This is Sweetwater's fault as much as it is Schecter's. If anything, they were the last to touch the guitar so I'd probably say they're the MOST responsible.
This comment needs to be higher. 55 point inspection my ass. The neck was wobbly.
yep! they're always proud about their inspection and making sure it's properly set up before it reaches your hand. double whammy.
To be honest I ordered a guitar from sweet water and idk I think it sucked. I sent it back.
@@mrmike320 I ordered two guitars from them and sent both back. They both had defects like paint chips or cracked wood. Doing that 55 point inspection with a blindfold on 💀💀
Went from 55 point to no point inspection 😂
People blaming schechter, keep in mind that guitar supposedly went through Sweewaters 55-point check. So it was most likely damaged in shipping or Sweetwater lied. Sweetwater sold me a custom shop Charvel as new that had neck pocket crack, stripped vibrato posts, and they FORGOT to put candy in the case…. So I wouldn’t be blaming Schechter at all… and I’m not even a Schechter fan…
I bought an Ibanez through sweetwater and they screwed the truss rod adjustment cover ON TOP of some of the strings, it was fucking ridiculous I feel like that takes genuine effort. When I went back through the pics they sent me before they shipped it I could actually see that it was like that in the pics, though I didnt notice at the time. So weird. That situation put me off of buying guitars through sweetwater as it was my first experience with them.
they forgot the candy??? oh man, that's your FIRST sign something's wrong
This is exactly on point
Sweet water sucks
@@myriad860 Meh, sometimes. All the guitars i've order have come in amazing conditon.
Did I see the "SET UP TO PLAY" sticker on there? Ahahaha
It also had a Sweetwater 55 point inspection sheet under the strings.
That means sweetwater also should have inspected it. I’d hope it didn’t get through them like that as well.
Sweetwater's "55 point inspection" is a fing joke. Every guitar I've bought from them has had issues.
@@bend1499I’ve only heard bad things about sweetwater when it was an international order
Typically, Schecter has some of the best QC for their price range but THIS, this is outrageous. Someone f*cked up bad.
Don’t think that’s a Schecter issue. Wasn’t that a Sweetwater tag on the guitar.
@@popskustom7382 re watched it a few times, I’m not seeing a Sweetwater sticker. Hopefully Xander clears that up. Who we getting mad at?
100% a Sweetwater gallery tape and inspection sheet in the strings.
@@Bat_Dad_116he pulls the sweetwater card out from the strings.
55 point inspection my ass!
3:41 Army Ray slipped out for a second there lol
This is Steve from Schecter. That guitar is fine. You may want to educate yourself on our website before you make inaccurate assumptions. The guitar you have there features our new (c)Whammy-Nek. The neck is put in “Whammy” mode by loosening the neck joint screws by 20 turns. This enables you to use the neck as a whammy bar/tremolo effect by shifting the neck back and forth loosening & tightening the string tension. Most importantly I actually don’t work for Schecter at all. I don’t even play guitar. I’m just thinking about buying one so I can get a girlfriend. Your new CD is hella awesome. You rip, dude. Big time.
Had us in the first half, not gonna lie
@@malettastudios9416 I knew he was BSing when he said Whammy-Nek
Lmao. I knew it was gonna be wild from that intro. And I still need those signature scissors.
First thing I would be doing is taking all of the tension off the strings, and pulling the neck and inspecting the screw holes on it to make sure that no wood got stripped out. If it looks good, I'd just put it back together nice and snugly, and call it a day.
This!
This was obviously damaged in shipping. I have been to both the Schecter factory where they have a whole team that inspects all their guitars, as well as Sweetwater, who also inspects and takes pictures of all the guitars they sell.
No way something like that got passed both inspections unnoticed.
I second this. Used to work as a tech for Sweetwater in 2019 (I was a 4 month intern for the record) but their 55pt inspection is no joke. Def not a Schecter problem. More than likely shipping ir someone got really lazy at SW. but I doubt that. So shipping damage it is
@@ianmcclain2122I know this, it would take a hell of a blow to the neck to do that, there is no sign of a blow to the neck, assuming the bolts were tight it would've had to have been such a blow as to strip the screws out of the wood. He was able to tighten it and didn't say they felt stripped out. The fact it had strings on it you would figure it must have been tight at one point but I don't see this happening from shipping, somebody might have been putting in neck shims to lower the action on the final setup and plain ole got sidetracked or distracted and thought they finished it but obviously didn't and shipped it out.
Also the screw holes would have been stripped out and it would not have been possible to retighten if damaged in shipping!
@@TwoBassed like I said he was able to tighten it back up and didn't say they felt stripped out which would've been obvious.
@@gep2771I agree with this, I don’t see how shipping could result in a loosened neck
Dude! that is crazy I own 7 schecter guitars and have been playing schecter guitars for over15yrs now and have never seen that! definitely a WTF moment for sure!
Bro went full Glenn Fricker mode talking about the neck being loose 😂
Holy smokes... Schecter? Wtf!!? That's brutal! Would you be able to keep us updated on this one? I would be so unbelievably gutted if a guitar arrived in that condition.
You people act like this is new.
@@beefnacos6258 "you people?" What's that meant to mean? Schecter are known for excellent quality control measures, it's not normal to receive a guitar with the neck unbolted.
Sweetwater not schecter
@@andrewesquibel2523 Schecter doesn't send pieces out to retailers disassembled though... but I see your point. It's why in my initial comment I asked to keep us updated, because I can't work out how this could have happened.
Hard to believe the screws would just come loose during shipping. Seems multiple steps have been skipped from quality to sweetwater
Good thing that it was a bolt on neck. If it was a set neck or neck through the damage would probably have been much worse if it was shipping related.
Was that a Sweetwater card on it? If so, how did they miss this? I know some other retailers don't even check the boxes they get, but Sweetwater is supposed to open them up and take pictures and, of course, inspect the guitars before customers get them.
They gave it the old 55 point inspection lol
Honestly, I don’t think their 55 point inspection does anything. I’ve gotten a few duds from them on guitars that “passed” their inspection process. It’s been that way as long as I can remember, nothing new. It’s more of a marketing gimmick than anything. I still buy from Sweetwater because of their customer service if something does go wrong and the fact that I can see the guitars before buying them.
had a salesman send me a cable i canceled like 2 months earlier because it was out of stock. When it became in stock again, even though I said never mind on it, he decided to randomly charge my bank account for it and send it out. @@LordZeromus
@LordZeromus I don't know how, at the very least the pictures where taken of it without it showing. I mean, that string height before he tightened up the neck was crazy. I've bought a number of guitars through them and never had a major issue. A couple of minor easy fix things that most people wouldn't notice sure, but nothing worth sending the instruments back. I did have to send an amp back once, but guitars are more variable in how they look and how much they weigh. Amps either work or they don't, so I don't think they bother inspecting them unless they are what they call demo models.
Because the fifty five point inspection is a marketing gimmick
Now this is content. Good thing you had the screwdriver at an arms reach!
That's CRAZY, my only guitars so far are both Schecters and they have been 9/10 guitars. It's kind of crazy it was that loose. You were even getting ready to torque up on it and it just easily screwed in. I have no idea how that happened.
The string action was further than my pension..
Dude ray this is the type of content we need off the cuff just fun metal ray.
Get in touch with Schecter and give them the QC tag that was on it so they can identify the problem. Good brands find this information very useful. They might have an e-screwdriver set in the wrong torque setting in this specific bench and shipping made the screws loose.
Sweetwater are more to blame than Schecter imo
Damn that's nuts! I can't believe sweetwater didn't catch this before shipping. How did this pass their "Inspection?"
I know man. I feel I want to believe it happened in shipping, but the box was pristine and packed to the max. Such a strange phenomenon.
OMG that action hahahaha! I think I would be in agreement with many others that this is not typical for Schecter guitars, and many for that matter, to roll out the factory like that oofta.
That is crazy! I've seen some guitars damaged in shipping but never seen a neck just left unscrewed before
The opening sounds like me whenever I have to work on someone elses guitar.
The beginning of the video had me cracking up 😂
That should have been caught before shipping for sure. However it looked like it was OK after you tightened the screws. As long as all the neck screws tightened down good, and the action sets up fine. I wouldn't worry about it. If the neck screws were stripped though then that would be a different story. I could fix the stripped screws if they were, but many people couldn't so that would have been a major issue.
Seems like it was inspected by Sweetwater with that card? The neck being like that is on Sweetwater then, not Schecter.
This happened to me once on my Ibanez RG standard after playing it for months out of the box, I couldn't understand why the action suddenly was sky high... until I realized the bolts has just slowly loosened themselves. As long as there's no cracks or damage, it should be ok. But yea, several QC checks along the way didn't do their job properly on that Schecter.
Gotta love that 55 point inspection right?
QC staff being paid the least is a frequently discussed rumor. Through out several big brand names, there are discussions between production staff members on how shitty the QC staff really feel about their pay grade and the same reflects in their work.
I've had 7 schecter all ordered online and never had a single quality issue but I guess somethings do slip through but this is egregious
I've had two schecters in a row of the same model where out of the box, the neck pickup didn't work. The first one got sent back, and the new one they sent had the same issue, so I ended up fixing it myself. It was the contacts on either side of the switch. Just ran some sandpaper through, and that fixed it. You shouldn't have to do stuff like this. Mind you this happened 2023 so idk if its just bad QC or lowered standards.
I'd like to add that I had a perfectly good schecter with actives in it prior that worked fine from a while back and it's a shame, man they make killer looking guitars.
I got a Schecter Omen Extreme 6 and they forgot to sand the frets on the high e side on the entire neck. Low e side was amazingly perfect and high e would cut your hands every fret.
Can't believe sweetwater sent it like that also. Wonder if it got damaged in shipping.
He said his friend sent it, I don't think we have any proof Sweetwater sent it like this. I never have issues from them personally.
I just ordered the same guitar and had the same exact issue with mine. Had to send it back. Seems there is some serious manufacturing or design flaw in this. Might be something to do with the wenge neck where screws just come out of the pockets due to stress during shipping..
I've been seeing a lot of Schecter QC problems lately... wobbly necks, even tho they're supposed to have carbon fiber rods, a lot of crooked bridges and on guitars over $1k. bad wiring... one I seen was a keith merrow mkiii which had all 3 of these isuues... Schecter's manufacturers needs to step up their game big time.
Love schecter, my only remaining one is great, but my last one 1350$ had so many paint, finish and glue issues.
I would have taken those strings off before screwing those in.. dont want neck tension if they were out of line or stripped.. could have been dropped and stripped.. but you seem to get them to hold.. strange.. still would have removed strings first and then had a look at the pocket.. guessing it was dropped and stripped potentially.. ??
I had a Jackson King V with a similar problem. The bolt on neck got loose over time, I fixed it with 2 or 3 little drops of glue (so it got a little bit more stability, but not that much so you couldn't remove it) and screwing the neck back on. Sold the guitar a couple of years a go as I needed money for studio time.
I just got the exact same model from ProAudio Star, and when I pulled it out of the box there was literally a hole drilled through the body of the guitar next to the selector switch. It looked like somebody accidentally drilled a hole in the wrong spot to install the switch. I have absolutely no idea how that made it out of the factory.
If this is the first time watching this channel, this was sad but entertaining. That was an atmosphere change like no other. I hope the guitar is in good order and maybe Schecter will send another so you can do a better unboxing. See what happens when people try to be nice.
Reminds me of the last Omen I bought. Great guitar once set up, but the setup included removing the neck and sanding down bubbles in the finish that were so thick that they shimmed the neck.
I had the same problem I actually went through two different check to guitars the first one that had bad volume pot the second one had a crack neck but the screws on there the neck bolts were loose
I always thought the 36 pt inspection was bs. I’ve had several of these types of small issues.
Just for anyone else out there, if you find yourself in this position and want to tighten those neck screws, make sure to LOOSEN THE STRINGS before doing so. Just avoids the possibility of causing worse problems. You can get lucky and pull it off, but you're almost guaranteed to cause some sort of small damage that will get worse over time. Thats my PSA for the day. Never mess with the neck mount screws without loosening the strings first, and I mean floppy loose
I'm completely baffled by this, the box looks like it's in mint condition, pretty much eliminating an impact that would have resulted in the neck being unscrewed
The video gave me PTSD from the UPS Silverburst 😨
i still havent recovered from that hahah
I love Schecter guitars but I also think something went wrong with the Aaron Marshall signature run. I first ordered the AM7 from guitar center and it arrived with a huge 1 inch long and nearly as deep crack on the body where it bolts into the neck. Turned around and tried ordering it from Sweetwater and got one with a crooked bridge. Ending up giving up on it after sending that one back.
I received a guitar this week from Sweetwater and it was very under protected. It was a miracle it wasn’t broke. It had the smallest pieces of styrofoam in that massive box to try and protect it. They be skimping lately
U swearing up a storm while screwing the neck in was so funny 😂
It couldn’t have happened during shipping because the screw holes would have been stripped out and could not have been fully tightened!
Ouch that sucks dude, Id send it back. I never had problems with my Schecters
I have 6 Schecters and have zero complaints with any of them but I guess every company has at least 1 dude that's gotta get high before work rather than after.
Sorry that happened to you but don't hold it against the company. I'm sure they will fix that situation real quick. My opinion is they make the absolute best
guitars for the money hands down. Something tells me there are 2 people responsible for this. The one that did it and the one that let it get shipped.
I got an EVH Iconic combo last week and it had a bolt sticking out on the side of the cab. I was able to screw it back in, so it wasn't stripped. Companies must be cutting down on drill use lol
I just bought a C-1 FR-S SLS Elite a few months ago. There was some overspray on the binding which was a bummer, but other than that it's the sickest guitar I've ever played, ESPECIALLY for what you get for the money.
Were the neck plate screws stripped? If they tighten properly and theres no damage to the neck heel or pocket, its not a big deal.
People just need to start more closely analyzing the content that is presented to them.
Ive been hearing horror stories with those AM signatures. As well as the new Keith Merrow's. Schecter has been having a bad streak of QC issues these past few months, its quite sad.
Neck screws won't loosen, especially that much, in shipping. That's just strange. Nice for slide work, though.
I love my Schecters. Damn it. Schecter and so much for the Sweetwater 55 point inspection.
I honestly don’t get what the big deal is😂 just tighten it, problem solved…. I dont get why throw such a fit😂 idk i am a schecter fanboy afterall
Sweetwater does not inspect the products that they sell. They prioritize staff diversity over competence. Few years ago I spent $3,800 on a ESP USA Eclipse that had fast food grease smeared all over it when I opened the case up. Shit stunk like In-N-Out
I ordered new schecter km7 Mk3 and it came with a neck twisted, so much, that I couldn't set the action below 4mm, because it was buzzing all over the frets...
This is why I try to impress upon people that Sweetwater is a joke. I’ve bought two guitars from them. One was an Ibanez with a floating Edge tremolo which was recessed way too far into the body to the point that anything played above the 11th fret would fret out, and the other was an American Vintage II strat which had a misaligned neck. Luckily both were fixable but this exact thing is why you should support local stores and techs. The “55 Point Inspection” is all smoke and mirrors.
That's some crazy video intro. 😆
Did you get it from sweetwater? I work in the distribution center. I can put a word in
I've been lucky, the most egregious thing I ever received was a left handed BC Rich Warlock when I ordered a right handed. But rather than sending it back I made it work, I just inverted the strings and play it right handed and it actually plays great that way!
The guitar took a hit on its way to you the threads in the wood gave
Dang dude! Hope it’s fixable so we can see a review on it. I’ve been eyeing that to see how it may compare to the Ibanez AZ.
This is wild. I've been buying $500 and under guitars for the past few years, and they absolutely SMOKE higher end guitars on everything except looks most of the time. I do finish my own fret ends on all my guitars and set them up, so that helps a lot, but for a guitar well over $1000, I expect it to be not just playable, but nice to play.
I just assumed it had to be a lower end schecter. As soon as you showed the neck and headstock I'm like noooo...on an Aaron Marshall? Is someone intentionally sabotaging this model specifically?
If your mate is ok with it, take it apart and check the neck just in case the screws have stripped. Otherwise send it back, I know its a lesser issue ive seen on schecters but had a mates pickups keep 'adjusting' themselves, turns out the hole was too large or some dingus decided to over tighten the screws, bit of pluggin later and all was fixed.
This however isnt a good sign from the off, best case is the tech forgot to tighten but in being loose coulda damaged something else, worst case is the drill has drifted and oversized the hole slightly. A fall or knock to cause that kinda movement would also crack the body.
Feel proper bad for your mate with that. Schecter well n truly screwed the pooch on that one.
As always great vid though sir :)
So its loose at the neck pocket , it would be a lot worse if the neck pocket was cracked or the actual neck was cracked . Nice guutar 😮
I just got a Schecter omen elite from sweetwater and same thing. The neck was basically falling off.
Theres no way that was missed in the sweetwater 55 point inspection. Right? I was going to order a Schecter guitar from them, I might be re thinking that now. Yeah man, box that up and ship it back. Totally unacceptable for any distributor to send out a guitar in that condition much less one that claims to have a 55 point inspection. HFS!
55 point inspection huh?
Definitely more of an issue with Sweetwater than Schecter. The talk up their 55 point inspection so much to the point of being annoying. The definitely dropped the ball on this one.
Not for anything, but if it’s from sweetwater (I see the placecard) this wouldn’t be schecters fault. It falls on the retailer at that point.
Regardless, tighten the neck up and if it holds, play away. It sucks, but it’s not worth the hassle of shipping it back.
Is that the Sweetwater QC inspection card in the strings when you unpacked it? Honestly it could be Sweetwater that blew it as well.
I'm curious why he wouldn't call out Sweetwater - do they pay too much money to guitar CZcams to even conceive of criticizing?
@@spoonerluv something fishy to be sure
I would check the instructions. That very well may have been loosened up for shipping which I think is a great idea. Way less chance of headstock damage with no tension. If it was an accident , it should be standard practice on all bolt ones.
Saying this is Schecter’s fault is clearly ignorant. This came from Sweetwater which means their techs look over it, and if they notice an issue, it goes to their “advanced” techs who make adjustments. I can almost 100% guarantee that they did this and forgot to screw it back in. I’ve gotten to the point where I will buy from almost anyone other than Sweetwater because their inspections are such a load of crap.
Everyone is quick to blame Schecter or Sweetwater...It's a bolt-on neck. I don't know where you live, I'm assuming that guitar has been in planes and trucks for shipping. Along with that, various dramatically changing temperatures. The amount of vibration and temperature changes alone could have caused the screws to loosen. This has happened to me. I'm in Louisiana, had to send my EBMM JP6 to Michigan for an ext warranty repair for the Piezo system. There were a few things that happened from the climate differences alone. Adding vibration to thay equation didn't help.
All I'm saying Ray, take that into consideration. Keep up the good work.
Life could be worse. The sun will rise tomorrow.....still, that is quick kick in the giggle berries. Let us know how this gets sorted out.
I dont think this is a Schecter or a Sweetwater problem, I have shipped plenty guitars in my life and have seen some weird stuff happen in shipping. I would not be keeping this guitar and would be sending it back but I dont think this is Either companies fault.
Sweetwater fucked up too if they inspected that, and this still got through.
Had a shecter shipped to me where the padaukstripe was a padauk crack. However I’m feeling like buying guitars overall price ranges has. Become a minefield
I’ve heard SO many bad things about the qc issues on that guitar and the 7 string. Apparently the Indonesian Schecters have a lot of growing to do
At least you got the screws only shechter I ever bought had none and destroyed the pocket, sent it back and got my money back
Man I just go in 2024 a Schecter 7 string apocalypse explorer style. And has a structural neck damage 😢 I had it for 1 day :(
This is the second major QC issue I’ve seen with an Aaron Marshall signature guitar. The first one had dead frets all over the place. Smh schecter, they need to replace their whole QC department.
The pink scissors!!!!
That hurt to watch, bro. You made the right calls across the board though. This is a risk we all face now.
I would still have that person send it back just in case the screws ripped some of the wood of the neck out .
Yeah for sure I feel like it was loose, got even more loose in shipping and then yeah like you said probably damaged the joint
I don’t get what’s up with their QC for his models recently (Aaron Marshall/Intervals). My schecter syn is flawless and they normally have incredible quality control but I’ve seen so many unboxing’s of Aaron’s signature that have gone horrible (which is sad because it’s a stunning guitar).
I’ve had 7 or 8 Schecters, and ALL of them had QC issues. This is crazy.
for that to happen from both schecter and sweetwater, damn was that a blue monday guitar? I know my blue monday was hell this year.
Must have been "Bring Your Bong To Work Day", down at the ol' guitar factory.
That is just obscene. I wonder whose hands the guitar passed through, before it got to you. I find it a little hard to believe that Schecter would have let that get past QC.
Overall i love Sweetwater but their 55 point inspection is just garbage. I dont trust that anymore than i trust getting a guitar from Guitar Center.
Yoo ray, what you think about the Birds new coordinator hires ?? Hopefully Aj and Jalen get back on the same page 🙏
