    I swear, those are totally the pieces featured in the opening of Age Of Empires 2
    except the tower is a berserker and not an actual tower.

      It is indeed the same set (or at least inspired by it). They most likely replaced the berserker rook with a tower to make it more recognizable to a modern audience.

      This narrative was composed by staff of Museum nan Eilean in Stornoway (where six of the British Museum chess pieces are currently on display); it is based on traditional Norse sagas and folklore.
