanks Greg! I'm glad you liked it :)
💙 Next video: "young rebel soldier presents his parents a renovated airspeeder... fathers reaction priceless"
You're the Bob Ross of model painting. Amazing videos!
Thanks so much Brad! That's praise indeed 😁
Always awesome! - thank you :D
Thanks so much Carl! :)
These tutorials are always so fantastic! I've learned a ton over the years I've watched you. Learning more on these vehicles has been great.
Thank you very much! The Legion vehicles have been so much fun to work on :)
I think your the best painter on you tube for this kinda thing they are always awesome good job :)
That's very kind - thank you! :)
The result really is awesome, as always ! Thank you for your tutorials !
I was wondering if there is any chance that you might do the official painting tutorial for Knights Model's Harry Potter Miniature Game ?
Sorastros the jedi master of the brush!
Lol thanks! May the Force be with you.. :)
I’m now re watching all of your legion painting tutorials because I recently found out a game store near me caries legion
Excellent! Have fun 😀
Great job! Amost tempted to get into Starwars Legion but I have a whole box set of green horde and black plague minis to paint
Thanks! Ha ha - good luck with those zombies :)
I really like what you have done there, it's nice to see more and more techniques moving over from the plastic kit modelers side to wargames and given there own wargame style twist. Nice work! ;-)
Thanks a lot Carabus! I really appreciate that :)
I'm slightly red/green deficient when it comes to color vision, but that orange you mixed for the first speeder... I find it very pleasing to look at. Maybe because it's so bright, but still. I find it satisfying along with the rest of your work!
Thanks so much! I also like that orange :)
Great tutorial, you cover a lot of techniques there
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
FANTASTIC PAINTINg TUTORIAL.
I gotta say it tho - XD using Gw Citadel paints on a non-sanctioned non-GW Model is HERESEY lol
Ha ha - thanks mate! I'm sure GW won't mind the boost in paint sales I imagine my videos have induced over the last few years :D
Thanks for the video. I think I'm going to use this sceme to paint a X-Wing.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful :)
Amazing.
Thank you Carlos! 😀
You.
Are.
Awesome.
Truly. Now I want to buy an other speeder and paint it lighter (My current one is pretty dark blue/Urban)
Thank you! My first Airspeeder was also a little on the dark side which is why I really pushed the brightness on this one :)
I love this painting series. Very skilled painter. Only thing I would add is this: About the 10:30 mark he is free-handing a block to paint in. He is painting the line in a motion away from himself. It is easier to draw (and paint) a straight line towards you rather than away from you. I am no artist and certainly nowhere near as good as this guy, but I have taken enough art classes to know the how to draw or paint a straight line trick. Otherwise, fantastic work once again!
Thanks Greg! Much appreciated (including the tip) :)
superb
Cheers Ged! :)
Amazing
Thanks Jacob! :)
I like before watching.
Ha ha - that's very trusting of you :)
I'm enjoying watching the video and cannot understand why six people have put a thumbs down for it.
Thank you Ian! I really appreciate that :)
Buen trabajo increíble 👏👏👏👏👏🇪🇦
Thank you very much! 😁
Epic music!
Thanks mate! I'm aiming to release the tracks on a new album later this year.. 😀
Another amazing tutorial, may I ask how you decide on the colours to use. Do you try colour schemes out on a vehicle or figure before making the video? I have to use a magnifying glass to paint with do you have any suggestions as to what is the best type to use?
Thanks Jonathan! Yes, I always try colours and techniques out on other models first to arrive at my final approach. Regarding magnifying glasses, I'm afraid I've never owned one so I can't really advise. Sorry! :)
Hi sorastro. Ive been using your epic videos as a guide to my legion minis and so far they look fantastic. I really feel like my painting (which was already pretty good) has hit a new level. Thanks for the vids, but gotta ask are you planning on doing a tutorial on General Veers and other releases? Also would love to see a few more guides for runewars such as the latari and uthuk factions. Keep up the excellent work brother
Hi Kelvin! Thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad that your Legion minis are turning out well :) Yes, I will be producing many more videos for Legion - in fact I finished the Veers video over two weeks ago, but there is an official approval process they have to go through (for licencing reasons) before I can release them, and this can take some time (especially when LFL are busy with the release of a new movie!) So fear not - there will be more coming soon.. :)
Was wondering how you were gonna do your windows, excellent job as always. Cheers
Thank you! I tried a range of approaches for the windows.. I'm glad you like them :)
Great work! I just don't have any Star Wars games and no sci-fi minis so I have really only checked out the last few seconds of all the most recent videos. Like I said great work but feel like this has become a how-to paint Star Wars channel.
Thanks Chris! I have been covering lots of Star Wars lately because Legion is the game I've been waiting for since I was a kid, and I make no apology for that :) (You might be pleased to know that I've finished the next Blood Rage episode however, which is currently on Patreon early access.) :)
Sorastro's Painting that's awesome! After reading my comment I think my comment may have come across a kind of rude and that wasn't my intention. I love Star Wars but it's just not my cup of tea when it comes to painting but that isn't your problem :) I wish you nothing but continued success with you channel!
Thanks mate! I appreciate all of your kind comments :)
Really enjoying this series. Legion is the first game that I'm painting minis for, and this has really helped me. What are you planning to paint next in the series?
Thanks a lot Ben! I’m currently working on the General Veers episode :)
Cool, I was hoping that was the next thing you would cover. I just started my own stormtroopers and was wondering, how do you keep your brushes so pointy and clean.
Great video as always. Enjou watching them and picking up tips all the time.
What is roughly the ratio for the Dark Prussian Blue and Flat Blue?
Thanks Eivind! The ration was roughly 50:50 :)
Quick question. I use Tallarn Flesh which was an older GW paint, but I can't figure out what to mix with it to lighten it without causing "ghosting". I haven't painted minis in over 5 years so my lighter flesh tones are dried up. Any idea what to mix? Also, really cool to see this painted by brush. I'm using my airbrush for the larger vehicles and having great fun. Mini painting has sparked again!
Hi there! Hmm I remember Tallarn Flesh but don't think I have it any more. You could try lightening it with a pale cream colour like Screaming Skull perhaps..? :)
Sorastro's Painting yeah I stocked up on it when they did away with foundation paints. Surprised a gw paint lasted this long, even the open ones! Thanks for getting back to me
great
Thanks zwara! :)
Another great video. Thanks.
One thing stands out though is the top canopy panel and rear canopy frame seem too clean for the rest of the ship.
Thanks! Feel free to make yours as dirty as you like :)
Please don't take that as an insult. Your work is amazing and I am amazed by your color choices and applications
I will propably paint my t 47 in sandspeeder design. Also do you have any tips of how to make good shadow paint/water and how to not make lighting look like whote stripe?
Also great painting, i love your sponge method to make scratches on red stripes
Thanks a lot! I think just thinning your paints appropriately, and gradually lightening each layer of highlight would probably help :)
Realt nice job! Love the details! How would you feel about doing a Star Wars Armada video, doing some of the small fighters? Would be very interesting to see how you solve the really smalll figures :)
Thanks Filip! I don't actually have Armada yet but I may give it a go one day :)
Awesome T-47 rust bucket!!!!!!! ;)
Ha ha - thanks mate :)
Hello. I know this is an old video. Real cool paint job with the speeders. Would be really neat if they actually made correct size at-at model to go with these games. I'm sure it would be expensive, but would be nice to see a paint tutorial for that.
Thanks a lot Richard! Wow yes - a full-sized AT-AT would be incredible :)
Amazing work! Will you be covering some of the more recent Legion release's soon? Would love to see how you paint the Wookie units
Thanks a lot Chris! I'm actually just finishing off the Wookies (and Chewie) now. I'll release the video as soon as I can once it's done.. :)
Sounds awesome, cant wait. I've just got the core set and working through the Stormtroopers using your tips. Thanks for making such detailed vids
Thanks a lot! There's nothing quite like fielding a fully painted set 😀
Great results as usual! Is there any chance you'd ever do guides for the Dark Souls Boardgame minis?
Hi Rhys! I'd love to cover some Dark Souls; I actually have the game and a number of the minis primed and ready, I'm just struggling to find room in my schedule for it at the moment.. :)
Nice work! Have you ever done a Muzzle burn in one of your Painting Guides (or want to do it in a future guide)? I want to paint the end of the T-47 guns being colored by the intense heat of the weapon and have no idea how to do it good :D
Hi derwolvi! Hmm you mean so they're kind of glowing hot? That's a nice idea.. leave it will me and I'll have a go in a future video :)
really nice work!
i want to ask you if we will see zombicide invaders minitaures videos from you in a year? :D
Thanks Heiko! I honestly don't know yet RE Zombicide Invaders :)
Dear Sorastro, Fantastic! You make it look so easy. One question was that a normal bath sponge ripped up to create your chipping effect? Kind Regards Johnny
Hi Johnny! I bought the sponges from a local art shop, (something like this: amzn.to/2Jq8nQI) but you can use any old sponge really, provided you're happy with the fineness of the textures it produces :)
Hey I really like your videos and I learn much from it. l‘m trying to paint the airspeeder and the At-St like in your videos. But I would wish that you comment more on some of the technics you are using. For example for the weathering stage you could describe how thin the paint should be or sometimes the camera could be closer (like when you are applying thypus corrosion to the guns of the airspeeder). Just seeing you do it is cool but it is sometimes difficult to get the color just like you did it. For example like the shading on the back. I tried „liberal“ amounts of nuln oil, and my speeder looks a lot darker than yours. Or the scratches on the At-St...should the black line be thinner than the white part? Also on some other vehicle I would like to see a red engine glow. Thank you for all the hard work you are doing!
Hi Philip! Thank you so much for the kind comment and useful feedback! It's always a bit tricky to judge how much detail to pack into the videos whilst keeping the format reasonably concise, but I truly value your suggestions :D
Sorastro's Painting thank you! Duncan from warhammer tv is very good at summarising such infos in his videos. But you are definitly better at painting. I find it so amazing, how you know what colors to mix to get the exact right tone. Yeah you have to consider so much for making these videos, it is very impressiv!
I've noticed you don't use inks that much, for a quick result, can I apply a base grey, nuln oil and a fortress grey drybrush? thanks :)
Hi Toni! Yes you sure could! I've been avoiding using "blanket" shading on the vehicles just to lesson the amount of highlighting I'd need to apply afterwards, but it's still a perfectly viable option for sure :)
Hey Sorastro, I just bought that new Rising Sun board game and it has a ton of really cool Japanese themed minis and there aren't a lot of painting tutorials for Rising Sun so I thought it would be awesome if you did a Rising Sun Painting Guide, just a suggestion but it'll really help me and a lot of other people out.
Thanks a lot Darion! I'd love to paint some Rising Sun because the minis to look spectacular. My schedule is pretty full at the moment but I'll see what I can do a bit later in the year.. :)
Sorastro's Painting thanks
I do not have the Secret Weapon paints readily available to me. If you don't mind, what might you suggest from the Vallejo line to replace those two?
Hi there! I've done a colour match for the Citadel line which you can find in the video description but haven't matched to Vallejo yet. You can pretty much use any red/orange brown tones you like though, and I think Vallejo also do a rust paint of their own but I haven't tried it yet.. :)
Are you going to make a video for the other legion characters (Veers, Leia, snowtroopers, fleet troopers)
Hi Andrew! Yes - I actually finished the Veers episode over two weeks ago, but the approval process sometimes takes a while.. :)
Seriously, this model could be used in The Empire Strikes Back. Awesome job.
Thanks John! That's high praise indeed - much appreciated :)
I'll probably use masking for the front stripe
Good call! :)
I just received the core set for xmas from my dad and am starting to build everything together. What glue do you use or recommend I keep getting mixed choices. Awesome painting and keep it up!! New subscriber
Thanks a lot Brandon! I think most brands of super glue would be fine, just not plastic glue 🙂
@@Sorastro awesome thanks so much!
No problem! Looks like you and your dad have some good times ahead of you. 🙂
Well that kicked the shit out of my painting job !
Doh! I'm sure that's not true :)
I know what's next in the painting queue!
:D
Как всегда круто!!!
Thank you very much! :)
I see, that you use Rosemary&co brushes. Would you recommend them?
Hi Pepe! Brush choice can be a very personal thing and may depend on your painting style, but I do like the R & Co brushes very much (plus I think they represent excellent value) :)
Nice, I'm definitely "stealing" some of these ideas for weathering the Repulsor Tank from Imperial Assault
Thanks mate! I'm glad you found it useful :)
Sorastro's Painting Don't think there's been a single video where I haven't found at least one small bit that's been useful
I know this is totally off-topic, but do you consider making a painting guide for Rising Sun? The minis are phenomenal, you would really do them justice with your skills. ;)
Thank you! I'd love to do some RS one day; my schedule is just a little full at the moment.. :)
Just curious when are you going to do the paint on general verrs
Hi there! The Veers video is almost finished, so I'm hoping to be able to release it pretty soon :)
Thank you for the help I don’t want to screw up my veers mini sooo I’ll make sure to watch it
Nice base colour you're building up to there. I've been trying this with the exact same paints, and it somehow keeps ending up with a more greenish grey hue...
Thanks Edward! Hmm I do find that the precise tone of the Vallejo paints can vary slightly from batch to batch (frustratingly). You could try mixing in just a tiny amount of pink-ish skin tone to counteract the green tint perhaps... :)
@@Sorastro Hi, thanks for the tip. Never even realised there could be variation in the batch, nice to know it may not be me after all!
Hi Sorastro, would you consider doing in the future the minis of World of Smog Rise of Moloch ? I believe they are worth your time, check them out !
Dear Sorastro, Yet another masterpiece! Just catching up on my admin, as I have been overseas for awhile. Just wondering which superglue you normally use? Kind Regards Johnny
Hi Johnny! Welcome home! Regarding super glue, honestly I don't have a regular "go-to" and haven't really found much of a difference between those that I have used. However I am currently using one by "Gorilla" which has both "Brush & Nozzle" applicator which I really like. :)
Hiya Sorastro, Many thanks, any advice by you is always taken on board . I have also checked out Rosemary & Co brushes (I think I might have to take a second mortgage out) Could you possibly suggest any 'cheaper' alternatives. I'm glad to be home, but Er' Indoors keeps asking me to do something called 'housework' If she reads this please visit me in hospital..LoL (I hope!)
Ha ha - hi Johnny! I'm afraid it's been so many years since I've used any other make of brush I'm afraid I can't really recommend any alternative, except to say that if it's for dry brushing, then the Rosemary and Co Series 768 flat brushes are a lot cheaper that the Series 56 and will still do the job nicely: www.rosemaryandco.com/acrylic-brushes/red-sable-blend-acrylic/flat-brights-sable-mixture?filter_name=%20Series%20768 :)
Once again a big thank you for your assistance. I did buy 2 x brushes from the wet palette (as per your suggestion) I'll try those out first and give you feedback. Kind Regards Johnny
Hey, Man) Just wanted to say hello, hope you do in life as great as in painting)
Ha ha thanks Darth! I’m not rich but I have a beautiful family and a job that I love so I count myself a lucky man :)
And he says he isn't rich)
Nice vid, that speeder has seen some hard times
Ha - thanks! Yes is sure has, but lived to tell the tale.. :)
is this airspeeder the same scale as the bandai 1/48 airspeeder?
Hi Nicola! I don't have the Bandai version so I can't say for sure but I believe they're very close in size :)
You should add how long all of this took you (not putting the vid together but to paint all these) in the description or at the end of the video
Hi! It's actually hard to say how long just the painting takes, because the filming process adds quite a bit of time (re-arranging the camera for the different shots, getting the shots of the paints etc). :)
