    As a local, hunter is more busy than bellayre because a) it’s closer to nyc b) it has the biggest name recognition (it’s been this way since before the vail purchase) c) it has the biggest vertical drop in the area d) it has the best diamonds around

  • @EndlesslyNikkiSaid
    @EndlesslyNikkiSaid Před 3 lety +9

    The crowding is also probably due to bus trips from NYC. Hunter is one of the mountains the buses all go to as a day trip. I assume the one 30 mins down the road you're talking about is Belleayre? For some reason the NYC buses don't go to that mountain. But yeah, I grew up going to Belleayre and when I went to Hunter for the first time last year I wasn't too impressed for all the hype it gets.

    • @rolansereny9922
      @rolansereny9922 Před 3 lety

      Ya lol, a pass that includes a handful of hills. A $450 rip off. The $650 Epic Local includes Whistler/Blackcomb, Breckenridge, Vail, Stowe, Okemo, not tiny NY and PA hills.

      @@rolansereny9922 since when is the highest vertical drop in the east considered a tiny hill? Plus I live close to gore and whiteface and I don’t have to wait 50 hours to get on a lift at vail.

    • @rolansereny9922
      @rolansereny9922 Před 3 lety

      @@danielmaloney1050 just making a point, which is that you can’t compare the mountains out west to east coast resorts. For example the highest in Vermont is Killington at under 5k feet. In CO and Utah mountain elevation is wayyyy higher. Quality of snow is wayyyy better. The frequency of snow is far more often. The runs are longer. The resorts have features you don’t find out East such as cornices, massive bowls, above tree line terrain, insane coulairs and gully’s and drops. Impressive tree skiing and also amazing Apres Ski. You really need to respect resorts like Vail, Breck, Snowbird, Park City, etc. The mountains you are speaking of are small in comparison. And if people are smart they hit the slopes Monday through Friday, not on weekends, and then guess what? No lines. And, it’s not as if there aren’t long lines on weekends out East. I grew up in CT, spent 15 years skiing Vermont mountains. Snowboarding out West is on an entirely different level. Far more challenging. Far more exciting. Simply better by any metric.

    Pumped to see you on the east coast, but a few comments... You missed the glades at Belleayre (the best part!), and Hunter is always crowded (nothing to do with Vail). People paid good money and drove from hours away and they didn’t give a hoot.

    Seriously recommend coming out to Maine. Take a 3 day trip and hit up Sunday river, Sugarloaf, and Saddleback. Like 3 of the top 5 largest east coast resorts. Sunday river is rated as the 5th best east coast park. And Sunday river has 8 peaks. Saddleback is large and has no lines( best trees) Also gets the most snow. Sugarloaf has only above tree line skiing, great parks, lines aren’t bad, it has CAT skiing, and has the best glades( basically a whole peak of just cliffs, pow, and sick trees.

      @@parker5323 yeah it was great but the slides were closed. The rest of the terrain is really good. Excelsior is awesome so is skyward. Sugarloaf looks great cuz the side country. I’m 14 and also counting down the days until I get a license. Then I can ski every day

      @parker5323 Před 3 lety

      @@coastersncreations1888 I will have my license next year so I might drop basketball and just snowboard multiple times a week at SR and sugarloaf. The side country is greats at sugarloaf. Next year I’m doing CAT skiing with my friends for my birthday! Sucks that the slides weren’t open but I’ve heard white face is sick.

    You are 100% right. My local mountain Mt. Snow which was also bought over by vail has been horrible. The lift lines are insane on the weekends and holidays. At the time there a reservation system in place because of COVID and the crowds are still insane. Which makes me wonder what this place would be without the reservations? wait time on the lines take up to 30 min and 40 min. Vail has just given up on Carinthia the terrain park. They started building the half-pipe and just gave up so there a half built pipe. They don’t even build the big jumps on inferno like they normally do.
    I have just had a horrible experience with Vail. Anyone else have the same experience?

    Hunter had the best local marketing long before vail, also long lines. Gary on the radio shooting hunters praises in nyc was a common thing back in the FM days. Bellayre had gone through dire times in the past (state owned mtn) so it might have a backlog of mediocre visits keeping people away.
