I have been working in machine learning for about 2 yrs since then i have to regularly update ourselves in this field. Every day many research papers are published and somewhere being implemented. To keep up with this pace what i can only recommend is to learn daily for about 2-4hrs minimum if you can extend it go for it. This biggest disadvantaged of this fast pace is beginners will be facing very hard time in caching things up.
