  • For the first time on the channel, we're ripping some Leaf. Since Panini stopped producing hockey cards back around 2015 or 2016, Leaf has become the only real current alternative to Upper Deck. While Leaf still doesn't have the rights to use NHL logos, Leaf has stuck around all this time by doing stuff like Leaf Metal Hockey Legends. The checklist is absolutely loaded with autos from the legends of the game. It also boasts a range of autos of players who are no longer with us. That plus the price was enough to get me to take a dive into Leaf for the first time, and boy was it worth it.
    What 1 of 1 will we pull? How will the rest of the box go? Which box will come out on top? Let's find out!
    All the videos, music and images used in this video belong to their original owners/creators, I have no claim to it. I don't make these videos for money.

    Small mistake I made in the video, the Leaf Exotic Snake autos are numbered /8 or less. I accidentally entered that as /3 or less.

    Unlicensed has definitely grown on me as a collector over the past few years not so much in hockey but as i branch out into other sports. Leaf hockey is still priced at a pretty high price for hockey in my opinion or i just havent found it at a price i feel comfortable at in hockey. but was down in florida at a card shop on vacation earlier this year and they had a leaf baseball box of prospects that came with 20 autos and the price was $100 usd flat i mean sure alot of them wont crack the line ups of major leagues but a few will all really low numbered pretty nice cards and an auto is a auto at the end of the day. I'm not a fan of unlicensed base cards tho just autos. as i give more attention for the price im paying on products some of these products make more sense to me with the hobbys prices sky rocketing seemingly more and more every year.

      Same yeah the unlicensed stuff has started to grow on me, I can't say I've followed too much into other sports for unlicensed stuff but I agree, most of the other unlicensed hockey products from Leaf are still really expensive and I don't really feel good buying that stuff. That baseball box sounds awesome though. Exactly yeah an auto is an auto and yeah I'm glad there aren't base cards in here and that it's just autos. And who knows maybe I'll grab more of this in the near future.

    Pretty sick different looking cards. So this isn't a UD product? I thought UD owed everything to do with hockey cards these days. I just recently started collecting for the first time last month and not quite sure what to dive into. So i started with UD 2023-24 series 2. I like the style of these. I bet it's expensive lol.

      Thanks! Yup this is not a product that was made by Upper Deck, it was made by Leaf. Upper Deck exclusively has the rights to be the official producer of licensed NHL trading cards. Leaf gets around this by not using or showing the NHL Shield or any of the NHL Logos.
      Oh nice, some good entry level products are Upper Deck MVP and Upper Deck O-Pee-Chee. Products from 2020-21 to 2022-23 are definitely a lot cheaper than 2023-24 if money is an issue.
      These are very loud and flashy cards, the price right now is about $144-$150 (Canadian) which is on the lower end for Leaf.

    Leaf provides ALL game used and sticker autos
    With low #d print runs of the gamea best at a comparably reasonable price
    More than half of uds cards are sticker....and not everything is game used.

    • @mirorbreaks8721

      Leaf has to provide this kinda stuff or else they wouldn't be able to survive. I can't imagine how much heat they'd get if they pulled a Panini and threw in a jersey piece from "no particular event" into their cards, they would've been out of business a long time ago.
      It is nice that Leaf does this, a lot of their stuff is still expensive but I think the view on Leaf and their place in the hobby is gonna change as Upper Deck keeps putting out more overpriced 23-24 products, we'll have to wait and see though.

    I just wish I could get past the fact that they ‘photoshop’ the cards. I know it’s because of licensing, but I kinda wish they would go with pictures that doesn’t need to be fixed. Other than that, nice looking cards. Thanks for the break

    • @mirorbreaks8721
      @mirorbreaks8721  Před 2 měsíci

      Exactly yeah, and I was the same for the longest time. They've definitely done those kinds of photos before, but I'd imagine that would look awfully repetitive across a given set. I definitely like the multi-player autos the best because they usually use up-close shots so you basically don't even see the jersey or any logos.
      They are super nice looking cards, I did end up taking the 1/1 out of the toploader and putting it into a one-touch and it's so much better. Thanks!

      @@mirorbreaks8721Couldn't they replace the logos with their own. Just slap the leaf logo over it lol

    • @mirorbreaks8721
      @mirorbreaks8721  Před měsícem

      @@yqmlife1757 haha lol they could do that. I remember back in either 1994 or 1995 for the Be A Player set they got some of the players to wear an NHLPA jersey rather than edit out the logos. I know that's just using a photoshoot jersey but it's something they could do if they really wanted to lol.

    Sticker autos suck.

    • @mirorbreaks8721
      @mirorbreaks8721  Před 2 měsíci

      Sticker autos aren't the best and I know a lot of others share that opinion, while I do 100% prefer hard-signed autos, I think in respect to this specific product, sticker autos are fine.
      Guys like Gordie Howe, Borje Salming, Bobby Hull, Gilbert Perreault and Guy Lafleur are pretty widely available in this set, they have autos in multiple different inserts. That's the main draw of this set (plus the price).
      But yeah I get why not everyone is a fan of sticker autos.
