    I used to use FCPX exclusively, but the need to do simple text graphics, overlay tracking, noise reduction and other things that were so simple in DR made me start seriously considering a permanent swap. After working on several projects that required not having to slave the secondary clips to the primary timeline track (ie the FCPX way), I switched full time. I’ve been doing that for nearly two years and haven’t really looked back. If I have a really quick project that just needs simple cuts, I do find myself using FCPX at times, but that’s really it. There’s just too much power in DR that is missing elsewhere. And it’s a lot better investment than Premier!

    I own the Studio version but only use it for grading. Even then, only grading that goes beyond what I can do with Final Cut already at my fingertips. I find that the MultiCam Editing in Final Cut is faster with fewer keystrokes. But, here's a scenario I found myself in while editing for a company; multiple audio tracks (one for each speaker) that overlap. People often talk before another speaker is finished. I want to isolate each speaker but there a places where I have speakers overlap for a few seconds. I can see that you can do this in Resolve, but using more keystrokes than what you would need to do in Final Cut.

    FCP was my daily driver for just editing, but I've been increasingly been using Resolve more and more as I've been taking on more hybrid edit/color work. The speed of not having to round trip, as well as Resolve's database system has given a robustness necessary for the types of projects I've been taking on. I still use FCP, but I'm increasingly using Resolve more.

    • @rishigandhi8186
      @rishigandhi8186 Před 2 lety

      I would also like to add, that having fairlight right next to the editing tools changes a lot of things for me, as for certain projects where there is no dedicated audio post artist, I can go in and do a lot of the audio sweetening to a level I just don't have with a stand alone tool like FCP or MC. In addition, while all the toolsets in Resolve are quite deep, I feel the edit tab in particular is actually quite easy and approachable as the first tool to learn in Resolve. I'll admit, there are things I like in the cut page, but for pure speed, FCP kind of has everyone beat.

    @mdvmusic Před 4 měsíci

    Thanks for the excellent video. you really address the important points. But I still have a question. I use multicam edits exclusively for music videos. So far I have only edited music videos on Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro. In practice I really have a lot of takes and therefore a lot of camera angles. for example 40. in final cut pro and also in premiere pro I can turn it into a multicam file without any problems. I can then compare the best camera angles and cut accordingly. everything plays in sync with the music. no problem with proxies. Davinchi resolve seemed to have a limit of 25 camera angles per multicam file. Is there a workaround to cut larger projects? Unfortunately, I didn't find any good example videos on CZcams with large projects. I would be very happy about help.

    I've been using FCP for years, but I am finding it fiddly, and I shy away from overlaying infographics, effects and animations on my videos because it (most likely) means opening a separate clip in Motion. Another fiddly step. Therefore I've been eyeballing DaVinci Resolve lately, and I've bought a few of your tutorials on it, but there's one tutorial I'd love to watch and that's a "From FCP to DaVinci" tutorial that explains all the major differences, such as file management (FCP library, event, etc vs bins, etc, in DaVinci.) Then there's things like the range selection in FCP (for speed changes and audio changes, which AFAIK, require manual adding of keyframes in DaVinci, etc.) Another thing is that I have all my titles, etc set up in Motion for FCP, how would I start with that in DaVinci (I know the theory from an individual title's point of view, but not "all of it")
    I'm sure there's more.
    This would be fantastic for me, because that's one of the final hurdles in my mind.

  • @MightiestBeard

    I am interested in making Resolve my primary NLE (I use Premiere now but am tired of how buggy it is). I have a couple small hangups with Multicam in Resolve that maybe you can help with. First, if I set the Source Viewer to multicam and do some editing it's all good, but if I swap over to another timeline to adjust a clip or anything like that, when I switch back to the main edit timeline the Source Viewer resets to Source and I have to set it back to Multicam. Small annoyance. My second issue is simply that there's a little hiccup every time I switch angles during playback, it adds the cut at the right spot but I always drop a frame or two and there's an audio stutter. The edit is right, just is an annoying little bump. I have a solid PC and it's smooth as butter in Premiere so I feel like I should be good in Resolve but I can't solve it. Thanks to anyone for help if they happen to see this. Great vid.

      I don't agree. It's like anything: once you're used to the tools, you find out how it all slots together. I find moving from Edit to Fusion, for example, much easier than what we had to do in Final Cut Pro (7)/Motion or Premiere/AE. I worked in FCP from V.3 through 7, and finally switched with the FCPX debacle. After a while with Adobe Suite (and testing Lightworks), I discovered Resolve and I've never looked back. Having the world's best (arguably) color-grading tool built in is such a bonus.

      Did you assign the clips the proper metadata (A.B C) before creating the MC clip?

      @@rippleguys I didn't -- but figured it out. Thanks! Now I'm wondering how to sync and edit with 2 cameras, but with 8-9 audio tracks...Any ideas? I can't figure out how to "unpack" the audio tracks after syncing so that they're each on a separte track.

    Are these proxy files? My clips don’t play this smoothly

      They are full resolution ProRes HD clips. If you are using a MPEG codec (H.264 or H.265) they will most likely drop frames on slower computers. If you are using ProRes files they should not drop frames -
