  • This is a video of the RJ Corman and CSX derby trains. It starts off in Lexington, Kentucky and follows the two trains on the Old Road Subdivision on their way to Louisville. We catch each train a few times.

    Hat's off to CSX for paying homage to their C&O, B&O roots. This event kinda kicks off a new season of NKY Railfan, at least in my mind.

      It's always great seeing these trains in person and at track speed.
      I don't know if they upped the track speed or I'm getting slower, but I was hopeful to get a few more catches.

    That poor K5LA, unfortunately it seems that all of the SD70 series with exception of the Standard Cab Spartans overblow the horns which cause them to foul like that one did. Great video!

    At 24.01, the track looks so weird with what looks like a dent/divot in track on left side by CSX no trespassing sign. Looks like a 4-foot section that was welded over, not know just looks so wrong. Love videos, so keep up the good work. Sure miss living next to tracks as did all my young life. Getting to know a lot of engineers and allowed to run and engine at 8yrs in the factory next to where lived was my highlight of being a kid.

    • @nkyrailfan
      @nkyrailfan  Před rokem

      I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed it, Brian.
      I saw that rail too.
      I couldn't figure out what it was either.
      I figured it may just be two different weights of track being joined and the lighter rail is shorter than the heavier track behind it and that's where the divot comes from.
      That sounds like you had a lot of great experiences living next to the rails. Those stick with you for a lifetime.

    RJ Corman died to young. Cancer sucks, he built an empire with hard work, ambition and good policies that kept his employees very loyal to him. I hope they continue in the name of the man himself, his legacy. the owner of a big corporation that actually does the work himself, owns a crap load of equipment and know how to operate every piece of it. Helluva man right there. The real deal.

    • @derbycityrailproductions2602
      @derbycityrailproductions2602 Před rokem +1

      It was originally the first half of the L&N EK main, which ran all the way from Louisville to Hazard. The rest of the EK splits off at Patio Yard in Winchester, and continues south to Hazard. That portion does not receive regular traffic in between Typo and Patio.

    @NKY Railfan CSX2 & CSX1 are both Cadrail F40PHR-2 (R is for rebuild) CSX3 & CSX 9999 are still standard EMD F40PH-2. It is a wander also to see what will happen to the 2 former Pan Am EMD FP9's that CSX has in Waycross currently.

      I what all that rebuild included for #1 & 2.
      I'm hopeful they keep the former Pan Ams around, but they'll probably end up on a tourist railroad or something.
      I'd love to see them repainted into a heritage scheme of some sort and used on excursions, but with the current F-40s I guess there's not much need for that.
